Williamsburg Handmade Oil Paint - Davys Grey Deep, 473ml CanSave Up to30%Off listGrey Handmade Master Quality Oil Paints - Manufactured In The U.S.A! Getting the proper pigment is just the beginning! So much of the quality of oil paint is in the grinding. Each color is ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to that particular pigment. Some colors by nature will feel slightly gritty, others extremely smooth. For instance, Cerulean Blue will have a beautiful velvet, light-absorbing surface with an extremely strong covering power; Siennas, by comparison, are often chunky or gritty to allow light to travel through the vehicle, exposing rich golden or mahogany undertow instead of just heavy, dull browns. Pigments are ground in pure alkali-refined, ph balanced linseed oil, and made in batches no larger than 5 gallons at a time. This gives total control over the paint, much like late 19th-century French color makers. All materials are hand measured, and every ounce of paint is scrutinized. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors are then packaged in 37ml and 150ml non-reactive aluminum tubes. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors are used by the world’s finest artists, whose works can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MOMA in New York City, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Beaubourg in Paris. I've used all of those latter paints quite a bit, but casein has qualities all its own. It can be used transparently, but it has great opacity when you need it, something often lacking in acrylic. It's one of the oldest paint mediums, dating all the way back to the Egyptians – JAMES GURNEY" What is Casein? Casein (kay'seen) is a quick-drying, aqueous medium using a milk-based binding agent, and is one of the most durable mediums known to man. Nine thousand year old casein cave paintings have been discovered in Asia. Later, the medium was used by Byzantine, Roman and Renaissance artists, including the Old Masters. Known for their versatility and array of capabilities, casein paints can be used to create a variety of effects from the rich opaques of oil to thin watercolor washes. Because casein has an exceptional integrity of color and always dries to a perfect matte finish, it is unexcelled for art reproduction. The velvety matte finish can also be buffed to a satin sheen or varnished to produce a resemblance to oils. Over time, casein pigments become resistant to moisture and as history has proven, the medium has a durability and permanence which has easily stood the test of time. Because it dries quickly, it is possible to lay down a glaze and move onto the next stage within a few hours instead of waiting for days, or even months, as with oils. Can I mix casein with other mediums? Yes you can! Use casein over watercolor or gouache or as an underpainting for acrylic, pastel or oils. If using casein under oils, apply a barrier layer of Damar varnish over the casein before the oil paint. Casein can also be used under oils as an excellent underpainting medium. See More

M. Graham Oil Color 5oz - Zinc WhiteSave Up to40%Off listWhite M. Graham Oils - The only oil paint with Walnut Oil In the tradition of the masters, M. Graham artists’ oil paint is made with pure walnut oil for its brilliance, clarity, texture, and resistance to fading and yellowing. Working in small batches, we craft oil colors true to the roots of Renaissance painting: delicately free-flowing, solvent-free, and with no fillers or additives. Founded by artists, M. Graham Oils use only the finest vehicle, Walnut Oil to make some of the finest oil paints on the market! Walnut oil provides a "unique refractive index" and will not yellow over time, which allows for incredible paint brilliance. Walnut oil's unique body allows for an increased amount of pigment suspension in comparison with other oils, giving their paint higher color saturation and tinting strength, as a result. Manufactured with only the finest example of each available pigment source, their paints contain no fillers, extenders, or adulterants, which have negative effects on color and how the eye perceives it. Hand-crafted in small batches, attention is paid to adapting manufacturing processes to specific pigment "personalities" and requirements. Use of proper milling pressure for each pigment helps to achieve optimum pigment load and dispersion. Artists run the Quality Control Department at M.
