For many years, brush makers have worked to find a synthetic that could imitate Kolinsky Red Sable hair. This research has been going on for years because of the intricate nature of sable, which is now very rare and expensive. da Vinci has finally cracked the code with its Colineo Brushes. Each brush is made with a balanced blend of different lengths of straight and wavy synthetic fibers. These fibers have extra fine tips that taper to a point and mimic natural sable. At the same time, the Colineo brushes have a lot of spring and are highly absorbent. All these features help Colineo give a convincing imitation of Red Sable hair. The family-owned da Vinci brush company has designed quality brushes for three generations in Germany. They produce well-made, elegant, and durable brushes utilizing the latest innovations. Today there are hosts of synthetic brushes available, but there has never been an acrylic brush able to outperform natural hair, that is until now. The motivation for creating the Berlin Synthetic Long Handle Brush series were artists just like you! We set out to eliminate all of the drawbacks associated with synthetic acrylic brushes. Specifically: synthetic hair that did not hold color or perform with the control and precision of natural hair. With the help of our German brush manufacturer and customer input, we created the Berlin series. As a result of our research, all Berlin brushes are interlocked using a special heat treatment process that creates a bounce-back memory effect and produces a brush with great shape and resistance. Berlin brushes use a blend of four different filament diameter sizes between .1mm to .28mm. The mix of filament hair is dependent on the size and shape of the brush. The synthetic filament hair is also treated and shaped so that each brush closely parallels natural hair in texture and tapers to create a very robust brush body with a soft feel at the tip. Each Berlin brush features a nickel-plated silver ferrule and a long Blue Turquoise handle made of wood from sustainable forests. The handles are dipped in a high-grade varnish four times, which helps to keep them in good condition if properly cleaned. Simply put, these brushes are a modern marvel that will allow you to translate your ideas through your hand and onto the canvas with unparalleled ease. Sennelier Egg Tempera - Ivory Black, 34ml TubeSave Up to35%Off listBlack A highly pigmented, professional tempera medium Sennelier Egg Tempera paint is a semi-opaque, water-soluble and permanent painting medium used for fine art painting and restoration (and can even be used as an underpainting for oil paints). Unlike oils, egg tempera does not age or yellow, due to being egg emulsion-based instead of oil based. Varnished egg tempera paintings are difficult to distinguish from oils due to their vibrancy and brilliance in how the pigment suspends in the emulsion. It is a popular medium with oil painters who seek a health alternative to the harsh and dangerous solvents involved with oil colors, as it requires nothing more than soap and water cleanup. Like their other paint lines, Sennelier Egg Tempera paints are professional quality pigments with the highest pigment loads possible. Key Features:* Classical painting medium* Water soluble, no need for solvents* Highly archival* Rich satin-matte finish* Highly pigmented paints* Authentic egg tempera made in the traditional manner* Use varnish over egg tempera paintings for an oil painting like appearance Perfect For:* Fine art painting, restoration, and icon painting* Underpainting for oil painters* Restoration Work * Icon Painting* Technical illustrative painting styles Intro Set of 5- Contains five 21 ml tubes including: Titanium White, Lemon Yellow, Rose Madder Lake, Ultramarine Blue, and Ivory Black Light Wooden Box Set Of 15 - Contains: One 34 ml tube of Titanium White, one 60 ml jar of Egg Tempera Binding Medium, a wooden palette, one metal palette cup, two brushes, a Flat #4 and a Round #5, 15, 21 ml tubes of Egg Tempera: Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Yellow Deep Genuine, Carmine, Cobalt Violet Hue, Emerald Green, Ivory Black, Lemon Yellow, Naples Yellow, Permanent Intense Red, Prussian Blue, Raw Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Vermilion, Viridian, and Yellow Ochre. Capable of creating detailed and complex effects, the medium of egg tempera can be traced back as early as ancient Greece. During the early Italian Renaissance, egg tempera reached its’ zenith, and was the predominant medium for religious icon panel paintings done between the 12th and 15th centuries. Even with the rise in popularity of oils beginning in the 15th century, Renaissance masters such as Michelangelo and Botticelli continued to prefer the deep