Centurion Deluxe Oil Primed 24"x36" Linen Canvas .67" Deep (Box of 6)Save Up to64%Off listWhite Master Quality Archival Deluxe Stretched Canvas! Superb Performance And Color Retention! Exclusive OP Enhanced Oil Priming! As an oil painter, it is important to work on oil primed surfaces. First, oil on oil will provide the best chemical bond for the paint layers that go on, afterwards. Secondly, gesso are acrylic based, and either repel oil if they have too high of a resin base, or absorb the oil too much if it is too matte, making color sink and look dull and lifeless. Oil priming allows the color to sit cleanly and brightly on the surface, with refraction of the white from below. Centurion’s affordable (OP DLX) oil primed canvas is a great way to start painting with not only an oil primer, but the luxurious texture and archival tradition of linen! Exclusive OP enhanced oil priming! Sennelier Oil Pastels Cardboard Box Set Seascape (Set of 6)Save Up to45%Off listAssorted Colors The world's finest oil pastels, made with high-quality pigments The world's finest oil pastels were originally created in 1949 by Henri Sennelier for Pablo Picasso. Picasso, a frequent patron of Henri's art supply shop across from the Louvre, was looking for a vibrant colored pastel he could use to paint on anything, giving examples of wood, metals, paper, canvas, etc. Picasso enjoyed the immediacy of children's crayons and soft pastels but wanted to be able to use their freer, gestural qualities on all surfaces and wanted them to be professional quality and lightfast. Sennelier's first oil pastels have since been the hallmark and long-time standard of the medium. Creamy, lightfast, and vibrant, Sennelier Oil Pastels use the same high-quality pigments and high pigment loads as their other lines, combined with a pure, synthetic binding medium and mineral wax. As the binding medium does not oxidize, it will not jeopardize the artwork's film stability or surface. They are acid-free, so there is no need to prime any surface as a preventative barrier for protection against deterioration from acid. The neutral pH mineral wax provides a remarkably creamy texture that will never harden or yellow, thus providing excellent adhesion to any support without ever fearing cracking. They may be thinned with spike lavender oil, turpentine, or mineral spirits to make washes or soften drawing strokes or blended with the Transparent Blending Medium stick for a wide array of effects. They are the ideal medium for artists on the go, as sets can be taken on airplanes without any restrictions since they contain no solvents or liquids like tubed paints. The traditional and La Grande sticks come in over 120 vibrant colors, including iridescent, metallic, and fluorescent colors. Sennelier's sets offer assorted colors dedicated to drawing landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, both in sturdy Cardboard and Wood Boxes, perfect for gift-giving or extensive travel. Sennelier Oil Pastels are available in both Standard (2 9/16" long x 3/8" diameter) and La Grande (5" long x 3/4" diameter) sizes. Sets can easily be replenished with individual pastels as you finish a stick! Key Features: * Cardboard box & Wood box sets * Compatible with all media * Can be applied to most surfaces such as paper, canvas, wood, or metal * Great for mixed media works * Highly pigmented, outstanding opacity and lightfastness * Draw on virtually any surface! * Unlike oil paint, substrates do not require priming * Soft, creamy application of color * Available in open stock of 120 vibrant colors (including iridescent, metallic, and fluorescent colors) Perfect For: * Sketching in color * Mixed Media Artists * Professional Artists * Plein Air - no need to lug brushes, solvents, palette, etc.! * Beautiful wood box sets make perfect gifts! Paris Oil Primed Artists' 24x36" Linen Canvas, Box of 3Save Up to77%Off listWhite Premium Heavy Duty European Style and Quality Linen - The ultimate stretched linen canvas for oil color artists! Beginning with only the finest quality long-yarn linen fibers, Paris canvas is woven into a medium weight fabric with a 42 TPI warp and 40 TPI weft. The linen is hand washed and pumiced to a lovely even surface, then coated with a layer of glue sizing and three coats of archival, non-yellowing, off-white oil primer, and is hand-sanded between coats for ideal adhesion. This oil primer is specially formulated to produce beautiful results with oil paints: as it is non-absorbent, the oils in the paint are allowed to sit up on the surface, making for luminous, refractive effects only possible with oil paints used on the proper ground. Once primed and dried, the canvas is stretched onto an innovative designed solid pine stretcher bars — instead of the standard tongue-and-groove join of regular stretcher bars, these bars feature slot-lap joins that are far less likely to go out of square. In addition, the 