Made from a mixture of linseed oil, turpentine oil, and white spirit, it contains no resin or dryers. It reduces gloss and ensures that brush strokes remain visible, but does not affect the drying time. Retouching Varnish - Useful for reviving sunken (dull) areas on the painting while in process, bringing everything up to an even sheen. Can be used over drier paint to help bond new fresh painting layers. Dries within hours and is made with a ketone resin base. Used most popularly as a temporary varnish while the painting continues to oxidize, offering protection from dust and dirt until a final varnish can be applied. Mastic Picture Varnish - Hard Varnish that often turns slightly milky. Gives a high gloss, but will yellow slightly later. Made from pure mastic resin dissolved in white spirit. Must not be applied before painting is thoroughly dry- a minimum of 12 months (longer depending on paint film thickness). Dammar Picture Varnish - Use as a final varnish for a lovely gloss finish. Produces an even, high gloss, yellows slightly later. Made from pure dammar resin dissolved in white spirit. Must not be applied before painting is thoroughly dry- a minimum of 12 months (longer depending on paint film thickness). See More

Since 1664, Old Holland has been manufacturing the most professional quality pigments, painting oils, and varnishes for artists like Vermeer and the Dutch Masters. With oils pressed by a windmill, they still manufacture drying oils, stand oils, and varnishes to the highest standard of quality in the most traditional methods feasible. Key Features:* Bleached Linseed Oil, Refined Poppy Oil* Stand Oil, Cold Pressed Linseed Oil* Master quality drying oils* Oils to create custom mediums Perfect For:* Glazing and thinning oils* Creating custom painting mediums* Increasing fluidity, makes it possible to remove the brushstroke* Increases the gloss, lengthens the drying time Cold Pressed Linseed Oil - Cold pressed linseed oil from ground Flax Seeds, which are pressed by Old Holland in their tradition of using a windmill. Enhances the fluidity of paint and enables brush strokes to be removed. Enhances gloss but lengthens the drying time, dries to a flexible, durable paint film. Used as an ingredient in custom painting mediums. Can be thinned with turpentine or white spirit. Bleached Linseed Oil - Cold pressed linseed oil which has been bleached to lighten the oil color, making it yellow less than traditional linseed oil, but dries slower, as well. Enhances the fluidity of paint and enables brushstrokes to be removed. Enhances gloss of paint film. Can be thinned with turpentine or white spirit. Stand Oil - Boiled polymerized linseed oil, thick to a honey-like consistency. A popular additive in painting mediums, especially for glazing mediums. Yellows less than linseed oil as has already begun the oxidation process. Dries more slowly than regular linseed oil, to a flexible and durable paint film. Refined Poppy Oil - Obtained from the first pressing of poppy seeds. Maintains many of the qualities of linseed oil, but yellows less when mixed with light colors and dries much more slowly. Use conservatively as Poppy Oil paint film dries more brittle than linseed oil. See More