luminosity of the medium. Even with the decline of the medium in favor to oils, artists like Marc Chagall (who exclusively used Sennelier) in the early 1900’s led to the medium’s revival, and it became more popular with the use by American painters such as Andrew Wyeth and Thomas Hart Benton. In 1892, chemist and fine arts purveyor Gustave Sennelier created his own line of Sennelier Egg Tempera paints, after extensive research into classical, authentic Renaissance formulas. Egg Tempera is a semi-opaque, water-soluble and permanent painting medium used for fine art painting and restoration (and can even be used as an underpainting for oil paints). Unlike oils, egg tempera does not age or yellow, due to being egg emulsion-based instead of oil based. The egg emulsion recipe binder produces a satin-matte finish that is water resistant when dry, and is thinned with water or egg tempera medium when painting. Unlike oil paint, egg emulsion binder is stiffer and more brittle, so it does not lend well to impasto painting techniques. Traditionally, due to the brittle nature, egg tempera is best used on wood or canvas panels, or heavy primed paper that has been mounted on a hard surface. Note: Sennelier recommends artists give their finished egg tempera works a coating of charcoal or pastel fixative before applying a final oil paint picture varnish, to seal and protect the work. Jacquard Dye Additive Soda Ash Dye Fixer 5 lb BagSave Up to10%Off list…Painting, stamping, or screen printing * Tie-dye, shibori, and ice dyeing * Low water immersion dyeing * Batik, printing, and direct painting * Direct painting or printing applications * Surface design Sodium Alginate SH: Sodium Alginate SH is a seaweed derivative used to thicken dyes for painting,… Essential chemicals for the dyeing process! Jacquard offers several necessary chemicals that complement their Acid and Procion MX dyes. Sodium Alginate SH is used to thicken dyes for painting, stamping, or screen printing. Citric Acid is a mild, odorless, powdered acid that helps fix acid dyes to protein-based fibers. Soda Ash promotes the chemical reaction between Procion MX fiber reactive dyes and cellulose fiber. The humectant Urea attracts moisture from the air and slows the tie-dye process, providing more time for the dye to process and generate deeper shades. You can use Synthrapol® an industrial-strength, pH-neutral liquid detergent as a wetting agent, or wash your decorated fabrics with it. It is essential to practice studio safety when using dyes and chemicals. Please keep dyes, paints, and chemicals away from children and avoid unnecessary skin contact. Key Features: * Powdered chemicals * Complement Acid and Procion MX dyes * Sodium Alginate SH will thicken dyes * Citric Acid is used to fix acid dye * Soda Ash is used to fix Procion MX dye * Urea enhances Procion MX colors * pH-neutral detergent and wetting agent Perfect For: * Fabric dyeing * Painting, stamping, or screen printing * Tie-dye, shibori, and ice dyeing * Low water immersion dyeing * Batik, printing, and direct painting * Direct painting or printing applications * Surface design Sodium Alginate SH: Sodium Alginate SH is a seaweed derivative used to thicken dyes for painting, stamping, or screen printing. When working with thicker fabrics, use a thinner consistency of dye solution to guarantee dye penetration. Instructions: Mix 1 quart water with ¼ cup Urea. Then, add two teaspoons Sodium Alginate SH for hand painting or four teaspoons Sodium Alginate SH for screen printing. Slowly sprinkle Sodium Alginate SH over water/Urea mix. Stir constantly for 10 minutes, or mix in a blender until smooth. Let stand for 1 hour, then stir again. The solution may be stored in a refrigerator for a few months. Soda Ash: Soda Ash dye fixer is a mild alkali that promotes the chemical reaction between Procion MX fiber reactive dyes and cellulose fiber. It is also known as sodium carbonate, washing soda, or salt soda. Soda Ash is necessary to activate and set Procion MX dye. For tie-dye (pre-soak method): Use one cup per gallon of warm water. Soak fabric in the mixture for 20 minutes. Squeeze/wring out the excess solution by hand. Do not rinse out. For immersion dyeing: Use 1/4 to 1/3 cup per three gallons of water. Add to dye bath per instructions. Dyeing cellulose fibers in a washing machine: Use 2-3 cups per load. Dissolve in one-quart hot water. Slowly add to dye bath in washer per instructions. Synthrapol®: Synthrapol® is an industrial-strength, pH-neutral liquid detergent used as a pre and after wash for dyed or painted fabrics. Synthrapol® can also be used as a wetting agent for fabric dyes and paints. The unique liquid detergent keeps loose dye pigment suspended during washing which prevents back staining and helps