Painting with buttery oils requires a medium that helps alter paint consistency for color mixing, blending, and glazing. DANIEL SMITH Oil mediums improve transparency and gloss and, depending on the formula, can decrease drying time. DANIEL SMITH Oil Mediums allow artists to extend their oil paints and waste less paint; this is especially true with DANIEL SMITH Original Oils, which are highly pigmented. With DANIEL SMITH Oil Mediums, you can expand the value of your highly pigmented paint event farther! Key Features: * Accelerate or slow drying time * Improve transparency and gloss * Outstanding working properties * Extend oil paints and use less paint * Available in 3 different sizes Perfect For: * Traditional oil paints * Blending and glazing * Maintaining consistency * Preserving gloss * Speeding up drying time * Increasing the flow of oil paint Refined Linseed Oil- Its capacity to add gloss and transparency and yield a tough, strong paint film has made linseed oil the most conventional binder in oil paint for centuries. It may cause some yellowing with age. Cold-Pressed Linseed Oil- The simplest form of natural oil, cold-pressed linseed oil, is lighter in color and yellows less than hot pressed or solvent extracted oils. DANIEL SMITH Cold-pressed Linseed Oil also creates a stronger film. Stand Oil– Stand oil, thicker than Linseed oil, prompts oil colors to gradually self-level as they dry, leaving minimal brush strokes. Stand oil is an inappropriate vehicle for making oil paint, but it makes an outstanding painting and glazing medium when diluted with turpentine and damar varnish. It yields a tough paint film without the yellowing tendencies of refined linseed oil. Available in 8oz. See More -

Used as an ingredient in custom painting mediums. Can be thinned with turpentine or white spirit. Bleached Linseed Oil - Cold pressed linseed oil which has been bleached to lighten the oil color, making it yellow less than traditional linseed oil, but dries slower, as well. Enhances the fluidity of paint and enables brushstrokes to be removed. Enhances gloss of paint film. Can be thinned with turpentine or white spirit. Stand Oil - Boiled polymerized linseed oil, thick to a honey-like consistency. A popular additive in painting mediums, especially for glazing mediums. Yellows less than linseed oil as has already begun the oxidation process. Dries more slowly than regular linseed oil, to a flexible and durable paint film. Refined Poppy Oil - Obtained from the first pressing of poppy seeds. Maintains many of the qualities of linseed oil, but yellows less when mixed with light colors and dries much more slowly. Use conservatively as Poppy Oil paint film dries more brittle than linseed oil. See More -

This mid-viscosity medium allows the paint to spread over a surface for more blendable gradations of color. Retarder: slows down the drying process when added to acrylics and mediums. Retarder is particularly useful when painting wet-over-wet or wet-over-dry techniques. About 10% addition to any of the three mediums above can be useful for painting outdoors or in very dry conditions. See More -

Mix with High Flow Acrylics to produce "tie-dye" effects, or blend with GOLDEN Heavy Body, Matte or Fluid Acrylics for brush… GAC 100% acrylic polymer mediums GOLDEN GAC mediums are useful as mediums or modifiers of acrylic paints. GAC (short for Golden Artist Colors) Specialty Acrylic Polymers are based on 100% acrylic polymer emulsions. GAC mediums can be used to extend acrylic colors, to regulate transparency, create glazes, increase gloss, reduce viscosity or improve adhesion and film integrity. The GAC polymers can also be used for binding pigment solids for various effects and surfaces. Unlike the other GOLDEN Mediums and Gels, GOLDEN GAC Acrylic Polymers have only a minimum amount of thickeners, levelers, defoamers and surfactants to ensure good film formation. The consistency of the GAC polymer medium is very fluid, and thinner than other GOLDEN Mediums. Since they do not have thickeners added, these polymers will reduce the thickness of most GOLDEN Acrylic Paints. Fluid Acrylics are slightly thicker than the GACs, but will be the color line least changed in viscosity with any addition of a GAC polymer. Each GAC medium represents a unique polymer that offers certain specific attributes. Therefore, each GAC medium will have its own unique benefits and applications. * GAC 100 Primer Extender Acrylic Polymer Medium: Universal acrylic polymer. Is a thin, translucent, gloss medium. Useful for thinning or extending colors as well as increasing flexibility. Wets out solids more readily than other polymers and is useful for creating homemade paints. GAC 100 provides basic protection from Support Induced Discoloration (SID) * GAC 200 Hard Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium: Promotes adhesion and film hardness. Hard acrylic extender for non-porous surfaces is the hardest and least flexible polymer we offer. It is Ideal for mixing with acrylic colors to increase film hardness, reduce dry film tack and to increase adhesion to many non-porous surfaces. Dries to a clear, high gloss, finish. GAC 200 is not recommended for flexible supports. * GAC 400 Low Crazing Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium: Stiffens textile fibers. Stiffens natural fibers and fabrics and is useful for stiffening unprimed canvas or sculpting and shaping fabric. Fibers saturated with GAC 400 will dry to a hard, stiff film. * GAC 500 Self-Leveling Acrylic Polymer Medium: Extends fluid acrylics. Gloss extender for Fluid Acrylic Colors is a unique balance of film hardness and flexibility offering increased leveling, increased mar resistance and decreased dry film tack. GAC 500 is particularly useful for extending Fluid Acrylic Colors with minimal property change. It can be mixed with Airbrush Transparent Extender for a fast-drying, sprayable isolation coat. * GAC 800 Low Crazing Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium (Pouring Medium): Reduces crazing. GAC 800 is a medium specifically produced to modify paints for pouring, such as when pouring a puddle onto a paint surface Is a low-crazing extender for pouring acrylic colors. "Crazing" is the formation crevices in surfaces that develop as acrylic paints and mediums dry. The addition of GAC 800 promotes drying with a smooth, even film, good gloss and flexibility, but with moderate clarity. GAC 800 is also useful for adhesion to chalky surfaces. * GAC 900 Fabric Medium: Fabric painting medium. Heat set fabric painting medium, offers a very soft hand and laundering stability. Mix with High Flow Acrylics to produce "tie-dye" effects, or blend with GOLDEN Heavy Body, Matte or Fluid Acrylics for brush or screen application.* See More -

To ensure proper drying and prevent beading-up of paint layers, Solvent-Free Fluid should be used in moderation with oil colors – no more than 25% by volume. To avoid wrinkling, apply mixtures of Solvent-Free Fluid and oil colors thinly. For underpainting, we recommend adding Gamsol to Solvent-Free Fluid. Solvent-Free Fluid is available in the following sizes: 4.2oz, 8.5 oz & 16.9 oz. * Gamblin Safflower Oil is a pale, slow-drying oil. When used as a painting medium, Safflower Oil to colors increases flow and slows dry times. Use sparingly or mix with an equal amount Gamsol to create a traditional slow-drying, low-viscosity painting medium. To paint solvent-free, we recommend Gamblin Safflower Oil for cleaning brushes while you are working. Solvent-Free Safflower Oil is available in the following sizes: 8.5 oz & 16.9 oz. The biggest difference between the Solvent-Free Fluid and the Gel is their consistency. The Fluid medium more significantly increases the flow of oil colors off of the brush. In terms of its working properties, it is similar to either straight linseed or safflower, though faster-drying. Brush-marks will be slightly leveled, or “rounded” when using the Fluid. Drying Time: In regards to their drying, these mediums have a “moderately fast” drying rate – meaning that thin layers will dry to the touch in approximately 36 – 48 hours. Because they rely solely on oxidation to dry, they have a longer working time compared to our Galkyd mediums, which begin to tack up as their Gamsol content evaporates from paint layers. See More -