Williamsburg Handmade Safflower Oil PaintsSave Up to30%Off list…Features:* Handmade Safflower Oil Colors* Longer dry times than linseed colors* Non-yellowing white & transparent colors* Safflower oil line of 13 colors* Perfect For:* Professional Oil Painters* Discerning students & amateurs* Artists concerned about yellowing* Enthusiasts of handmade oil paints Long Lasting Brilliance and Clarity in a Handmade Safflower Oil Paint - Reduces Yellowing! Going back to the earliest traditions of oil painting, Williamsburg offers 13 whites, blues, and other delicate transparent colors made with a far less yellowing safflower binder. Artists will find these invaluable for holding onto maximum clarity and brightness in the upper layers of their paintings. These colors are not recommended for underpainting or foundational layers within a painting, as safflower oil binder takes longer to dry and produces a slightly weaker film. Milled with the highest quality, expeller-pressed Safflower Oil, the line features Porcelain White as the only color of the line not offered in their Linseed-based oils. Porcelain White is a less brittle, semi-transparent alternative to Zinc White. As with all of Williamsburg’s products, their Safflower Oil Colors are painstakingly made by hand. They are available from Jerry’s in 37ml and 150ml tubes. Gamblin Artists' Oil Painting MediumsSave Up to40%Off list…general oil painting. Gamsol is also an excellent studio and brush cleaner. Odorless Mineral Spirits -Gamsol is the safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise. Primary Uses for Gamsol - Thinning oil colors, Modifying painting… True to historic working properties. Safer. More Permanent. Gamblin Oil Painting mediums offer a great deal more than simply extending oil colors. Mediums modify the working properties of oil color from the tube – from a fluid consistency for expressive mark making to a stiff paste for creating thick, crisp marks. Painting mediums also broaden the visual qualities of our colors – from increasing the transparency of paint layers, to creating a range of surface qualities, from high gloss to matte. Gamblin’s family of Galkyd painting mediums and Cold Wax Medium are formulated with Gamsol. We recommend only Gamsol for thinning these materials. Alkali Refined Linseed Oil - Processed from flax seeds. This linseed is the purest and lightest industrially produced variety. Cold Pressed Linseed Oil - Made from the first pressing of flax seeds without heat or chemicals of any kind. Cold Wax Medium - Made from natural white unbleached beeswax. Mix directly into colors. Cold Wax creates an ultra-thick, matte impasto. For greater shine and flexibility mix with Galkyd medium. "G-Gel" - Made from alkyd resin, Galkyd Gel is a colorless oil color additive that accelerates the drying rate of oil colors and enables artists to create thick transparent paintings with a moderate sheen. Galkyd Painting Medium - Alkyd based resin painting medium that thins oil paints and maintains a strong flexible paint film. Galkyd speeds the drying rate and is excellent for glazing providing an enamel like finish. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Painting Medium Lite No.2 - This low viscosity alkyd resin painting medium is a good replacement for traditional damar/ linseed oil/ turpentine combination mediums. Galkyd Lite dries within about 3 hours to a subdued gloss, and will maintain your brush strokes. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Slow Drying Medium - Especially formulated to thin oil colors and give painters extended working time. To use mix equal portions of medium with oil colors to paint wet for at least a day. Since this product should not be diluted you may want to purchase the larger size. Gamsol - Quality solvent and medium and for general oil painting. Gamsol is also an excellent studio and brush cleaner. Odorless Mineral Spirits -Gamsol is the safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise. Primary Uses for Gamsol - Thinning oil colors, Modifying painting mediums, Studio clean up.Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Gamvar - Conservation quality varnish for oil, acrylic and alkyd paintings. This resin varnish may be removed with a mild solvent and contains a UV stabilizer. Developed in association with the National Gallery of Art. Package makes enough varnish to cover 80 sq ft. Once varnish is applied surface will have a uniform gloss apperance. Neo-Megilp - When mixed into oil colors Neo-Megilp makes them richer and deeper and finished paintings have a luminous glow! Neo-Megilp will not darken or crack over time. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Oil Painting Ground - For strong, bright foundations of oil paintings. Requires only 2 coats. Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide and barium sulfate. Stiffer than traditional gesso. PVA Size - Use as a barrier size between linen or cotton canvas instead of rabbit skin glue. Remains flexible and won't yellow, shrink or swell. Poppy Oil - Poppy Oil's slow drying time may be useful for painters using "wet into wet" techniques. Adding 10% by volume poppy oil slows down the drying time of Gamblin Galkyd Painting Mediums. Rabbit Skin Glue - Gamblin's Rabbit Skin Glue is the traditional size for fabric support on panels. It seals porous fabric and isolates it from ground or oil paints. Stretching the canvas is easy, because the size shrinks as it dries. Safflower Oil- Gamblin's Safflower Oil is a pale, slow-drying oil. Safflower oil increases flow of oil colors and slows dry time. Use sparingly or mix with an equal amount of Gamsol to create a traditional slow-drying, low-viscosity painting medium. Solvent-Free Gel Medium - This unique, non-toxic blend of safflower oil and alkyd resin gives colors more flow and transparency, yet holds brushstrokes well. It has a moderately fast drying rate, increases gloss, and supports the broadest range of painting techniques with the least compromise across color, dry time, texture and mark-making. Contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Solvent-Free Fluid Medium- Gamblin's Solvent-Free Fluid Mediumgives oil colors more flow and transparency, It has a moderately fast drying rate that increases gloss. Made from safflower oil and alkyd resin, this medium is non-toxic and contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Stand Oil - Vacuum bodied heavy oil which can be used in painting and glazing mediums. Dries to an enamel like finish. Traditional Gesso - Gamblin's Traditional Gesso is a dry mixture of rabbit skin glue, gypsum, marble dust, and titanium dioxide. Paintings on gesso are more matte because of the high absorbency of traditional gesso. Wax Pastilles - Small beads of naturally white unbleached beeswax.* See More

