The canvas is stretched onto the back of genuine pine stretcher bars leaving a crisp neat edge. Standard weight ¾" × 1½" stretcher bars. Is linen or cotton canvas better? Linen is strong and durable, and remains the preferred surface for many artists. Linen is more expensive than cotton and retains its natural oils, which helps to preserve the fiber's flexibility and stops the canvas from becoming brittle.