1" deep by 2-1/4" wide stretchers offer more support to the canvas, as the bulk of the size is in the width. Larger size canvases also feature 3/4" deep by 2-1/4" wide cross braces for added support. * Premium, classic European-style stretched linen canvas * Texture of the surface is in the medium range * Linen is hand-washed and pumiced for a fine surface * Luxurious non-absorbent, non-yellowing, off white oil primer * Bars feature slot-lap joins that are far less likely to go out of square * 1" deep by 2-1/4" wide stretchers offer more support to the canvas * Larger size canvases also feature 3/4" deep by 2-1/4" wide cross braces for added support * Hand-sanded between coats for excellent adhesion * Innovative stretcher and cross bar system stays square * Meticulously inspected at each stage of manufacture * The finest painting support for oil colors, crafted without compromise! The canvas is wrapped onto the stretchers and tacked along the sides with traditional copper tacks, a method that distributes the stress of the canvas more securely and ensures the strength of the stretching over time. The overlapping canvas corners are not cut, but folded carefully, and excess canvas is stapled onto the back of the stretcher frame, making for easy re-stretching if ever necessary. Once finished, each canvas is individually inspected and only once inspection is passed is it stamped with the Paris logo on the back of the product. Finally, cardboard corner protectors are added to prevent damage in shipping or storage, so the canvas that arrives to you is perfect in every way. Key Features:* Finest medium weight long yarn linen canvas* Weight: 10.3 oz - Really Strong Linen* Heavy duty 1" D x 2-1/4" W pine stretchers* Interlocked stretcher joint keeps canvas square* Copper tacks along outer edge, stapled on back* 1 layer of glue sizing and 3 coats of fine oil primer* Includes 8 wood tightening pegs* Corrugated corners for protection during transport Perfect For:* Brilliant results with oil colors* Archival works designed to last* Excellent adhesion of oils in thick or thin layers* Easy re-stretching if ever necessary* Adding a charming, classic, hand-made quality* The finest old world, European style* Achieving a luminous, refractive effect in oils If you are an oil color artist looking for the highest quality linen surface for your paintings, look no further than new Paris Oil Primed Artists' Linen Canvas. Centurion Deluxe Oil Primed 24"x36" Linen Panel, 3 PackSave Up to84%Off listWhite Master Quality Archival Deluxe Linen Panels! Superb performance and color retention! Exclusive OP enhanced oil priming As an oil colorist it is important to work on oil primed surfaces and not universal primed surfaces. The reason is that universal primed surfaces are semi-absorbent. Gesso is absorbent even if it is plate smooth. The paint does not get absorbed as much and sits on the surface more making it easy to blend and manipulate. Granted it is not highly absorbent but the fact remains that some oil will get into the primer and flatten the image. You can get around this by using an under-painting oil ground on top of the surface of a universal ground canvas but this is very time consuming and expensive. Unlike universal ground, our oil priming chemically bonds with the oil paint and is non-absorbent allowing the paint to sit up on the surface with the correct refraction quality of the oil binder. If you use any high-quality oil color we urge you to use an oil primed surface and now we make it affordable! Exclusive OP Enhanced Oil Priming! Centurion Deluxe Professional Oil Primed Linen Panels, specifically designed for oil painters. Superb receptive surface accepts even the thinnest oil color lay down without fragmenting on the surface and is a permanent surface as colors adhere better on it than any other oil primed canvas on the market today! It's heavy, quality wood, with closed, seamless corners reinforced from the back, and the finish is immaculate. Hand-gilded and varnished. Thick wood, which holds screws exceptionally well, and you don't have to worry about screws piercing through to the front. Plus, the frames include hanging hardware such as screws, D-rings, and wire. I also like that the frames are packaged well for safe arrival: each frame has cardboard corners, is wrapped in a bubble wrap sleeve, and is then enclosed inside a made-to-fit cardboard box (which is super handy for shipping your paintings in later). These are not cheap frames, but if you have a special piece that needs to go into a top-tier show or gallery, feel confident when you order these. This is the best frame Jerry's sells. You won't find a better frame for the price." - Billie W See More

