Claessens Linen Rolls provide artists with optimal professional quality in painting surfaces and craftsmanship. Each specific primed linen type passed through its own set of manufacturing steps and quality control, resulting in the premium painting surfaces Claessens is renowned for. After receiving the raw linens, quality control carefully inspects the entire surface for weaving faults. Abnormally thick threads are scrupulously removed. Next, two layers of synthetic adhesive are applied. Each layer is dried on the canvas in a warm-air oven. For oil primed canvases, zinc white is used as the first coat, bound with linseed oil; carefully applied to the glued linen with trowel-like knives. Grumbacher Final Fixatives are used to fix and protect dry media such as pastels, charcoal, pastel pencils, and graphite from smudging or rubbing off and come in glossy and matte finishes. Grumbacher Workable Fixative is a matte spray used to fix traditional dry media or dried designers gouache for additional layers of media.
