Since 1664, Old Holland has been manufacturing the most professional quality pigments, painting oils, and varnishes for artists like Vermeer and the Dutch Masters. Enhances the fluidity of paint and enables brush strokes to be removed. Enhances gloss but lengthens the drying time, dries to a flexible, durable paint film. Used as an ingredient in custom painting mediums. Can be thinned with turpentine or white spirit. Bleached Linseed Oil - Cold pressed linseed oil which has been bleached to lighten the oil color, making it yellow less than traditional linseed oil, but dries slower, as well. Enhances the fluidity of paint and enables brushstrokes to be removed. Enhances gloss of paint film. Can be thinned with turpentine or white spirit. Stand Oil - Boiled polymerized linseed oil, thick to a honey-like consistency. A popular additive in painting mediums, especially for glazing mediums. Yellows less than linseed oil as has already begun the oxidation process. Dries more slowly than regular linseed oil, to a flexible and durable paint film. Refined Poppy Oil - Obtained from the first pressing of poppy seeds. Maintains many of the qualities of linseed oil, but yellows less when mixed with light colors and dries much more slowly. Use conservatively as Poppy Oil paint film dries more brittle than linseed oil. See More

It will level out brushstrokes in oil paint and slow the drying process. Refined Linseed Stand Oil has a honey-like viscosity and should be used sparingly. You can add linseed oil to your oil paints to increase flow; however, an excess will lead to some yellowing due to the natural colour of the oil. Apply the paint layers thinly to avoid other defects of excess, such as wrinkling. Increases Gloss and Transparency * Brand: Michael Harding * Refined Linseed Stand Oil Medium * Viscous, pale oil medium * Professional quality * Made with refined linseed oil * Improves paint consistency During the winter months, it is entirely normal for linseed oil to undergo a process known as clouding or thickening due to the lower temperatures. Linseed oil contains fatty acids that can solidify or become more viscous in colder conditions. This natural occurrence does not affect the quality of the oil; however, it can make application challenging. To address this issue, simply warm the linseed oil before use. Placing the container in a warm water bath or exposing it to a slightly elevated temperature will help restore the oil to its liquid state, making it easier to apply and ensuring that it maintains its desirable properties. This simple step allows for a smoother application of linseed oil, preserving its effectiveness. SAFETY NOTE: Soft materials that have absorbed linseed oil should be stored in sealed containers, as the oil will oxidise when exposed to air. This chemical reaction releases so much heat that rags may spontaneously combust. Make sure the lid of the container is closed securely and stored in a cool place. Brushes and tools used with linseed oil should be cleaned thoroughly with white spirit. See More

Refined… Handmade Oil Colour Mediums, Carefully Crafted From The Highest-Grade Natural Materials! Rather than using toxic and unpredictable lead drying agents, Michael Harding has prepared a selection of oil, resin, balsam, and wax painting medium creations that will safely yet traditionally alter your paint film to suit your painting needs! In place of traditional sun-thickened linseed oil, Harding's oil mediums formula utilizes the best grade viscous linseed stand oil, given its ability to self-level, impart elasticity into the paint film, and does not yellow or darken appreciably over time. Otherwise, the raw materials used are consistent with those of the past. Mediums and varnishes are available in 100ml and 250ml jars. See the description tab for information on each individual medium. Refined Linseed Oil - increases the gloss and transparency of oil paints. Use it to thin the paint for easier flow, and reduce visible brush marks. Refined Linseed Stand Oil - Refined Linseed Stand Oil is a viscous, pale oil medium extracted from linseed. It will level out brushstrokes in oil paint and slow the drying process. Refined Safflower Oil - a pale, clean, slow-drying oil that can be used to brighten and thin oil paints. Refined Walnut Oil - Walnut oil dries at the same rate as linseed oil, but it doesn't yellow as much. The film cures clean and bright. Refined Poppyseed Oil - Refined Poppyseed Oil tempers the consistency of oil paints while increasing their gloss and transparency. Poppyseed oil is often incorporated with whites and light blues because of its non-yellowing nature. Gum Turpentine - Gum Turpentine is a colourless solvent distilled from pine sap. It is used to thin oil paint and generally speeds the drying time and thus is especially useful for underpainting. Dammar Glaze Medium - A traditional glaze medium (with cobalt siccative) that helps add depth and gloss to transparent colors. Known for its speedy drying time of oil colors; use with slower drying colors. Oil Painting Medium - A basic oil medium designed to ease flow and increase gloss, transparency, depth, and bedaub of the pigment color. This medium is a linseed stand oil and turpentine formulation that prevents the yellowing of paint film. Resin-Oil-Wax Medium - A soft painting paste derived from pure bleached beeswax mixed with dammar resin and linseed stand oil. This popular medium creates a lovely satin sheen and gentle impasto in paint layers. Settling of the medium may occur - allow jar to stand in hot water and stir contents until dissolved. Oleo-Resin Medium - A historic glazing medium based on light-colored Canadian balsam fused with dammar resin and linseed stand oil. This versatile medium provides high gloss levels while imparting depth to paint films. Beeswax Paste - A high oil content paste based on linseed stand oil and pure bleached beeswax. The paste increases the body of oil colors with a satin-matte finish, which is especially useful with opaque colors. Balsam Resin Glaze - Another historical glazing medium, it is based on Austrian Larch Turpentine (Venice Turpentine) with Dammar resin and linseed stand oil. This wonderful-smelling medium is added to oil colors to enhance depth, gloss, and luster. Matte Varnish - Creates a long-lasting, protective coating with a beautiful matte finish. Made from real beeswax dissolved in the finest Portuguese Turpentine. Heat the container before using (until the contents turn clear) and then apply one thin coat - dries within minutes. Apply this varnish as a final picture varnish to thoroughly dry oil paint (6 months minimum- up to 18 months if the paint is very thick). Dammar Varnish - Versatile varnish that creates a subtle gloss finish. Made from the best quality dammar resin from Thailand, dissolved in double-rectified Portuguese maritime Turpentine, and then carefully filtered.
