Mediums modify the working properties of oil color from the tube – from a fluid consistency for expressive mark-making to a stiff paste for creating thick, crisp marks. Painting mediums also broaden the visual qualities of our colors – from increasing the transparency of paint layers to creating a range of surface qualities, from high gloss to matte. Gamblin’s family of Galkyd painting mediums and Cold Wax Medium are formulated with Gamsol. We recommend only Gamsol for thinning these materials. Alkali Refined Linseed Oil - Processed from flax seeds. This linseed is the purest and lightest industrially produced variety. Galkyd Painting Medium Lite No.2 - This low viscosity alkyd resin painting medium is a good replacement for traditional damar/ linseed oil/ turpentine combination mediums. We recommend using a natural oil-based soap and warm water afterward to complete the brush cleaning, moisturize the brush hairs and help preserve them. Ventilation: All essential oils/solvents should be used appropriately and with ventilation. Skin contact: As with all essential oils, you should always avoid skin contact, especially if you have skin issues. Skin contact for some people will not cause any problems, but because of the high concentration please be aware and take precautions when using Spike Oil or any other solvents. Allergies: Spike Lavender, in rare cases, can be considered an allergen, as are many essential oils like Tea Tree Oil, etc. So all products containing Spike (the solvent, mediums, and varnishes) see warnings regarding safety and clear directions for usage.
