It adjusts by using a manual knob. This easel is an "A" Frame design which also makes this easel very sturdy to work on. The shelf that this easel has is 24 inches wide This easel can tilt forward up to 30 degrees for doing pastel works. This easel can also fold flat for easy storage. The painting surface on this easel cannot lay flat for doing water color paintings.
