To use the burnisher, apply moderate pressure and move the tool with small, slow, consistent strokes. The right amount of pressure is developed with practice. Too much pressure will rub off the leaf.
It is important to keep the stone clean. The smallest of scratches on the stone can damage the gold leaf as it is burnished. The oil from your fingers can also cause build up on the Agate stone. Before each use, breathe on the stone and buff with a soft cloth like silk or microfiber.
Keum-Boo (attached gold) is an ancient Korean jewelry technique. This method uses heat to fuse gold leaf to sterling silver or other metals. Agate burnishers are used to buff and brighten the resulting jewelry pieces.
