Artfix Belgian L64C Oil Primed Linen Roll, 85" x 5 ydsSave Up to63%Off listWhite Combine the exceptional archival nature of French Linen with the excellence of the ArtFix’s priming! For over 50 years the Narozni family has crafted premium artists' canvases in Provence, France, still hand produced and primed. Today, they have passed this knowledge to Chassis France, the French specialist manufacturing canvas and frames for over 60 years. The close attention to detail is what makes ArtFix a premium surface for the educated and discerning artist who chooses the very finest canvases for painting. In the world of flexible fabric painting substrates, linen has proven itself for generations as being the fiber that has long stood the test of time. Much stronger and more durable than cotton due to a longer natural thread fiber structure and strength without issues of shrinking and sagging, it can be woven in a thinner, tighter weave that weighs much less with much greater strength. Due to the nature of the fiber, the weave cannot be woven into a completely precise, machined-look texture like cotton, which creates a unique painting surface many artists covet. Long revered for their fine linens with their incredible surface priming, ArtFix combines time-honored European manufacturing methods of priming with modern chemistry. All linens (even unprimed) are double sized for protection against acids in oil paints, which allows uniform breathing of the linen under the painting to reduce paint film stress once the work is completed. Primed up to 4 layers (depending on the roll style), each layer is applied by hand and sanded. This effort of labor prevents peeling, flaking, and cracking of the primer, and makes for the most bond with fresh paint. This time-consuming process produces an unbelievable primed surface that painters become devotees to! Select from pre-sized raw, universal, and oil primed conservator’s grade linen rolls, and indulge in the ArtFix experience. Can’t decide? Try cut pieces of different styles to learn which is your favorite! Canvas Style Notes: "C" Styles - Lead-style Oil Primed: ArtFix’s specially formulated oil priming gives the traditional qualities of lead priming, without its toxicity. the unique absorbency allows oil paints to bite into the surface, increasing adhesion and depth of color. Colors glow from within when glazed on the surface. “C" Style rolls are highly recommended for all oils and alkyd paintings. "U" Styles - Universal Primed: ArtFix’s “U" style’s carefully formulated acrylic universal priming emulates many characteristics of oil-based primers, but maintains the durability and elasticity of acrylic priming. Unlike glossy acrylic primers, the surface is more matte and a bit more absorbent to promote exceptional adhesion to a variety of media. Excellent for works in oils, acrylics, and even drawing media (oil stick, pastels, charcoal, graphite), due to the absorbent surface. When mounted to a stiff surface, even brittle media like egg tempera and caseins work beautifully on the universal primed surface and smooth polyester texture. "G" Styles - Absorbent Ground: ArtFix’s “G" style priming is a single layer of an absorbent grey ground primer. Absorbent ground linen can be used to work with oils and acrylics where wash and staining effects are desired, as they will absorb into the ground. This style primer also works well with liquid acrylics, oil pastels, and other media that has absorbent needs to create proper adhesion. Unprimed: Pre-sized, ArtFix unprimed rolls are ready to accept whatever form of custom priming you desire, from clear or colored gessoes, oil priming, pastel primer, etc. Please see tech notes on each individual line item canvas for information on canvas type, weight, surface texture, media, priming information, and best uses for each canvas style to find what roll best suits your artistic techniques and needs. Key Features: * Conservation grade French Linen * hand-primed by skilled artisans * Universal, Oil, Absorbent Ground Primers * Pre-Sized Raw Linen options Perfect For: * Oil and Acrylic Painters * Professional and discerning Artists * Conservation Specialists * Devotees to ArtFix’s Priming Formulas See More

Michael Harding Medium Non-Absorbent Acrylic Primer White 500mlSave Up to25%Off listWhite Tired of dull flat oil paints? You need a non-absorbent ground! Regular acrylic gesso is notorious for leeching oil from oil paints, and absorbent acrylic gesso makes oil paints look dull, flat, and muted. Unlike those acrylic gesso's Michael Harding's primer is non-absorbent and preserves the luster of oil paint. Michael's acrylic primer does not absorb oil; instead, the paint sits on top of the surface. The primer is made with non-toxic, non-absorbing acrylic resin; that's why it produces such a strong, flexible ground. You can apply Michael Harding's Non-Absorbent Acrylic Primer to linen, cotton canvas, wood, and MDF. Key Features: * Non-absorbent acrylic primer * Formulated to not absorb or dull oil paints * Creates a strong bond with paint * Prevents paint from delaminating * Lightfast and will not fade over time * Thick, creamy consistency * Smooth, even-toothed finish Perfect For: * Oil and acrylic painters * A uniform painting surface * Beginner and professional artists * Preparing canvas, wood, or MDF for paint * Everyday studio use Instructions: The primer is best used in 2 coats; You may dilute the first coat with water (no more than 1 part water to 3 parts primer). This first coat will be touch dry within a couple of hours, and then you can apply the second coat. You should not apply the primer over Rabbit Skin Glue or unstable supports. See More

