Schmincke has been producing its Horadam line of watercolors since 1881. Today the Horadam line includes 189 glorious colors, 152 of those colors have the highest lightfastness ratings of 4 or 5 stars. 95 of the colors are formed with a single pigment for perfect mixing effects. Each color has its own independently optimized recipe made of the finest pigments, Ox gall, and traditional binders. Schmincke uses only Kordofan Gum Arabic from the southern Sahara a natural resin binder. Horadam colors can be raised from a dried palette without developing globules. Colors that have dried on the palette can be awakened with a wet brush and reused an infinite number of times. Schmincke limits use of ONETZ (ox gall) as a dispersant. This helps the artist maintain full control of color, even on softer papers. Key Features: * Made in Germany * Highest possible lightfastness: 152 tones * 50 Granulating colors * Paint is reusable once dried on palette * Gum Arabic binding medium * Limited use of ox gall as a dispersant * High control of paint flow Perfect For: * Watercolorists * Professional artists with high standards * Illustrators * Color mixing * Plein Air painting * Soft sized papers Most of the Horadam watercolors are non-granulating and have an even paint flow, but 22 colors are granulating. You can spot granulating colors by the G stamped on the tube. Granulation is caused by: * Heavy pigment particles, like cobalt, settling in paper indentations. * Light pigment particles clustering together due to attraction. You can mix super granulating colors to create unusual color shifts. The granulating color shift will vary with the mixing ratio used. What is the right paper for granulation? The rule is: The rougher the paper, the greater the granulating effect. More absorbent papers need a little more water. Hot-pressed paper is unsuitable for granulating effects. Manufacturing pigments since 1664, Old Holland Classic Oil Colors are still considered today as one of the top oil paints in the world! Boasting artists like Van Gogh, Vermeer, and other Dutch Masters that used their pigments and paints, Old Holland uses only pure, cold-pressed linseed oil as a binder with the highest possible pigment loads, creating brilliantly concentrated paints that provide exceptional covering power, strength of color, and color intensity. All Old Holland Classic Oil Paints are completely lightfast except for the Madder Lakes and Cremnitz White, which are nearly lightfast. All Old Holland oils are manufactured using stone rollers only, as the colors of the paint will not change due to metal oxidations (which will alter Cadmium colors). All colors are completely free of cheap fillers and artificial dryers like other premium paints contain. Although Old Holland Oils initially may seem very expensive, the heavy concentration of pigment is actually an exceptional value, given the covering power of the paint and minimum amount needed for color mixing. One tube of their highest possible concentration of pigment equals the pigment contained in 2 to three tubes of other professional brands! Old Holland Classic Oil Colors come in 40ml and 225ml tubes. Cremnitz White, Flake White, Mixed White, Titanium White, and Zinc White can be purchased in 125ml and 225ml tubes, as well as 475ml cans. New Masters Acrylic Deluxe Wood Box Set - Deluxe Italian Mabef Wood… Highest pigment load acrylics with a 100% pure acrylic medium Designed to have little color shift from wet to dry, Old Holland New Masters Acrylics hold the maximum possible pigment content as well as look and feel of classic oils straight from the tube. In 1998, Old Holland’s chemists began research in the area of acrylic paint colors, with the goal to create an exceptional professional acrylic paint line that was worthy of carrying the Old Holland name. The project was dubbed "New Masters" as a long-held dream of the late owner Professor Theo de Beer, since Old Holland Oils were used by the old Dutch masters. He foresaw that the modern medium of acrylics would be used by the new masters of art. Key Features:* Full range of 168 colors* Highest pigment load* High impasto capabilities* Dries to a satin gloss* Oldest paint maker in the world!* Professional Acrylic Sets* All-Inclusive Deluxe Wood Box Set Perfect For:* Professional Acrylic Painters* Transitioning to acrylics from oils* Impasto painting to glazing* Feel of oil paints in an acrylic After testing more than 250 pigments and different mediums for the paints, they were incorporated into a series, irrespective of cost. Instead of the resins most of the major acrylics manufacturers incorporated into their products, Old Holland chose a 100% pure acrylic medium from a European manufacturer as the paint vehicle. More expensive than traditional popular resins, it gives New Masters Acrylics the same characteristics and texture of Old Holland’s Classic Oils. Utilizing traditional pigments like Genuine Manganese Blue, etc. to more modern lightfast anthraquinonoids and more, Old Holland produced acrylics that they tested with professional artists in various countries. By the end of 2005, the range of 168 colors was introduced, and consisted of opaque and transparent lightfast colors that were free of additives and fillers. Drying to a satin gloss, they can be used for a wide range of techniques from thick impasto to ultra-thin glazing. With an extensive selection of metallics, pearlescent, iridescent, and interference colors that are extremely lightfast, the high doses of pigment in the patented binding system ensure each color displays the unique characteristics of the individual pigment.