remove excess color. Pre wash: Prewashing fabric with Synthrapol® to remove oils, waxes, starches, and sizings helps ensure an even dye job and reduces the risk of blotchy color. Directions: Add three tablespoons Synthrapol® per 8 lb washing load. For cotton and other cellulose fibers, add two tablespoons soda ash. Wash for at least 10 minutes using hot water, and then rinse thoroughly. After wash: After dyeing or painting, rinse the fabric in cold water and then wash for at least 10 minutes using three tablespoons Synthrapol® per 8 lb wash load. Use hot water for cotton, cool to warm water for silk and wool, and then rinse thoroughly in cold water. Wetting Agent: Adding Synthrapol® to a dye bath or fabric paint can increase color penetration. When dyeing wool and other hard-to-wet fibers, add 2 to 3 drops of Synthrapol® per 5 lb fabric. To increase fabric paint coverage on hard-to-wet textiles, add 1 to 2 drops Synthrapol® per 2 fl oz of fabric paint. Citric Acid: Citric Acid is a mild, odorless, powdered acid that helps fix acid dyes and exhaust dye baths. Add one tablespoon of Citric Acid to the dye bath per 1 lb of fabric. Do not pour directly onto cloth. If further exhaustion of dye bath is necessary, add a little bit more. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of eye contact, flush immediately with water for at least 15 minutes. Keep out of reach of children. Urea: Urea is a humectant that attracts moisture from the air and slows the drying process; therefore, it allows more time for the dye to react with the fiber and helps develop deeper shades. Most artists use Urea when applying dye solutions directly to fabric or hand painting. Urea can be used with Sodium Alginate thickener for screen printing, direct painting, or tie-dye. Add one tablespoon Urea per 8 fl oz of dye solution (¼ cup per one quart of dye solution). See More

The ancient art of encaustic painting is brought into the 21st century with this excellent collection of handmade encaustic grounds, mediums, and raw materials from R&F! Enhance your encaustic paintings or make your own mediums to your specifications with this selection of fantastic ingredients. * Encaustic Gesso - This water-based ground is a modern version of the traditional gesso mix of rabbit skin glue and chalk. Specially formulated for encaustic painting, with a lower proportion of acrylic binder to solids, making it a more absorbent and receptive surface for wax-based paints. A quick and easy brushable white gesso. Specially formulated white ground for encaustics. * Encaustic Medium - Perhaps the most essential encaustic supply, Encaustic Medium is a blend of beeswax and damar resin, and is used to increase transparency and extend encaustic paints. It is important to use Encaustic Medium with your paints, as using only beeswax will reduce stability and produce a bloom on the painting that is only removable with heat. Available in either block or pellet form. Increases transparency and extends encaustic paints. * Impasto Modeling Wax - This heavy body wax medium is made from a mix of microcrystalline wax and beeswax. It is excellent for thick structural application, casting, carving, layering, and modeling. As Impasto Wax has a higher melting point than Encaustic Medium, you can apply standard encaustics over it without easily blunting sculptural shapes. Use for thick encaustic paint application and sculptural styles. * Damar Resin Crystals - A hard, clear resin from deciduous trees, Damar Resin Crystals are used to create encaustic mediums and paints. When mixed with beeswax, damar resin creates an encaustic binder that is stronger and more durable than beeswax alone, and also serves to raise the melting point of the wax. Damar is also used to create traditional oil painting mediums and varnishes. * White Beeswax (Pellets) - This natural beeswax has been whitened by mechanical filtration, instead of standard chemical bleaching, which can lead to negative pigment reactions and break wax down. Use White Beeswax as an ingredient in creating encaustic mediums and paints, along with Damar Resin, or as an initial priming layer for paper or board. Note that beeswax used alone in encaustics (without damar) is not as stable and is apt to bloom (become foggy). Use with damar resin to create encaustic paints and mediums. * Soy Wax (Pellets) - Made from partially hydrogenated soybean oil, Soy Wax is an environmentally friendly choice for cleaning encaustic brushes and tools. Unlike paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum products, Soy Wax is non-toxic, biodegradable, and made from an easily renewable resource. Use melted Soy Wax to remove color from painting materials, then wash tools or brushes in soapy water. Eco-friendly cleaning wax. See More
