Pastels are sometimes mistaken for crayons, but they are far from it. These highly pigmented sticks are easily blended and can offer dramatic effects to any work of art. You can use them just as you would a crayon, but be careful not to overuse them since they are very soft, and bright. The best way to use the pastel is to apply them to a palette and blend the desired colors on there before transferring them to your canvas.
