Safer. More Permanent. Gamblin Oil Painting mediums offer a great deal more than simply extending oil colors. Mediums modify the working properties of oil color from the tube – from a fluid consistency for expressive mark making to a stiff paste for creating thick, crisp marks. Painting mediums also broaden the visual qualities of our colors – from increasing the transparency of paint layers, to creating a range of surface qualities, from high gloss to matte. Gamblin’s family of Galkyd painting mediums and Cold Wax Medium are formulated with Gamsol. We recommend only Gamsol for thinning these materials. Alkali Refined Linseed Oil - Processed from flax seeds. This linseed is the purest and lightest industrially produced variety. Cold Pressed Linseed Oil - Made from the first pressing of flax seeds without heat or chemicals of any kind. Cold Wax Medium - Made from natural white unbleached beeswax. Mix directly into colors. Cold Wax creates an ultra-thick, matte impasto. For greater shine and flexibility mix with Galkyd medium. "G-Gel" - Made from alkyd resin, Galkyd Gel is a colorless oil color additive that accelerates the drying rate of oil colors and enables artists to create thick transparent paintings with a moderate sheen. Galkyd Painting Medium - Alkyd based resin painting medium that thins oil paints and maintains a strong flexible paint film. Galkyd speeds the drying rate and is excellent for glazing providing an enamel like finish. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Painting Medium Lite No.2 - This low viscosity alkyd resin painting medium is a good replacement for traditional damar/ linseed oil/ turpentine combination mediums. Galkyd Lite dries within about 3 hours to a subdued gloss, and will maintain your brush strokes. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Slow Drying Medium - Especially formulated to thin oil colors and give painters extended working time. To use mix equal portions of medium with oil colors to paint wet for at least a day. Since this product should not be diluted you may want to purchase the larger size. Gamsol - Quality solvent and medium and for general oil painting. Gamsol is also an excellent studio and brush cleaner. Odorless Mineral Spirits -Gamsol is the safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise. Primary Uses for Gamsol - Thinning oil colors, Modifying painting mediums, Studio clean up.Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Gamvar - Conservation quality varnish for oil, acrylic and alkyd paintings. This resin varnish may be removed with a mild solvent and contains a UV stabilizer. Developed in association with the National Gallery of Art. Package makes enough varnish to cover 80 sq ft. Once varnish is applied surface will have a uniform gloss apperance. Neo-Megilp - When mixed into oil colors Neo-Megilp makes them richer and deeper and finished paintings have a luminous glow! Neo-Megilp will not darken or crack over time. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Oil Painting Ground - For strong, bright foundations of oil paintings. Requires only 2 coats. Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide and barium sulfate. Stiffer than traditional gesso. PVA Size - Use as a barrier size between linen or cotton canvas instead of rabbit skin glue. Remains flexible and won't yellow, shrink or swell. Poppy Oil - Poppy Oil's slow drying time may be useful for painters using "wet into wet" techniques. Adding 10% by volume poppy oil slows down the drying time of Gamblin Galkyd Painting Mediums. Rabbit Skin Glue - Gamblin's Rabbit Skin Glue is the traditional size for fabric support on panels. It seals porous fabric and isolates it from ground or oil paints. Stretching the canvas is easy, because the size shrinks as it dries. Safflower Oil- Gamblin's Safflower Oil is a pale, slow-drying oil. Safflower oil increases flow of oil colors and slows dry time. Use sparingly or mix with an equal amount of Gamsol to create a traditional slow-drying, low-viscosity painting medium. Solvent-Free Gel Medium - This unique, non-toxic blend of safflower oil and alkyd resin gives colors more flow and transparency, yet holds brushstrokes well. It has a moderately fast drying rate, increases gloss, and supports the broadest range of painting techniques with the least compromise across color, dry time, texture and mark-making. Contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Solvent-Free Fluid Medium- Gamblin's Solvent-Free Fluid Mediumgives oil colors more flow and transparency, It has a moderately fast drying rate that increases gloss. Made from safflower oil and alkyd resin, this medium is non-toxic and contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Stand Oil - Vacuum bodied heavy oil which can be used in painting and glazing mediums. Dries to an enamel like finish. Traditional Gesso - Gamblin's Traditional Gesso is a dry mixture of rabbit skin glue, gypsum, marble dust, and titanium dioxide. Paintings on gesso are more matte because of the high absorbency of traditional gesso. Wax Pastilles - Small beads of naturally white unbleached beeswax.* See More

