It will level out brushstrokes in oil paint and slow the drying process. Refined Linseed Stand Oil has a honey-like viscosity and should be used sparingly. You can add linseed oil to your oil paints to increase flow; however, an excess will lead to some yellowing due to the natural colour of the oil. Apply the paint layers thinly to avoid other defects of excess, such as wrinkling. Increases Gloss and Transparency * Brand: Michael Harding * Refined Linseed Stand Oil Medium * Viscous, pale oil medium * Professional quality * Made with refined linseed oil * Improves paint consistency During the winter months, it is entirely normal for linseed oil to undergo a process known as clouding or thickening due to the lower temperatures. Linseed oil contains fatty acids that can solidify or become more viscous in colder conditions. This natural occurrence does not affect the quality of the oil; however, it can make application challenging. To address this issue, simply warm the linseed oil before use. Placing the container in a warm water bath or exposing it to a slightly elevated temperature will help restore the oil to its liquid state, making it easier to apply and ensuring that it maintains its desirable properties. This simple step allows for a smoother application of linseed oil, preserving its effectiveness. SAFETY NOTE: Soft materials that have absorbed linseed oil should be stored in sealed containers, as the oil will oxidise when exposed to air. This chemical reaction releases so much heat that rags may spontaneously combust. Make sure the lid of the container is closed securely and stored in a cool place. Brushes and tools used with linseed oil should be cleaned thoroughly with white spirit. See More

Rather than using toxic and unpredictable lead drying agents, Michael Harding has prepared a selection of oil, resin, balsam, and wax painting medium creations that will safely yet traditionally alter your paint film to suit your painting needs! In place of traditional sun-thickened linseed oil, Harding's oil mediums formula utilizes the best grade viscous linseed stand oil, given its ability to self-level, impart elasticity into the paint film, and does not yellow or darken appreciably over time. Otherwise, the raw materials used are consistent with those of the past. Mediums and varnishes are available in 100ml and 250ml jars. This versatile medium provides high gloss levels while imparting depth to paint films. Beeswax Paste - A high oil content paste based on linseed stand oil and pure bleached beeswax. Balsam Resin Glaze - Another historical glazing medium, it is based on Austrian Larch Turpentine (Venice Turpentine) with Dammar resin and linseed stand oil. This wonderful-smelling medium is added to oil colors to enhance depth, gloss, and luster. Matte Varnish - Creates a long-lasting, protective coating with a beautiful matte finish. Made from real beeswax dissolved in the finest Portuguese Turpentine. Heat the container before using (until the contents turn clear) and then apply one thin coat - dries within minutes. Apply this varnish as a final picture varnish to thoroughly dry oil paint (6 months minimum- up to 18 months if the paint is very thick).
