Pre-sharpened premium pencils allow for great blending, layering and shading with each other. The soft, vibrant colors are easily painted with a brush to create seamless watercolor effects. One of the most often overlooked qualities of a pencil is the wood used to encase the lead. However, this is as important as the lead itself. Many lower cost colored pencils use soft or cheap woods. You can notice this when sharpening. Unfortunately, if you have purchased such a set, you know this already. Cezanne® colored pencils use top quality hardwood that is easy to sharpen. The lead is bonded to the casement, so it is unbelievably break-resistant during the sharpening process. Although this technology has been around for years, many of the cheap brands don’t use it because it costs more money. Often the barrel finish is widely overlooked.
