An important characteristic of PanPastel Colors is that they work well on SO many different surfaces - from very low tooth to high tooth. E.g. from delicate surfaces through to toothy pastel (sand-paper) surfaces and everything in between…drawing papers, pastel papers, canvas, vellum, watercolor papers, print-making papers, cardstock, digital/ink-jet papers (matt) etc. Also, because they are not wet, PanPastel Colors don’t cause lightweight papers to “buckle”, and the Sofft sponge tools are gentle on delicate papers such as Japanese handmade papers. Each artist normally gravitates towards his or her own preferred surface. Don’t limit yourself – experiment! Some examples of how PanPastel looks on different surfaces are shown at our substrates page. Our gallery also shows the variety of surfaces being used by artists with PanPastel. See More

Today there are hosts of synthetic brushes available, but there has never been an acrylic brush able to outperform natural hair, that is until now. The motivation for creating the Berlin Synthetic Long Handle Brush series were artists just like you! We set out to eliminate all of the drawbacks associated with synthetic acrylic brushes. Specifically: synthetic hair that did not hold color or perform with the control and precision of natural hair. With the help of our German brush manufacturer and customer input, we created the Berlin series. As a result of our research, all Berlin brushes are interlocked using a special heat treatment process that creates a bounce-back memory effect and produces a brush with great shape and resistance. Berlin brushes use a blend of four different filament diameter sizes between .1mm to .28mm. The mix of filament hair is dependent on the size and shape of the brush. The synthetic filament hair is also treated and shaped so that each brush closely parallels natural hair in texture and tapers to create a very robust brush body with a soft feel at the tip. Each Berlin brush features a nickel-plated silver ferrule and a long Blue Turquoise handle made of wood from sustainable forests. The handles are dipped in a high-grade varnish four times, which helps to keep them in good condition if properly cleaned. Simply put, these brushes are a modern marvel that will allow you to translate your ideas through your hand and onto the canvas with unparalleled ease.
