Natural Smooth, absorbent, uncoated panel used with a variety of media The Ampersand value series artist wood panel is an unprimed basswood that is smooth, absorbent, uncoated panel that is free from plywood seams, knots, or troublesome raised fibers. Unprimed Basswood can be used with a variety of media. With the exception of encaustics and pyrography, it is strongly recommended to seal and prime all unprimed panels before use. Basswood is a premium, select wood that outperforms the commonly used birch plywood in many ways. It is inherently smoother with a tight wood grain and no raised fibers, making it easier to gesso and paint on. The strong 4mm premium basswood surface is perfect for priming and painting, encaustic, mixed media, collage, wood burning, and heavy paint applications. White Premium Heavy Duty European Style and Quality Linen - The ultimate stretched linen canvas for oil color artists! Beginning with only the finest quality long-yarn linen fibers, Paris canvas is woven into a medium-weight fabric with a 42 TPI warp and 40 TPI weft. The linen is hand-washed and pumiced to a lovely even surface, then coated with 3 layers of PVA glue sizing and 1 coat of archival, non-yellowing, off-white oil primer, and is hand-sanded between coats for ideal adhesion. This oil primer is specially formulated to produce beautiful results with oil paints: as it is non-absorbent, the oils in the paint are allowed to sit up on the surface, making for luminous, refractive effects only possible with oil paints used on the proper ground. Once primed and dried, the canvas is stretched onto innovatively designed solid pine stretcher bars instead of the standard tongue-and-groove join of regular stretcher bars; these bars feature slot-lap joins that are far less likely to go out of square. In addition, the 1" deep by 2-1/4" wide stretchers offer more support to the canvas, as the bulk of the size is in the width.
