You may want to start with watercolor and gouache, reworking or removing areas then finishing off with permanent acrylics. With Yes! You can! Yes! Mixed-Media Canvas accepts watercolors, oils, acrylics, casein, permanent markers, alkyds, shellac, acrylic-based inks, airbrush, egg tempera, or any other media of your choice. It uses only the finest closed weaved cotton that is triple-primed to a super smooth surface. A versatile canvas that will accept any paint, ink, or marker you have in your studio. Perfect for portrait artists and realistic technique artists. A unique twist to this canvas is that you can draw with a permanent marker and use the lines to form a resist for your watercolors without feathering or smudging. Similar to the resists used for silk painting, you can paint on top of the drawing. For traditional watercolor painting, the color sits on the surface, allowing for easy lifting, scratching, and reworking the painted surface and even layering for unique effects using opaque or transparent colors. This surface is fantastic with virtually any acrylic-based paint, from heavy-body acrylics to acrylic-based inks to airbrush colors. Key Features: * 11oz weight, 100% unbleached cotton * Portrait smooth, fine weave surface * Triple-primed with acid-free special wet media primer * Perfect For: * Accepts all media! * Watercolors, Water-based inks, Airbrush colors * Acrylics, Markers, Acrylic inks * Oil, Shellac, and Alkyds The Portrait Cotton - Portrait artists and super realistic technique artists craved for a surface that was plate smooth but also affordable. Yes, is plate smooth using only the finest close weaved cotton and primed three times to a super smooth surface. So smooth you can easily draw on it. But here's the twist you can also paint on it with any media! The priming is the key. Imagine a canvas so versatile that it will accept any paint, ink or marker you have in your studio. Imagine the possibilities. The Watercolor Surface - Many watercolorists draw with permanent marker as they create their watercolors. With this surface you can draw right into your watercolor without feathering or smudging or you can paint on top of the drawing. A unique twist to this canvas is that you can draw with permanent marker and use the lines to form a resist for your watercolors. This is very similar to resists used for silk painting. It is quite amazing and interesting. For traditional watercolor painting the color sits right up on the surface and allows for easy lifting, scratching into the paint film, reworking the painted surface and even layering for unique effects. Use with opaque or transparent colors. This canvas works best with tube watercolor and provides rich, vibrant expressions. Acrylics and Watercolors - We don't know where art will lead you but you may want to start off playing with watercolors and gouache reworking or even removing areas then fine tuning and finally finishing off the top layers with permanent acrylics. Of course you don't need to use watercolors with your acrylics but you can if you want. You'll find this surface to be fantastic with virtually any acrylic based paint from heavy body to acrylic based inks to airbrush colors. Before applying watercolor, we suggest that you clean the canvas thoroughly with high-strength Isopropyl alcohol to remove any hand-oils from the canvas. Surface oils may have accumulated from manufacturing, packaging, or unwrapping the canvas. Cleaning the canvas should prevent the paint from beading up on the surface. See More

Mount Vision Soft Pastels Set of 25 - Flesh TonesSave Up to38%Off listPortrait Colors Beautiful, hand-made soft pastels! Mount Vision Handmade Soft Pastels consist of the highest quality pigments with the addition of chalk, talc, or clay and binders. Various combinations, depending on pigment, create different handling properties. The Mount Vision Pastel Company was founded in 2000, by artist Karl Kelly (a former paint maker for a small oil paint company). Handmade in small batches in Mount Vision, New York, the pastels possess a wonderfully soft and buttery feel. The pigment easily releases to the pastel surface with little resistance, allowing layers to build without becoming slick. Mount Vision Handmade Soft Pastels are consistently tested to achieve the best feel and color intensity for each pastel color. Mount Vision utilizes both traditional and synthetic pigments, which make great substitutes for traditional painting pigments that are health hazards to use in pastels (such as cadmiums, cobalts, etc.) Mount Vision's manufacturing process is simple and straightforward, creating a truly handmade product with great love and care by dedicated craftsmen. First, the pigments and chalks(or other binder) are weighed out on a scale, and then placed in an industrial sized mixing bowl. The mixture is fully mixed to the consistency of cookie dough, and then put through a sausage stuffer, where it is extruded onto wood boards. The boards are placed outside to dry the long pastel lines a little, to firm them slightly before handling. Once ready, the pastel lines are cut to size and then carefully rolled by hand to create a more uniform shape. The finished pastels are then placed on a drying rack to cure before hand labeling. Key Features:* Created from the finest traditional and synthetic pigments* Handmade by craftsmen in small batches in the U.S.