Grumbacher painting mediums guarantee that paint attributes are not compromised but enhanced. These mediums thicken or thin without harming the color's adhesive, binding, or film-forming qualities. Myriad effects such as increased flow and open time or rapid drying of color are all possible. Grumbacher has selected oils, resins, and solvents to guard against yellowing and cracking, and the ingredients have proven themselves over many generations of use. Key Features: * Accelerate or slow drying time * Increases gloss & translucency * Outstanding working properties * Made in the USA * Perfect For: * Traditional or alkyd oil paints * Enhancing paint characteristics * Dry transparent or translucent * Maintaining consistency * Preserving gloss Alkyd Painting Medium: Speeds drying time and gives a nice painterly consistency to alkyd and oil colors. Alkyd Medium enhances transparency and clarity of the paint. The color appears rich and intense. Cobalt Drier: The recommended drier for fine arts oil paintings. Add to oil painting medium in drops as opposed to adding directly to oil paint. Cobalt Drier is a powerful additive for oil paints and should be used sparingly. Test medium before applying it to an oil painting. Overuse may cause cracking of paint film when drying. Copal Painting Medium: has a resinous consistency perfect for glazing and wet-on-wet techniques. Copal painting medium is an oil paint additive that speeds drying time. This medium increases paint flow and imparts a high gloss and hardness when dried. Copal painting medium may cause yellowing or darkening of colors over long periods. Only dilute with turpentine or Grumtine as petroleum-based solvents, and odorless thinners are not compatible with this product. Damar Varnish: A final varnish for oil painting that imparts a high gloss finish. Processed with pure gum damar, Damar Varnish protects oil paintings from dirt and scuffing. Japan Drier: A solid alkyd resin-based liquid drier for artists' oil colors. Japan Drier is used primarily for oil gilding. It is an alkali based drier that may cause yellowing or darkening of colors over time. Odorless Thinner: is a clear, organic solvent for thinning oil colors, cleaning brushes, and painting accessories. Oil Painting Medium No. 1: Use when a matte finish is desired, especially on absorbent gesso grounds. Made from poppy seed oil, copaiba, balsam, and solvent. Oil Painting Medium No. 2: For use with oils to retard drying time. It contains poppy seed oil, mastic resin, alkyd resin, and grumtine. Oil Painting Medium No. 3: Accelerates drying time. It contains copaiba, balsam, stand oil, mastic resin, alkyd resin, cobalt, and manganese driers. Pale Drying Oil: Accelerates drying time of oil colors. Consists of linseed oil and manganese drier. Poppy Seed Oil: An excellent quality, slow drying, purified oil that retards drying time. It provides superior color retention and resistance to yellowing. PreTested Linseed Oil: Linseed oil has several uses in oil painting. It can be used as a paint binder ingredient when mixing colors from powdered pigments, in oil painting medium recipes, and added directly to oil paints to make colors glossy and fluid. This oil is made from the finest quality purified alkali-refined linseed oil. Retouch Varnish: For brightening uneven areas of oil paintings. An excellent varnish for protecting pictures until the final varnishing. Stand Oil: A flexible, very heavy-bodied purified oil for use in preparing mediums—excellent resistance to yellowing. Sun-Thickened Linseed Oil: Sun-thickened linseed oil is heavier in body and can be appplied directly to paint or used in glaze mediums, clear varnishes and emulsions. It is an extremely flexible medium derived from purified oil and can be pre-diluted with turpentine, Grumtine or Pre-tested odorless thinner. The linseed oil lends an enamel-like quality to oil color. See More

Gamblin PVA Sizing 33.8oz, Artists' Oil Painting MediumSave Up to40%Off listWhite True to historic working properties. Safer. More Permanent. Gamblin Oil Painting mediums offer a great deal more than simply extending oil colors. Mediums modify the working properties of oil color from the tube – from a fluid consistency for expressive mark making to a stiff paste for creating thick, crisp marks. Painting mediums also broaden the visual qualities of our colors – from increasing the transparency of paint layers, to creating a range of surface qualities, from high gloss to matte. Gamblin’s family of Galkyd painting mediums and Cold Wax Medium are formulated with Gamsol. We recommend only Gamsol for thinning these materials. Alkali Refined Linseed Oil - Processed from flax seeds. This linseed is the purest and lightest industrially produced variety. Cold Pressed Linseed Oil - Made from the first pressing of flax seeds without heat or chemicals of any kind. Cold Wax Medium - Made from natural white unbleached beeswax. Mix directly into colors. Cold Wax creates an ultra-thick, matte impasto. For greater shine and flexibility mix with Galkyd medium. "G-Gel" - Made from alkyd resin, Galkyd Gel is a colorless oil color additive that accelerates the drying rate of oil colors and enables artists to create thick transparent paintings with a moderate sheen. Galkyd Painting Medium - Alkyd based resin painting medium that thins oil paints and maintains a strong flexible paint film. Galkyd speeds the drying rate and is excellent for glazing providing an enamel like finish. