Matboard For Framing
Matboard sits just below the glazing in the framing package and on top of the artwork or photograph itself. Mats help keep your artwork safe by separating the glass from the art or whatever it is being framed. It features a cutout, or mat window opening, to display the artwork underneath it. The cutout is often rectangular but sometimes circular or other shapes. Specialty Art & Framing Materials and with the right color and style, mat boards are the perfect way to elevate your framed art or photos. Jerry's offers mat boards in sizes to fit all works of art and frames! Shop and save on high quality matboard for framing at Jerry’s Artarama.
What is Matboard used for? Matboard, also referred to as a mat, is a heavy paper-based material used in the picture framing process. This cardboard-like material sits between a frame and your photography or artwork to give it a complete finished look.
How Do You Use a Matboard? How to Mount Your Art with Matboards - Never tape on the front of the art work, use a T-Hinge. Only tape the top of the art, allow the art work to float and flex. Use plastic gloves to prevent spreading oils and dirt to the art work when handling is not waterproof, but it may be somewhat water-resistant. To make your acrylic paintings waterproof, you must apply a sealant.
What are Museum Matboard Made Of?
Museum matboards are made of 100% cotton. Cotton, unlike wood, contains no lignin at all. Combined with archival framing methods, your artwork will be preserved for hundreds of years. This is the option museums and collectors choose when framing photographs and artwork. See our selection of: Frames for Art
