Rather than using toxic and unpredictable lead drying agents, Michael Harding has prepared a selection of oil, resin, balsam, and wax painting medium creations that will safely yet traditionally alter your paint film to suit your painting needs! In place of traditional sun-thickened linseed oil, Harding's oil mediums formula utilizes the best grade viscous linseed stand oil, given its ability to self-level, impart elasticity into the paint film, and does not yellow or darken appreciably over time. Otherwise, the raw materials used are consistent with those of the past. Mediums and varnishes are available in 100ml and 250ml jars. Use it to thin the paint for easier flow, and reduce visible brush marks. Refined Linseed Stand Oil - Refined Linseed Stand Oil is a viscous, pale oil medium extracted from linseed. It will level out brushstrokes in oil paint and slow the drying process. Refined Safflower Oil - a pale, clean, slow-drying oil that can be used to brighten and thin oil paints. Refined Walnut Oil - Walnut oil dries at the same rate as linseed oil, but it doesn't yellow as much. The film cures clean and bright. Refined Poppyseed Oil - Refined Poppyseed Oil tempers the consistency of oil paints while increasing their gloss and transparency. Poppyseed oil is often incorporated with whites and light blues because of its non-yellowing nature. Gum Turpentine - Gum Turpentine is a colourless solvent distilled from pine sap. It is used to thin oil paint and generally speeds the drying time and thus is especially useful for underpainting. Dammar Glaze Medium - A traditional glaze medium (with cobalt siccative) that helps add depth and gloss to transparent colors. Known for its speedy drying time of oil colors; use with slower drying colors. Oil Painting Medium - A basic oil medium designed to ease flow and increase gloss, transparency, depth, and bedaub of the pigment color. This medium is a linseed stand oil and turpentine formulation that prevents the yellowing of paint film. Resin-Oil-Wax Medium - A soft painting paste derived from pure bleached beeswax mixed with dammar resin and linseed stand oil. This popular medium creates a lovely satin sheen and gentle impasto in paint layers. Settling of the medium may occur - allow jar to stand in hot water and stir contents until dissolved. Impasto Medium (Megilp): Schmincke Meglip Impasto Medium is an oil painting medium designed for painting thickly. The medium preserves the buttery character of oil paint while accelerating the drying process. When you are applying paint in a thick style with a palette knife you should include some Impasto Medium to support the drying process between layers of paint. Contains: alkyd resin, stand oil, and fillers. Medium L: The Jelly-like medium improves oil paint flow while reducing brush strokes, accelerating drying time, and increasing gloss and transparency. Shake well and stir before use. Close immediately after use. The recommended dosage for medium L is 10 - 20 %. The product is ready to use out of the bottle, but you can dilute it with turpentine substitute 50019. Medium W: Schmincke Medium W is a low-odor oil paint additive that transforms traditional oil paints into water-mixable oils. The odorless medium increases gloss and transparency while allowing you to clean your tools with water. You should shake the bottle before use. Mix 2 parts of oil color and 1 part of Medium W on your palette, then add water to thin. Add more Medium W to the mixture as necessary. After use, you can clean your painting tools with water. Oil colors mixed with Medium W may appear lighter or "milky" when wet, but the color will return as the paint dries. Medium W Gel: Schmincke Medium W Gel is a jelly-like oil paint additive that transforms traditional oil paints into water-mixable oils. The odorless medium increases gloss and transparency while allowing you to clean your tools with water. Mix 2 parts of oil color and 1 part of Medium W Gel on your palette, then add water to thin.
