LUCID-Art The LUCY Drawing Tool Flexible Camera Lucida is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from not as easy as it looks It's hard to get everything in the right position to see the image on your work surface. and if it's bumped even the slightest bit you have to re-align. and my eye got tired squinting shut.. I will use this for certain things, and I also realize I will get better at using this: finding the ideal light, position, etc. I will give this time and practice. not going in the cabinet yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lucy I have been considering purchasing this product for some time and I am very glad I finally did!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lucy works great, but quality& design are lacking I purchased the original Kickstarter version of the lucinda, which was cool. Then the makers created the Lucy which was larger—making it easier to see the image on the page. It does everything it is supposed to and the larger image is wonderful for landscapes as well as portraits. The only drawbacks are: 1.) the price 2.) the wait for delivery 3.) the clamp seems like it is oversized and clunky 4.) the mirror didn't come with a protective film and it was slightly scratched when it arrived. 5.) this is silly, but the design of the instruction booklet/brochure was cheap looking (I'm an art director, so no one else would care. :-)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rather rickety The basic functionality is there as promised. The flexible arm is solid and seems long lasting. The business end of the equipment is a plastic head with some mirrors in it. There are two directions you can mount the head on the arm, depending on how you want to aim it and how you want to look through it (standing up or sitting down.) I prefer sitting, and when mounted this way the head was quite wobbly. You don’t want any wobbles as it messes up your sketching. I tried wedging something in to stabilize it but had limited success. I can use it, just need to be really careful not to bump the head at all. For the price I paid it seems like the head could’ve been made with something other than cheap plastic, something that fit better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lucy Draing Tool I am just beginning to work with it. Its a little awkward, but its worth the time.It has been awhile since I've drawn and this is helping me gain perspective. It is also helping me regain my confidence.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very useful but difficult to enlarge image on painting surface So far my Camera Lucida has proven to be very useful. My main gripe is I seldom seem to be able to get the image to a size that’ll fill my painting surface - but I’m still working on it :) Less important a problem (for now) is even with the glass lens added to “lighten” an image & thus see it better, it’s not much better. Having a good overhead light or really nice window light from outside helps tremendously. I’m still glad though I don’t have to “plug in” the lens to make it work. Thus a 4 vs a 5 star for now. Very glad I have it (smiles).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right The Lucy was just as described. The filters for harsh light are perfect. This was a great hit with the artists at my office as I showed off my husband's present. Many hadn't heard of it before and were fascinated to see it work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This product seemed very well made. I got one for Christmas and was very excited. However after trying it for a few days it just never worked well for me. I couldn't get the line and the pencil to match up well. It could be because I where glasses.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lucy Needs to have magnification to be excellent product. I wanted to use this for larger paintings and drawings.

I project my landscape photos onto a 43-inch television screen. Could I use this to transfer the image to an 11"x14" or 8"x10" canvas?

Asked by: Garvo
Yes, that should hypothetically work. The LUCY Drawing Tool uses mirror refraction to create a sort of holograph image that is projected onto your paper or canvas. You could point the Lucy viewfinder at your tv and have that image reflected down in the viewfinder at your canvas or board. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Can you draw from  photo on this? Also is this the best on that projects the LARGEST image for large canvases

Asked by: Karool
Thank you for contacting us. The LUCY Drawing Tool is designed to help you draw proportionally when looking at a person or a still life image. The Lucy is not designed to work with photographs. The Image reflection size for this item can go up to 19 x 27" or anything smaller If you would like to draw from a photograph I would suggest a projector like the kopykake https://www.jerrysartarama.com/kopykake-300xk-projector Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Does this include the photo option? If not can I order one with this option?

Asked by: Dolo
No, the Photo Projector accessory is not included in this package. The Photo Projector is an accessory for the LUCY that we currently do not sell. The Photo Projector allows you to enlarge photos, pictures or small objects using your LUCY up to a 3x magnification. That’s blowing up a 4in x 6in photo to 12in x 18in (10.2cm x 15.2cm to 30.5cm x 45.7cm). Again this accessory is currently not sold on our website. Item #V27332 Total weight is 1.8 pounds 2 Optical Lenses included. The LUCY flex neck arm is 2 feet long by 10mm thick and made from strong lightweight steel with a black rubber coating. The clamp is made from extruded aluminum with free-spinning rubber covered grip to keep your table or easel protected.

I give paint parties and have to sketch 13 canvases a class. Now I trace my original and use tracing paper on a blank canvas. Will this allow me to John st put the camera on my canvas and look thru the viewfinder and sketch unto the 12 blank canvases one

Asked by: Kayg
Yes, this device would help you eliminate the tracing paper from the transfer step. You will be able to see the image in the viewfinder and draw it directly onto each students canvas. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
