Sennelier Oil Pastels Wood Box Set Assorted Colors, La Grande (Set of 36)Save Up to45%Off listAssorted Colors The world's finest oil pastels, made with high-quality pigments The world's finest oil pastels were originally created in 1949 by Henri Sennelier for Pablo Picasso. Picasso, a frequent patron of Henri's art supply shop across from the Louvre, was looking for a vibrant colored pastel he could use to paint on anything, giving examples of wood, metals, paper, canvas, etc. Picasso enjoyed the immediacy of children's crayons and soft pastels but wanted to be able to use their freer, gestural qualities on all surfaces and wanted them to be professional quality and lightfast. Sennelier's first oil pastels have since been the hallmark and long-time standard of the medium. Creamy, lightfast, and vibrant, Sennelier Oil Pastels use the same high-quality pigments and high pigment loads as their other lines, combined with a pure, synthetic binding medium and mineral wax. As the binding medium does not oxidize, it will not jeopardize the artwork's film stability or surface. They are acid-free, so there is no need to prime any surface as a preventative barrier for protection against deterioration from acid. The neutral pH mineral wax provides a remarkably creamy texture that will never harden or yellow, thus providing excellent adhesion to any support without ever fearing cracking. They may be thinned with spike lavender oil, turpentine, or mineral spirits to make washes or soften drawing strokes or blended with the Transparent Blending Medium stick for a wide array of effects. They are the ideal medium for artists on the go, as sets can be taken on airplanes without any restrictions since they contain no solvents or liquids like tubed paints. The traditional and La Grande sticks come in over 120 vibrant colors, including iridescent, metallic, and fluorescent colors. Sennelier's sets offer assorted colors dedicated to drawing landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, both in sturdy Cardboard and Wood Boxes, perfect for gift-giving or extensive travel. Schmincke Horadam Watercolor 140 Color Dot CardSave Up to40%Off listAssorted Colors Horadam Watercolors Outperform All The Rest! Schmincke has been producing its Horadam line of watercolors since 1881. Today the Horadam line includes 189 glorious colors, 152 of those colors have the highest lightfastness ratings of 4 or 5 stars. 95 of the colors are formed with a single pigment for perfect mixing effects. Each color has its own independently optimized recipe made of the finest pigments, Ox gall, and traditional binders. Schmincke uses only Kordofan Gum Arabic from the southern Sahara a natural resin binder. Horadam colors can be raised from a dried palette without developing globules. Colors that have dried on the palette can be awakened with a wet brush and reused an infinite number of times. Schmincke limits use of ONETZ (ox gall) as a dispersant. This helps the artist maintain full control of color, even on softer papers. Key Features: * Made in Germany * Highest possible lightfastness: 152 tones * 50 Granulating colors * Paint is reusable once dried on palette * Gum Arabic binding medium * Limited use of ox gall as a dispersant * High control of paint flow Perfect For: * Watercolorists * Professional artists with high standards * Illustrators * Color mixing * Plein Air painting * Soft sized papers Most of the Horadam watercolors are non-granulating and have an even paint flow, but 22 colors are granulating. You can spot granulating colors by the G stamped on the tube. Granulation is caused by: * Heavy pigment particles, like cobalt, settling in paper indentations. * Light pigment particles clustering together due to attraction. You can mix super granulating colors to create unusual color shifts. The granulating color shift will vary with the mixing ratio used. What is the right paper for granulation? The rule is: The rougher the paper, the greater the granulating effect. More absorbent papers need a little more water. Hot-pressed paper is unsuitable for granulating effects. It has a beautiful, tight weave that is perfect for detailed realistic techniques and more abstract applications. For portrait artists, three coats of priming sanded between layers would yield a very pleasing surface. #38 Linen – 66.9" wide; 14.1 oz. - This linen is about 10% heavier than the #42. It has a medium weave and texture and falls into our all-purpose range. You can use this linen for portraiture, but we generally do not recommend it for this purpose. This linen is ideal for all other realistic, representative, and modern expressions. #133 Linen – 82.67" wide; 15.17 oz. - This hearty linen has a robust weave and uniform surface. Perfect for expressive works and abstract pieces. #31 Linen – 90.55" wide; 17.99 oz. - The heaviest linen with a medium texture and weave. It is intended for large-sized works, but you can use it for any size piece. It weighs in at 17.99 oz. or 510 gms, which is heavier than any commercially produced pre-stretched linen canvas product on the market. #24 Jute – 74.8" wide; 24.51 oz. - Jute is a delightful departure from the smoothness associated with hemp and linens as it is delectably coarse, soft, and shiny with a beautiful golden color. The fiber lengths are incredibly long, so the strength of the jute is unrivaled. It has a large, coarse weave and is wonderful for glue-sizing, leaving the natural color of the canvas, or for traditional priming with oil or acrylic-based primers. #25 Hemp – 86.6" wide; 25.4 oz. - Hemp is for any artist looking for a heavyweight, durable fabric that is strong and soft. A robust, tight weave characterizes this fabric. The archival nature of hemp rivals that of the finest linen, but it is economical enough to use on the largest of paintings. See More
