Varnishes are applied over dry paint films and have several purposes. The first and most important function is to protect the painting surface from the environment and protect the pigments from ultraviolet light. Secondly, varnishes can be used to change or unify a painting's surface sheen. Liquitex varnishes come in several different sheens, which can all be intermixed for a customized sheen. Our varnishes are either permanent or removable and can be applied to both flexible and rigid supports. Gloss Varnish - This water resistant varnish delivers permanent, high durable protection that is flexible and no-yellowing when dry. A 100% acrylic polymer varnish that is water soluble and can be thinned. High Gloss Varnish - This permanent water-based varnish produces a finish that is high gloss, clear, sandable and non-tacky. It increases depth and color intensity; AP non-toxic. Matte Varnish - Enhances color while adding a non-glare, low sheen finish. Satin Varnish - Apply over dry paint to protect surface and add a sheen finish. A non-yellowing medium with excellent leveling properties. Translucent when wet, dries clear. Soluvar Varnishes - Both are ideal for acrylic and oil colors. These mediums are solvent based, durable and non-yellowing. Maybe removed with mineral spirits or turpentine. One reveals a gloss finish, the other a matte. See More
