Christine MacLellan

Christine MacLellan has always felt the need to create. She grew up in Rhode Island as the oldest of four children, and entered many art, photography, and dance competitions throughout the first 17 years of her life. When it came to choosing what she would study in college, Christine chose the practical path, but never lost sight of her true path in the fine arts. She met her husband in college and got married. Then, after graduation, his job took them to Japan. It was there that the couple had their first son, and the experience of the Japanese culture and her new family gave Christine a renewed passion to paint and draw. In 1987, Christine and her family moved to Durham, North Carolina, where she worked as a therapist while having two more boys. Christine describes having three boys as an amazing adventure that she continuously enjoys. As the children grew, so did the moments Chrisitne could spend on art. In 1996 she spent a lot of time painting, exhibiting, selling and teaching art. Then she decided to open Rushingwater Studios, offering workshops and classes for adults and children, as well as fine art and commissioned work. The studio still flourishes to this day, and Christine now feels she is back on her true path. As an artist, Christine MacLellan strives to convey the emotion, impact, and response she feels from a particular subject. To translate that into her artwork, she uses strong values, rich tones, compositional balance, and a variety of different mediums. Christine often combines mediums to achieve strong value and color balance in her paintings. She prefers to work from life as much as possible, fine-tuning her work once she is back in the studio.
