Sponge Blender sticks are also perfect for applying color directly off them to areas, for soft touches and dabs of subtle pastel. Springy Sponge Blender handles have unique scraper tips that can be used for removing small areas of color or carving lines into thicker color layers. Stumps (Stomps) and Tortillions Stumps are traditional blending tools for pastels, charcoal, and graphite pencil drawings, manufactured from tightly-rolled cylinders of blotting paper that is then sharpened into a point at one or both ends. Stumps are best used for blending larger areas. Tortillions are used for smudging pencil, charcoal, and pastel works. Tortillions vary from Stumps in that they are created from diagonally rolled paper, instead of a tighter rolled cylinder (Stumps). Tortillions work best blending in tighter areas, as they have a firmer tighter tip due to their construction. When the ends of either become dirty or worn, the ends can be sanded clean (and shaped to custom points) with the Sanding Pad, also included in the set. Sandpaper Pad Sandpaper Pads are the best accessory for not only cleaning Stumps and Tortillions, but also for sharpening pastel and charcoal sticks and pencils into points or hard edges for detail work.