Based on over 175 years of experience, Charvin has created high-quality oil paint at an extremely reasonable price point. Charvin Extra Fine Professional Oil Paints use a combination of the finest in traditional and modern pigments, bound with a blend of linseed and non-yellowing poppy oils, for a smooth, creamy consistency and vibrant color. Charvin Maison de Haute Couleur ("House of High Color") has been meticulously creating fine artists' oil colors, serving artists like Cezanne, Bonnard, and Ambrogiani. Using only the highest-grade pigments that are triple-milled to the finest particle size, Charvin Extra Fine Oil Colors span a naturally progressing color range from the subtlest shades to brilliant hues. The main binding ingredient in Charvin Extra Fine oils is poppy oil, which dries slower than linseed oil (but without its tendency to yellow over time), and provides a rich creaminess to the paint. Permanent and light-fast, Charvin Extra Fine Oils are designed to accurately reflect the hues of nature, making them ideal for Plein air painting. The smooth and creamy texture lends itself perfectly to Alla prima painting, yet the high pigment concentration also allows the paint to be thinned down to the most subtle and luminous glazes (as with any Poppy Oil-based paint, remember to follow the fat over-lean method of painting). Largest color range in the world! The Charvin Extra Fine palette is available in 20ml, 60ml, or 150ml tubes. From the palettes of the masters to your own paint box: bring the experience of centuries and the brilliance of the Riviera to your own paintings with Charvin Extra Fine Oil Colors! Charvin Maison de Haute Couleur ("House of High Color") has been meticulously creating fine artists' oil colors for over 175 years, serving artists like Cezanne, Bonnard, and Ambrogiani. Permanent and lightfast, Charvin Extra Fine Oils are designed to accurately reflect the hues of nature, making them ideal for plein aire painting. The smooth and creamy texture lends itself perfectly to alla prima painting, yet the high pigment concentration also allows the paint to be thinned down to the most subtle and luminous glazes (as with any Poppy Oil based paint, remember to follow the fat over lean method of painting). Now you can try luxurious Charvin Extra Fine Oil Colors in these convenient and lavish sets! During the manufacturing process, great care is taken to avoid overworking the pigment. The amount of time required for the milling process varies for each color – anywhere from six hours to three days. The amount of oil required for each pigment varies because each pigment absorbs at a different rate. Richeson uses only pure, artist-grade, dry pigments. The finest grade of alkali-refined linseed oil is used to make non-yellowing colors. This type of oil is well-known for its excellent color stability. “Straw" in color, the oil has a minimal effect on pigment colorization and will not darken with age. Certain colors, such as whites, flesh colors, ice blue, and brilliant yellow light, use safflower oil. With these sensitive pigments that yellow easily, safflower oil produces a much better non-yellowing color. Where appropriate, we use a blend of linseed and safflower oil, producing the best possible finished product. Click on the item number to view the contents of each set. See More

Only dilute with turpentine or Grumtine as petroleum-based solvents, and odorless thinners are not compatible with this product. Damar Varnish: A final varnish for oil painting that imparts a high gloss finish. Processed with pure gum damar, Damar Varnish protects oil paintings from dirt and scuffing. Japan Drier: A solid alkyd resin-based liquid drier for artists' oil colors. Japan Drier is used primarily for oil gilding. It is an alkali based drier that may cause yellowing or darkening of colors over time. Odorless Thinner: is a clear, organic solvent for thinning oil colors, cleaning brushes, and painting accessories. Oil Painting Medium No. 1: Use when a matte finish is desired, especially on absorbent gesso grounds. Made from poppy seed oil, copaiba, balsam, and solvent. Oil Painting Medium No. 2: For use with oils to retard drying time. It contains poppy seed oil, mastic resin, alkyd resin, and grumtine. Oil Painting Medium No. 3: Accelerates drying time. It contains copaiba, balsam, stand oil, mastic resin, alkyd resin, cobalt, and manganese driers. Pale Drying Oil: Accelerates drying time of oil colors. Consists of linseed oil and manganese drier. Poppy Seed Oil: An excellent quality, slow drying, purified oil that retards drying time. It provides superior color retention and resistance to yellowing. PreTested Linseed Oil: Linseed oil has several uses in oil painting. It can be used as a paint binder ingredient when mixing colors from powdered pigments, in oil painting medium recipes, and added directly to oil paints to make colors glossy and fluid. This oil is made from the finest quality purified alkali-refined linseed oil. Retouch Varnish: For brightening uneven areas of oil paintings. An excellent varnish for protecting pictures until the final varnishing. Stand Oil: A flexible, very heavy-bodied purified oil for use in preparing mediums—excellent resistance to yellowing. Sun-Thickened Linseed Oil: Sun-thickened linseed oil is heavier in body and can be appplied directly to paint or used in glaze mediums, clear varnishes and emulsions. It is an extremely flexible medium derived from purified oil and can be pre-diluted with turpentine, Grumtine or Pre-tested odorless thinner. The linseed oil lends an enamel-like quality to oil color. See More

This operation is conducted 3 or 4 times-each time reducing the size of particles-allowing us to fill the tube immediately to preserve all the qualities of the paint.