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Painting Medium Lite No.2 - This low viscosity alkyd resin painting medium is a good replacement for traditional damar/ linseed oil/ turpentine combination mediums. Galkyd Lite dries within about 3 hours to a subdued gloss, and will maintain your brush strokes. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Slow Drying Medium - Especially formulated to thin oil colors and give painters extended working time. To use mix equal portions of medium with oil colors to paint wet for at least a day. Since this product should not be diluted you may want to purchase the larger size. Gamsol - Quality solvent and medium and for general oil painting. Gamsol is also an excellent studio and brush cleaner. Odorless Mineral Spirits -Gamsol is the safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise. Primary Uses for Gamsol - Thinning oil colors, Modifying painting mediums, Studio clean up.Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Gamvar - Conservation quality varnish for oil, acrylic and alkyd paintings. This resin varnish may be removed with a mild solvent and contains a UV stabilizer. Developed in association with the National Gallery of Art. Package makes enough varnish to cover 80 sq ft. Once varnish is applied surface will have a uniform gloss apperance. Neo-Megilp - When mixed into oil colors Neo-Megilp makes them richer and deeper and finished paintings have a luminous glow! Neo-Megilp will not darken or crack over time. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Oil Painting Ground - For strong, bright foundations of oil paintings. Requires only 2 coats. Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide and barium sulfate. Stiffer than traditional gesso. PVA Size - Use as a barrier size between linen or cotton canvas instead of rabbit skin glue. Remains flexible and won't yellow, shrink or swell. Poppy Oil - Poppy Oil's slow drying time may be useful for painters using "wet into wet" techniques. Adding 10% by volume poppy oil slows down the drying time of Gamblin Galkyd Painting Mediums. Rabbit Skin Glue - Gamblin's Rabbit Skin Glue is the traditional size for fabric support on panels. It seals porous fabric and isolates it from ground or oil paints. Stretching the canvas is easy, because the size shrinks as it dries. Safflower Oil- Gamblin's Safflower Oil is a pale, slow-drying oil. Safflower oil increases flow of oil colors and slows dry time. Use sparingly or mix with an equal amount of Gamsol to create a traditional slow-drying, low-viscosity painting medium. Solvent-Free Gel Medium - This unique, non-toxic blend of safflower oil and alkyd resin gives colors more flow and transparency, yet holds brushstrokes well. It has a moderately fast drying rate, increases gloss, and supports the broadest range of painting techniques with the least compromise across color, dry time, texture and mark-making. Contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Solvent-Free Fluid Medium- Gamblin's Solvent-Free Fluid Mediumgives oil colors more flow and transparency, It has a moderately fast drying rate that increases gloss. Made from safflower oil and alkyd resin, this medium is non-toxic and contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Stand Oil - Vacuum bodied heavy oil which can be used in painting and glazing mediums. Dries to an enamel like finish. Traditional Gesso - Gamblin's Traditional Gesso is a dry mixture of rabbit skin glue, gypsum, marble dust, and titanium dioxide. Paintings on gesso are more matte because of the high absorbency of traditional gesso. Wax Pastilles - Small beads of naturally white unbleached beeswax.* See More

Painter's Color Diary® Review "Over the decades, I have continued to make tests of a diverse and ever-growing collection of oil paints, taking note of how they respond to the addition of white paint to analyze tinting strength or adding a glaze medium to note how the pigments react transparently. Sometimes I will test one color, such as Raw Sienna, from different paint manufacturers to determine which version will be best for my needs. Before using The Painter's Color Diary®, I did these tests on my painting or palette and wiped them away. With this wonderful tool, I now keep a record and note each color and company. For me, The Painter's Color Diary® is the perfect color tool for artists working in oils. Printed on high-quality canvas paper and protected by vellum sleeves, this pad allows for the testing and recording of colors with no bleed-through. I highly recommend the Painter's Color Diary®, not only for students but for professional artists. My color struggle now will be to decide whether to keep the pages in the book or post them on the studio wall!" John Wellington - Painter and teacher See More

PVA Size is made from PVA that has a neutral pH and does not yellow. It also retains its flexibility and does not emit harmful volatiles. See More

Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground - Titanium White, 16ozSave Up to40%Off listWhite Paint with watercolors on any surface! You can use watercolors on any surface with Daniel Smith's Watercolor Ground! After applying the Ground you can paint with watercolors on wood, plaster, metal, plastic, glass, and fabric! Simply brush the Watercolor Ground on and within 24 hours the surface will be transformed into an exciting absorbent ground for watercolor! If you make a mistake, rescue your painting with Titanium White Watercolor Ground the “white out” for artists that allows you to cover up and start over with a fresh white surface. You can use one of the colored Grounds to create surface texture or use the Transparent Watercolor Ground which allows the surface of your substrate, for example, wood grain or decorative paper, to show through when you paint over with watercolors. DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground creates a soft, absorbent watercolor surface with a slightly cottony texture that’s similar to cold press paper. With this breakthrough archival-quality ground, artists can create new work on any surface, rescue flawed paintings, lift and scrub without damaging the painting surface, and frame without glass. There’s really no end to what can be done! Key Features:* Absorbent watercolor ground* Works on multiple surfaces* Archival and acid-free.* Holds up to vigorous scrubbing Perfect For:* Watercolor Artists* Mixed media applications* Framing without Glass The beauty of watercolor is transparency and transparency is what gives watercolor paintings their distinctive clarity, luminosity, and realism. Now, with DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground, artists can get this unique visual quality on any surface they choose: * Wood & Plaster* Canvas & Masonite* All types of paper* Fabric* Glass & Plexiglass* Metal* Plastic* Stone & Masonry Preparation Absorbent or semi-absorbent surfaces require no special prep before brushing on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground. These include paper, canvas and other fabrics, wood, plaster, shells, and hardboard. Non-absorbent surfaces such as metal, plastic or glass should be lightly abraded with sandpaper or steel wool before brushing on the Watercolor Ground. Application We recommend using Watercolor Ground straight from the container. It has a thick, brushable consistency. Use a soft-haired synthetic brush, foam brush or foam roller for a smoother finish, or a hog bristle brush for a more textured finish. The ground is highly pigmented so one coat will cover most surfaces; very absorbent surfaces such as unfinished softwood may require two coats, allowing the first coat to cure before adding the second. Wash brushes immediately after use. TIP – when using the Watercolor Ground to Rescue a Painting, thin some Watercolor Ground in a small dish with up to 10% of water and use a soft brush like a hake brush to blend the edges. Curing Let Watercolor Ground dry and cure for at least 24 hours. This allows it to attain the right degree of absorption. Painting DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground works beautifully with watercolors and thinned acrylics. Because it creates a surface more absorbent than paper, you will want to use less water with your paint. Experiment and see what works best for you. It also works beautifully with DANIEL SMITH Masking Fluid. Finishing As with all watercolors, your work on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground will need to be fixed if it will not be framed behind glass. We suggest spraying with a high quality, Archival Aerosol MSA Varnish with UVLS to protect your painting. DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Grounds give artists more freedom to paint with their watercolors; on any surface, rescue a watercolor painting and add more creative opportunities for painting with watercolors! Gamblin Oil Painting Ground 32oz CanSave Up to40%Off listWhite Makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings Gamblin Oil Painting Ground makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings. Gamblin Ground is formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide, and calcium carbonate – titanium dioxide gives opacity, while calcium carbonate gives tooth for strong adhesion. Gamblin Ground makes a brighter and less-absorbent ground layer compared to acrylic “gesso” – meaning that oil paint layers on top will better retain their color saturation. In addition, the lower absorbency allows for “reductive” underpainting techniques when painters need to wipe back to the white of the Ground. Key Features:* See video - Ground Application* Makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings* Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide, and calcium carbonate* Brighter and less-absorbent ground layer * Oil paint layers on top will better retain their color saturation* Lower absorbency * Thicker than acrylic gesso* Can be applied on top of acrylic gesso Because the percentage of pigments is so much higher than in acrylic “gesso”, painters need only apply TWO coats of Gamblin Ground instead of the recommended four coats of acrylic. Fabric supports should be sized with PVA Size before applying Gamblin Ground. Also, Gamblin Ground can be applied on top of acrylic gesso for a brighter white, less-absorbent ground layer. Gamblin Ground is thicker than acrylic gesso, and requires different application techniques See More