Both Solvent-Free Fluid and Gel increase the flow of oil colors, increase transparency, gloss and color saturation. Both Solvent-Free Fluid and Gel increase the flow of oil colors,… Gamblin Solvent-Free Painting Mediums Solvent-Free Gel and Solvent-Free Fluid are painting mediums made from safflower oil and alkyd resin with no solvent. Why safflower? We chose safflower for these mediums because of its paler color. The alkyd resin, which is essentially a highly polymerized oil, accounts for the faster drying rate of these materials, compared to either linseed or safflower oils used alone. Both Solvent-Free Fluid and Gel increase the flow of oil colors, increase transparency, gloss and color saturation. Both Solvent-Free Fluid and Gel increase the flow of oil colors, increase transparency, gloss and color saturation Solvent-free-Mediums:* Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel gives colors more flow and transparency, yet holds the shape of your brushmark. Solvent-Free Gel has a moderately fast drying rate and increases gloss. Made from safflower oil and alkyd resin, Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel is non-toxic and contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates.Solvent-Free Gel is available in the following size: 37 ml, 150 ml * Gamblin Solvent-Free Fluid painting medium gives oil colors more flow and transparency. It has a moderately fast drying rate and increases gloss. Made from safflower oil and alkyd resin, Gamblin Solvent-Free Fluid is non-toxic and contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. To ensure proper drying and prevent beading-up of paint layers, Solvent-Free Fluid should be used in moderation with oil colors – no more than 25% by volume. To avoid wrinkling, apply mixtures of Solvent-Free Fluid and oil colors thinly. For underpainting, we recommend adding Gamsol to Solvent-Free Fluid. Solvent-Free Fluid is available in the following sizes: 4.2oz, 8.5 oz & 16.9 oz. * Gamblin Safflower Oil is a pale, slow-drying oil. When used as a painting medium, Safflower Oil to colors increases flow and slows dry times. Use sparingly or mix with an equal amount Gamsol to create a traditional slow-drying, low-viscosity painting medium. To paint solvent-free, we recommend Gamblin Safflower Oil for cleaning brushes while you are working. Solvent-Free Safflower Oil is available in the following sizes: 8.5 oz & 16.9 oz. The biggest difference between the Solvent-Free Fluid and the Gel is their consistency. The Fluid medium more significantly increases the flow of oil colors off of the brush. In terms of its working properties, it is similar to either straight linseed or safflower, though faster-drying. Brush-marks will be slightly leveled, or “rounded” when using the Fluid. Drying Time: In regards to their drying, these mediums have a “moderately fast” drying rate – meaning that thin layers will dry to the touch in approximately 36 – 48 hours. Because they rely solely on oxidation to dry, they have a longer working time compared to our Galkyd mediums, which begin to tack up as their Gamsol content evaporates from paint layers. See More

Gamblin Gamsol is also an excellent studio and brush cleaner. Odorless Mineral Spirits - Gamsol is the safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise. Primary Uses for Gamsol - Thinning oil colors, Modifying painting mediums, Studio clean up.Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Primary Uses for Gamsol:* Thinning oil colors. A little goes a long way; stiff oil colors relax immediately when a little Gamsol is added. Be careful not to thin oil colors too much with solvent alone, this can compromise the ability of the paint to form a paint film.* Modifying painting mediums. Our Galkyd line of painting mediums are formulated with Gamsol, so they readily accept Gamsol as a thinning agent. Note: Gamsol should not be added to painting mediums made with natural resins (dammar, copal, mastic). They require strong solvents such as turpentine.* Studio clean-up: brushes, palettes, palette knives, etc.* Odorless* Available in the following sizes: 4.2 oz,16.9 oz, 33.8 oz, 128 oz* No solvent odors, only the wonderful smell of oil colors* Widely used in oil painting classrooms* Flash point: 62.2 °C / 144.0 °F (See SDS Sheet) How does Gamsol achieve this level of performance and safety? Most solvents available to artists come from the industrial paint industry where solvent power and cheapness is prized. Gamsol is special: it is made for products and processes that come into more intimate contact with the body such as cosmetics, hand cleaners, and cleaning food service equipment. Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Aromatic solvents are the most harmful types of petroleum solvents. The Gamsol SDS shows that it has an Exposure Limit Value higher than most solvents available to artists. In addition, Gamsol’s flash point allows it to ship via air cargo as a non-hazardous material. All of these factors have lead to Gamsol being used widely in oil painting classrooms; in those classes, there are no solvent odors, only the wonderful smell of oil colors See More