Mount Vision Soft Pastels Individual - 270/GoldenrodSave Up to38%Off listYellow Beautiful, hand-made soft pastels! Mount Vision Handmade Soft Pastels consist of the highest quality pigments with the addition of chalk, talc, or clay and binders. Various combinations, depending on pigment, create different handling properties. The Mount Vision Pastel Company was founded in 2000, by artist Karl Kelly (a former paint maker for a small oil paint company). Handmade in small batches in Mount Vision, New York, the pastels possess a wonderfully soft and buttery feel. The pigment easily releases to the pastel surface with little resistance, allowing layers to build without becoming slick. Mount Vision Handmade Soft Pastels are consistently tested to achieve the best feel and color intensity for each pastel color. Mount Vision utilizes both traditional and synthetic pigments, which make great substitutes for traditional painting pigments that are health hazards to use in pastels (such as cadmiums, cobalts, etc.) Mount Vision's manufacturing process is simple and straightforward, creating a truly handmade product with great love and care by dedicated craftsmen. First, the pigments and chalks(or other binder) are weighed out on a scale, and then placed in an industrial sized mixing bowl. The mixture is fully mixed to the consistency of cookie dough, and then put through a sausage stuffer, where it is extruded onto wood boards. The boards are placed outside to dry the long pastel lines a little, to firm them slightly before handling. Once ready, the pastel lines are cut to size and then carefully rolled by hand to create a more uniform shape. The finished pastels are then placed on a drying rack to cure before hand labeling. Key Features:* Created from the finest traditional and synthetic pigments* Handmade by craftsmen in small batches in the U.S.* Pastels possess a soft, “buttery” feel in use* No hazardous pigments used Perfect For:* Serious Pastel Artists* Artists supporting U.S. Made manufacturers* Pastelists desiring softer pastels* Handmade pastel aficionados The beauty of Mount Vision’s color selection and color values is by other manufacturers that make a handmade product. Drawing on his extensive painting and printmaking background, Karl Kelly carefully designed the color palettes and selections to create every color imaginable a pastelist could imagine, from the palest color values to the most vibrant brights and darkest darks. Sold in both open stock individually and as sets. Health and Safety Statement from Mount Vision Pastel Company: If you have any Health and Safety questions please do not hesitate to Call 888 413-2009. Your health is our biggest concern. At Mount Vision Pastels we use no heavy metal pigments such as Cobalt or Cadmium. Because of the nature of pastels, i.e.. drawing directly with the pigment with very little binder, I question the use of these pigments. With the advances in the manufacture of synthetic pigments I feel that there are alternatives available for use that will serve the artist as well without the possible side effects. That said probably the biggest concern for pastelists is the pigment dust created by them. Whenever possible it is better to clean dust with a wet rag, sponge, or paper towel than to sweep it up (which causes more dust). Care should be taken if using a vacuum as often the pigment is finer than the bag and can blow through causing quite a dust storm. See More

See Videos for Techniques Key Features:* Great for pastel washes, backgrounds and under paintings* Use for dry-in-dry techniques - mix and blend like paint* Ultra thin "glazing" layers won't overfill the "tooth"* Control painterly effects, from intense to delicate pastel marks* Blend and apply dry color like fluid paint* Can be mixed and applied like paint Perfect For:* Painting & Drawing* Painting (with & without pastel sticks, pencils and other media* Drawing – for sketching & blocking-in drawings* Subtractive (reductive) techniques – tone paper with PanPastel then subtract drawing using an eraser* Underpaintings e.g. initial sketch for paintings* Backgrounds e.g. for colored pencils* Color studies prior to painting in other media e.g. oils* Use PanPastel to Enhance Watercolor Paintings Which surfaces should I use with PanPastel? An important characteristic of PanPastel Colors is that they work well on SO many different surfaces - from very low tooth to high tooth. E.g. from delicate surfaces through to toothy pastel (sand-paper) surfaces and everything in between…drawing papers, pastel papers, canvas, vellum, watercolor papers, print-making papers, cardstock, digital/ink-jet papers (matt) etc. Also, because they are not wet, PanPastel Colors don’t cause lightweight papers to “buckle”, and the Sofft sponge tools are gentle on delicate papers such as Japanese handmade papers. Each artist normally gravitates towards his or her own preferred surface. Don’t limit yourself – experiment! Some examples of how PanPastel looks on different surfaces are shown at our substrates page. Our gallery also shows the variety of surfaces being used by artists with PanPastel. See More
