Retouching Varnish - Useful for reviving sunken (dull) areas on the painting while in process, bringing everything up to an even sheen. Can be used over drier paint to help bond new fresh painting layers. Dries within hours and is made with a ketone resin base. Used most popularly as a temporary varnish while the painting continues to oxidize, offering protection from dust and dirt until a final varnish can be applied. Mastic Picture Varnish - Hard Varnish that often turns slightly milky. Gives a high gloss, but will yellow slightly later. Made from pure mastic resin dissolved in white spirit. Must not be applied before painting is thoroughly dry- a minimum of 12 months (longer depending on paint film thickness). Dammar Picture Varnish - Use as a final varnish for a lovely gloss finish. Alkyd Medium enhances transparency and clarity of the paint. The color appears rich and intense. Cobalt Drier: The recommended drier for fine arts oil paintings. Add to oil painting medium in drops as opposed to adding directly to oil paint. Cobalt Drier is a powerful additive for oil paints and should be used sparingly. Test medium before applying it to an oil painting. Overuse may cause cracking of paint film when drying. Copal Painting Medium: has a resinous consistency perfect for glazing and wet-on-wet techniques. Copal painting medium is an oil paint additive that speeds drying time. Only dilute with turpentine or Grumtine as petroleum-based solvents, and odorless thinners are not compatible with this product. Japan Drier: A solid alkyd resin-based liquid drier for artists' oil colors. Japan Drier is used primarily for oil gilding.