Imagine eliminating the various problems associated with the current modern brush. A brush that provides better control, convenience, balance, and function. One that is so unique that its introduction represents a new birth of superior painting brushes. Nuovo Long Handle Professional Brushes have three patented changes that make them feel lighter, not front heavy, so holding at their farthest end will be comfortable, allowing for a controlled stroke and smooth transitioning long stroke. The handles do not taper, and the diameter of the handle is consistent throughout, which makes the most comfortable area to hold the brush more towards the back. These patented changes apply to the standard 300mm brush handle and the handle extensions, making them 400mm long. The exclusively patented brush ferrules have both side support and a domed cut-out so that the brushes with long hair put the force of your stroke at the tip. The bristles will hold more paint and ensure no bristle hairs will splay. A little past the center of the handle is the fulcrum balance point. The Nuovo brush is balanced, so you can easily hold it with one finger. Painting at or just past the fulcrum point feels natural, allowing for perfect control of the brush with or without the handle extension. Holding the handle at the rear allows for superb control. Finally, the standard brush and the handle extension feature a magnetic end, which can be attached to any easel or surface by attaching our metal mounting discs (available separately), which are perfect for hanging and storing brushes on your easel between uses. Another benefit of hanging your brushes when not in use is it forces the paint and solvent towards the front of the bristles. Any excess will gather at the tip, and you can quickly wipe it away. Now your brushes will always be in the ready position! Key Features:* 5 sizes (click the paper icon for more details)* Long filbert natural hog bristle hairs* They hold more color than any other brush* Maximum controlled strokes without splaying* Flattened, non-staining, non-rusting ferrule* Patented side supports plus domed cut-out to retain brush shape* Balanced non-tapered handle* Brushes are light and comfortable to handle at their end* Less strain on your wrist, zero fatigue, more working time* Each handle is 13 inches long with a magnetic end* Removable 3-inch counterweight magnetic extensions sold separately* Total 16-inch handle when using counterweight magnetic extension* Brushes can attach with metal mounting disks* Self-adhesive metal alloy medallions (5 Pack, sold separately) * Perfect For:* Portrait artists see subject matter better* Professional oil painters* Muralists and plein aire* Easel painters* Hanging to the underside of the easel (magnetic ends, medallions)* Attaching to a wall or any flat surface (magnetic ends, medallions)* Precise painting, blending, and expressive movement* Artists wanting the best experience* Working at an easel with controlled, even strokes* Superior control* Long smooth transitional strokes and line control* Ultimate tools of the trade for any oil color painter!* Limited storage space* No-hassle, everyday studio use Why Nuovo Brushes - Multiple Patents, Tremendous Control! * The breakthrough in brush design in 300 years* Longer hair holds more color than any other brush today* Greater precision and defined points* Tremendous controlled lines and long smooth transitional strokes* Held from their farthest end comfortably* Better weight distribution, zero hand fatigue* Maximum controlled strokes without splaying* Non rusting, non-staining ferrule Jerry's Exclusive - Best Seller! Bristles hold more color than ANY other brush, plus greater precision with ZERO hand fatigue! A brush that is so unique that its introduction represents a new birth of superior painting brushes! The current modern easel brush has a long 12-inch tapered handle and a seamless, flattened ferrule that allows artists to stand away from the easel. This design has remained unchanged for 300 years because it was the universally accepted way to make a brush. However, this design has several problems. The first problem is balance. A balanced brush experience is when a brush is gripped a few inches from the ferrule, defeating the purpose of an easel brush. Instead of finding yourself taking advantage of the handle length, you find yourself holding the handle near the ferrule, where it is comfortable and at its widest diameter. When clasping at the tip of the handle, the brush tends to flop, which leads to loss of control, plus the squeezing causes hand fatigue.* Chelsea Nuovo brushes have a balanced feel even when held from their farthest end. They have better weight distribution and zero hand fatigue. The second problem is the flat metal ferrule, which holds the bristle hair. Most brush shapes we used today have a flattened ferrule, with which the force of your stroke causes an outward pushing of the brush hairs. This push can make them less supple and often takes the paint off the canvas when painting. Brights get stiff as dried paint builds up where the hair and ferrule meet. Short bright brushes need constant cleaning, and full-size flats encourage shorter strokes as you paint. With longer hair brushes, such as extra-long filberts, stroke control is an issue, and the brush head cannot hold much color. If you paint with any long hair brush, from flats to filberts, the horizontal force across the entire ferrule causes hair to splay, leading to distorted shapes and loss of control.* Chelsea Nuovo brushes have a patented brush ferrule with side support and domed cut-out so that the force of your stroke is at the tip. The bristles will hold more paint and keep their shape. The third problem is well known to any artist using multiple brushes. You have to deal with the issue of brush storage when switching between them. Color transference between the brush heads can happen if you hold them in your hand. Putting them down on a flat surface can get paint not only on the handles but the surface, and the brush heads can touch, rendering them useless. Some artists use a brush vase to stand the brushes up, but ultimately some will contact. * Chelsea Nuovo brush handles feature a magnetic end, which can be attached to any easel or surface using the metal mounting discs. Perfect for hanging and storing brushes between uses. See More
