From the small town of Fabriano we have championed the ideas of some of the greatest masters of Western culture. We made the paper. They made history. Fabriano is renowned for three significant breakthroughs: animal gelatine, the watermark, and the multiple hammer mill. Equally important are the three unique manufacturing methods that continue to set its paper apart: handmade, mould-made machine, and Fourdrinier machine.
Is Fabriano paper a good brand? With a wide range of fine art papers, Fabriano is excellent paper and considered one of the best paper brands in the world. Fabriano has mixed natural fibres by hand since 1264 to produce an extraordinary, unique product: our paper, la bella carta. Fabriano paper is part of Italy’s cultural heritage and is chosen by millions of students and artists every year, in Italy and all over the world.
Where is Fabriano paper made? Since 2002 Fabriano has been part of the Fedrigoni Group, a company specialising in the production and sale of special papers, from packaging to graphics, and premium solutions for the world of self-adhesives. Fabriano is a large paper manufacturer in Italy founded in 1888 by Giuseppe Antonio. A parchment document from 1264, held today in Matelica (MC), is evidence of Amalfi paper production in Fabriano, produced by animal gelatin sizing and made of cotton fibres. It is the start of a paper revolution, and of the fortunes of paper made from cotton.