Richeson Casein Artist Colors Titanium White 37 mlSave Up to43%Off listWhite From rich opaques of oil to thin watercolor washes - One of the most durable mediums known to man Casein (kay'seen) is a quick-drying, aqueous medium using a milk-based binding agent, and is one of the most durable mediums known to man. Nine thousand year old casein cave paintings have been discovered in Asia, and later, the medium was used by Byzantine, Roman and Renaissance artists including the Old Masters. Richeson Casein is a versatile, professional, water-based medium known for its velvety finish! Richeson Casein Colors are fast-drying, reworkable water-soluble paints. Caseins are great for underpainting and work with oils! Key Features:* Milk protein-based paints* Dries to a natural matte finish* Apply in any manner from impasto to watercolor* Casein can be used on interior walls, metal, wood, laminates, metal, glass or ceramics* Archival: Yes. Properly done and with a protective varnish * Good choice for dry and light, wet media sketching* Perfect medium to use for underpainting* Dries quickly* From rich opaques of oil to thin watercolor washes Perfect For:* Suitable for a variety of surfaces* Great for illustration work* Casein can be used on canvas, although only in very thin application* All-purpose paper in a sketching format* You can paint on 140lb. watercolor paper if the painting will be properly framed shortly after completion* You can apply casein "juicy" like watercolors, impasto like oils, or anything in between "Casein is a water-based paint medium with working properties that resemble gouache, cel vinyl—and, in some respects, oil. I've used all of those latter paints quite a bit, but casein has qualities all its own. It can be used transparently, but it has great opacity when you need it, something often lacking in acrylic. It's one of the oldest paint mediums, dating all the way back to the Egyptians – JAMES GURNEY" What is Casein? Casein (kay'seen) is a quick-drying, aqueous medium using a milk-based binding agent, and is one of the most durable mediums known to man. Nine thousand year old casein cave paintings have been discovered in Asia. Later, the medium was used by Byzantine, Roman and Renaissance artists, including the Old Masters. Known for their versatility and array of capabilities, casein paints can be used to create a variety of effects from the rich opaques of oil to thin watercolor washes. Because casein has an exceptional integrity of color and always dries to a perfect matte finish, it is unexcelled for art reproduction. The velvety matte finish can also be buffed to a satin sheen or varnished to produce a resemblance to oils. Over time, casein pigments become resistant to moisture and as history has proven, the medium has a durability and permanence which has easily stood the test of time. Because it dries quickly, it is possible to lay down a glaze and move onto the next stage within a few hours instead of waiting for days, or even months, as with oils. Can I mix casein with other mediums? Yes you can! Use casein over watercolor or gouache or as an underpainting for acrylic, pastel or oils. If using casein under oils, apply a barrier layer of Damar varnish over the casein before the oil paint. Casein can also be used under oils as an excellent underpainting medium. See More

R&F Pigment Stick 100ml - Neutral WhiteSave Up to20%Off listWhite Handmade oil paints in a convenient drawing stick form! R&F Pigment Sticks are oil paints manufactured with enough wax for the paint to be molded into stick form. Pigment Sticks allow the artist to draw or paint directly onto a surface without brushes, palettes, paint tubes or solvents. Blending only traditional materials: finely milled pigments, natural wax (beeswax & plant wax), and alkali refine linseed oil, R&F Pigment Sticks have none of the additives, extenders, and substitutes that traditional tube oils contain. While the use of these adulterations can save a lot of work and reduce the cost of materials, they lower the quality of the paint. Consequently the formulas are complex and manufacturing is labor intensive, and thus handmade in small batches where they are carefully milled and molded. The result is a professional quality oil Pigment Stick with a buttery, lipstick-like soft consistency that glides onto the painting surface. Paint Sticks can be thinned with traditional solvents, mixed with or used under or over traditional oils, or worked with a palette knife to a softer consistency to allow brushing or knifing onto a surface. Curing to a durable film like standard oils, Pigment Sticks can also be used with Encaustic paints for a variety of effects. Blending sticks are offered in two types, and are colorless sticks that can be worked into a Pigment Stick color to increase transparency, or blend colors together on the painting. Like with traditional oils, R&F Pigment Sticks should be used on primed surfaces that are oil or acrylic gesso primed, to protect the surface from the natural acid in linseed oil. What is the difference between R&F Pigment Sticks and Oil Pastels? Although both are made with pigments, waxes, and oils, they are completely different! Oil pastels typically contain a much higher wax content than an oil stick or bar, and are manufactured with a non-drying oil such as mineral oil or castor oil. Works done in Pigment Stick will oxidize (dry) over time like traditional oil paints, whereas oil pastels will always remain tacky and never dry, thus needing the protection of glass to protect the finished work. Explore the versatility and loosely gestural qualities this medium has to offer, with professional quality Pigment Sticks from R&F! Key Features: * Made solely of pigment, pure alkali refined linseed oil, and purified plant and bees waxes * Lipstick-like, soft creamy consistency * Contains no additives, extenders, or substitutes like tube oils * 2 types of Blending sticks for colorless blending * Perfect For: * Use with Traditional Oils and Encaustic Paints * Gestural drawing with oils in stick form * Immediacy of paint without the need for brushes or tools * Works on any surface primed for traditional oils * Thinning with solvents and oil mediums See More
