Can I mix casein with other mediums? Yes you can! Use casein over watercolor or gouache or as an underpainting for acrylic, pastel or oils. The reason is that universal primed surfaces are semi-absorbent. Gesso is absorbent even if it is plate smooth. Granted, it is not highly absorbent, but the fact remains that some oil will get into the primer and flatten the image. This linen canvas has a fine weave and texture and is created with one coat of natural glue sealer and four coats of oil priming. The Italian priming method was developed over five centuries. The difference is the reliability of the material and the consistency of the finished product.