* Pastels possess a soft, “buttery” feel in use* No hazardous pigments used Perfect For:* Serious Pastel Artists* Artists supporting U.S. Made manufacturers* Pastelists desiring softer pastels* Handmade pastel aficionados The beauty of Mount Vision’s color selection and color values is by other manufacturers that make a handmade product. Drawing on his extensive painting and printmaking background, Karl Kelly carefully designed the color palettes and selections to create every color imaginable a pastelist could imagine, from the palest color values to the most vibrant brights and darkest darks. Sold in both open stock individually and as sets. Health and Safety Statement from Mount Vision Pastel Company: If you have any Health and Safety questions please do not hesitate to Call 888 413-2009. Your health is our biggest concern. At Mount Vision Pastels we use no heavy metal pigments such as Cobalt or Cadmium. Because of the nature of pastels, i.e.. drawing directly with the pigment with very little binder, I question the use of these pigments. With the advances in the manufacture of synthetic pigments I feel that there are alternatives available for use that will serve the artist as well without the possible side effects. That said probably the biggest concern for pastelists is the pigment dust created by them. Whenever possible it is better to clean dust with a wet rag, sponge, or paper towel than to sweep it up (which causes more dust). Care should be taken if using a vacuum as often the pigment is finer than the bag and can blow through causing quite a dust storm. See More

Sennelier Oil Pastels Cardboard Box Set Seascape (Set of 6)Save Up to45%Off listAssorted Colors The world's finest oil pastels, made with high-quality pigments The world's finest oil pastels were originally created in 1949 by Henri Sennelier for Pablo Picasso. Picasso, a frequent patron of Henri's art supply shop across from the Louvre, was looking for a vibrant colored pastel he could use to paint on anything, giving examples of wood, metals, paper, canvas, etc. Picasso enjoyed the immediacy of children's crayons and soft pastels but wanted to be able to use their freer, gestural qualities on all surfaces and wanted them to be professional quality and lightfast. Sennelier's first oil pastels have since been the hallmark and long-time standard of the medium. Creamy, lightfast, and vibrant, Sennelier Oil Pastels use the same high-quality pigments and high pigment loads as their other lines, combined with a pure, synthetic binding medium and mineral wax. As the binding medium does not oxidize, it will not jeopardize the artwork's film stability or surface. They are acid-free, so there is no need to prime any surface as a preventative barrier for protection against deterioration from acid. The neutral pH mineral wax provides a remarkably creamy texture that will never harden or yellow, thus providing excellent adhesion to any support without ever fearing cracking. They may be thinned with spike lavender oil, turpentine, or mineral spirits to make washes or soften drawing strokes or blended with the Transparent Blending Medium stick for a wide array of effects. They are the ideal medium for artists on the go, as sets can be taken on airplanes without any restrictions since they contain no solvents or liquids like tubed paints. The traditional and La Grande sticks come in over 120 vibrant colors, including iridescent, metallic, and fluorescent colors. Sennelier's sets offer assorted colors dedicated to drawing landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, both in sturdy Cardboard and Wood Boxes, perfect for gift-giving or extensive travel. Sennelier Oil Pastels are available in both Standard (2 9/16" long x 3/8" diameter) and La Grande (5" long x 3/4" diameter) sizes. Sets can easily be replenished with individual pastels as you finish a stick! Key Features: * Cardboard box & Wood box sets * Compatible with all media * Can be applied to most surfaces such as paper, canvas, wood, or metal * Great for mixed media works * Highly pigmented, outstanding opacity and lightfastness * Draw on virtually any surface! * Unlike oil paint, substrates do not require priming * Soft, creamy application of color * Available in open stock of 120 vibrant colors (including iridescent, metallic, and fluorescent colors) Perfect For: * Sketching in color * Mixed Media Artists * Professional Artists * Plein Air - no need to lug brushes, solvents, palette, etc.! * Beautiful wood box sets make perfect gifts!
