Lesson #1

Core: Flowers come in all sorts of shapes and colors, each with unique petals. Students will begin by following along with how to draw an arrangement of flowers, learning to look closely at their subject and the unique shapes of individual petals. They will color in their floral arrangement with watercolors, taking into consideration color temperature with foreground and background. Core Supply Kit >

Lesson #2

Core: Nothing beats a fun day at the beach! Students will begin by following along with how to draw a sea turtle with oil pastels. They will then divide the shell up into different sections to create different patterns with spots, swirls, wavy lines, etc. – Anything they can think of! They will then color in their drawing with watercolor paint. Core Supply Kit >

Lesson #3

Core: Students Follow along in this video to learn how to draw a fun feline! Students will follow along to draw a cat, learning to use basic shapes and draw through a figure to create a final picture. They will then finalize their drawing by outlining and coloring it in with markers. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version: Students will add more detail to their cat drawing by filling in details in the background, learning about different coloring techniques with marker. Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #4

Core: The same object will look smaller the farther away it becomes. In this lesson, students will learn about scale/perspective. The lesson will begin by following along to draw a mountain scene with a foreground and background forest. Students will then color and fill in their piece with watercolor colored pencils. Advanced/Extended Version: Students will experiment adding water with their watercolor picture to create unique effects. Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #5

Core: Learn how to draw man’s best friend in this fun lesson! Students will learn to draw a colorful dog using basic shapes and drawing through to complete their character. They will learn how to create the illusion of fur without having to draw individual hairs by adding patterns (spots with jagged edges) to their drawing. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version: Students will complete their background by imitating the shapes they created as spots of fur in their initial dog drawing. Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #6

Core: Be inspired by the works of abstract artists such as Pablo Picasso. Students will follow along to learn how to create a self-portrait with basic shapes. They will then follow along to color in their portrait with colored pencil, taking on the challenge of using a different color for each section within their picture. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version: Students will break apart their background with different lines and patterns, finalizing it by coloring it in with colored pencil. Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #7

Core: Nothing beats the imagery of a country silhouette as the sun is setting over the horizon! Students will learn about silhouettes, gradients, and lighting effects. They will begin their piece by creating washes of color in watercolors to create a sunset gradient. When dry, they will follow along to apply oil pastels to create tree and fenced yard silhouettes. Lesson #8

Core: Join us as we learn about the marvelous techniques used by Vincent van Gogh! Students will follow along to create their own rendition of the famous painting, Starry Night. They will follow along to create a background of cool-colored washes, and complete their scene in oil pastels using van Gogh's post-impressionistic style. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version: (Also Using Acrylics) Students will use the same technique they learned using acrylic paint to add more details to their drawing. Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #9

Core: Students will follow along to learn how to create a carved pumpkin scene by drawing a composition of pumpkins, coloring it in with colored pencil. They will learn about creating depth in an image by adding curved sections to their pumpkin. They will also learn to add depth to a stylized carved grin in their foreground pumpkin. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version: (Also Using Acrylics & Soft Pastels)Students will continue to elaborate on depth in their drawing by adding an added layer of shadow in colored pencil. They will then add more detail with vine and leaf motifs in acrylic, and finish by giving their foreground jack-o-lantern a beaming glow with soft pastels.Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #10

Core: Radial designs are all around us! Students will learn what radial design is, as well as how to identify radial designs that occur/appear all around us. They will also learn to create a transfer by placing down a layer of oil pastels, taking a second sheet placed on top and drawing a pattern, revealing the final image underneath. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version:(Also Using Mungyo Gallery Soft Pastels Set of 15) Students will take the radial designs they have created one-step further by practicing techniques to color in their design with soft pastels. Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #11

Core: Everyone will have a hoot following along with this lesson! Students will learn how to draw stylized owl sitting on a tree branch in marker and colored pencil. They will learn about graphic/stylized imagery and different types of representation. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version: (Also Using Soft Pastel) Students will create a background for their owl in soft pastels, focusing on creating the illusion of depth and perspective.Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #12

Core: The weather is changing, and so are the leaves! Students will follow along to create a tree trunk in oil pastel, adding stylized details of bark. They will then use another sheet of paper to create leaves in watercolor colored pencils, have their parent’s help them cut the leaves out, and apply them to the original tree drawing. Advanced/Extended Version: Students follow along to add more details with shadows in their leaves with the watercolor colored pencils, then experiment with applying water to achieve different effects and see the colors really pop! Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #13

Core: Reach for the stars in this lesson! Students will learn about positive and negative space as well as composition. They will begin by drawing stars and cutting out/having an adult help them cut out stars to use as stencils. They will lay each star out on the paper, holding them while they go around the stencils with watercolor using a dabbing technique. They will take away the stencils to reveal star shapes in a hazy sky, and finish off the areas left in their background with a second watercolor using the same dabbing technique. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version: (Plus Acrylics & Soft Pastels) Once their piece is dry, students will go back into their background to add more details of stars in the positive space with acrylic paint. Lesson #14

Core: Join us as we embrace coziness in winter! Students will begin by creating a colored wash over their background. When dry, they will follow along to draw a cardinal wrapped up warmly in a scarf on a snow-covered branch. They will finish by outlining and coloring their image with markers. Core Supply Kit >
Advanced/Extended Version: (Plus Acrylics) Students will add more detail with acrylic paints into the body and scarf of the bird, as well as snow falling in the background, focusing on creating different textures. Advanced Supply Kit >

Lesson #15

Core: Who doesn’t love sweets?! In this lesson, students will learn about pop art movement, as well as the artist, Andy Warhol. Students will have an adult help them trim their bristol paper into a square, creating four even sections with their pencil and coloring in each with a different watercolor. They will then follow along to draw and color donuts with markers in the pop art style. Core Supply Kit >
