Sennelier Egg Tempera - Ivory Black, 34ml TubeSave Up to35%Off listBlack A highly pigmented, professional tempera medium Sennelier Egg Tempera paint is a semi-opaque, water-soluble and permanent painting medium used for fine art painting and restoration (and can even be used as an underpainting for oil paints). Unlike oils, egg tempera does not age or yellow, due to being egg emulsion-based instead of oil based. Varnished egg tempera paintings are difficult to distinguish from oils due to their vibrancy and brilliance in how the pigment suspends in the emulsion. It is a popular medium with oil painters who seek a health alternative to the harsh and dangerous solvents involved with oil colors, as it requires nothing more than soap and water cleanup. Like their other paint lines, Sennelier Egg Tempera paints are professional quality pigments with the highest pigment loads possible. Key Features:* Classical painting medium* Water soluble, no need for solvents* Highly archival* Rich satin-matte finish* Highly pigmented paints* Authentic egg tempera made in the traditional manner* Use varnish over egg tempera paintings for an oil painting like appearance Perfect For:* Fine art painting, restoration, and icon painting* Underpainting for oil painters* Restoration Work * Icon Painting* Technical illustrative painting styles Intro Set of 5- Contains five 21 ml tubes including: Titanium White, Lemon Yellow, Rose Madder Lake, Ultramarine Blue, and Ivory Black Light Wooden Box Set Of 15 - Contains: One 34 ml tube of Titanium White, one 60 ml jar of Egg Tempera Binding Medium, a wooden palette, one metal palette cup, two brushes, a Flat #4 and a Round #5, 15, 21 ml tubes of Egg Tempera: Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Yellow Deep Genuine, Carmine, Cobalt Violet Hue, Emerald Green, Ivory Black, Lemon Yellow, Naples Yellow, Permanent Intense Red, Prussian Blue, Raw Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Vermilion, Viridian, and Yellow Ochre. Capable of creating detailed and complex effects, the medium of egg tempera can be traced back as early as ancient Greece. During the early Italian Renaissance, egg tempera reached its’ zenith, and was the predominant medium for religious icon panel paintings done between the 12th and 15th centuries. Even with the rise in popularity of oils beginning in the 15th century, Renaissance masters such as Michelangelo and Botticelli continued to prefer the deep luminosity of the medium. Even with the decline of the medium in favor to oils, artists like Marc Chagall (who exclusively used Sennelier) in the early 1900’s led to the medium’s revival, and it became more popular with the use by American painters such as Andrew Wyeth and Thomas Hart Benton. In 1892, chemist and fine arts purveyor Gustave Sennelier created his own line of Sennelier Egg Tempera paints, after extensive research into classical, authentic Renaissance formulas. Egg Tempera is a semi-opaque, water-soluble and permanent painting medium used for fine art painting and restoration (and can even be used as an underpainting for oil paints). Unlike oils, egg tempera does not age or yellow, due to being egg emulsion-based instead of oil based. The egg emulsion recipe binder produces a satin-matte finish that is water resistant when dry, and is thinned with water or egg tempera medium when painting. Unlike oil paint, egg emulsion binder is stiffer and more brittle, so it does not lend well to impasto painting techniques. Traditionally, due to the brittle nature, egg tempera is best used on wood or canvas panels, or heavy primed paper that has been mounted on a hard surface. Note: Sennelier recommends artists give their finished egg tempera works a coating of charcoal or pastel fixative before applying a final oil paint picture varnish, to seal and protect the work. Artfix Belgian L64C Oil Primed Linen Roll, 85" x 5 ydsSave Up to63%Off listWhite Combine the exceptional archival nature of French Linen with the excellence of the ArtFix’s priming! For over 50 years the Narozni family has crafted premium artists' canvases in Provence, France, still hand produced and primed. Today, they have passed this knowledge to Chassis France, the French specialist manufacturing canvas and frames for over 60 years. The close attention to detail is what makes ArtFix a premium surface for the educated and discerning artist who chooses the very finest canvases for painting. In the world of flexible fabric painting substrates, linen has proven itself for generations as being the fiber that has long stood the test of time. Much stronger and more durable than cotton due to a longer natural thread fiber structure and strength without issues of shrinking and sagging, it can be woven in a thinner, tighter weave that weighs much less with much greater strength. Due to the nature of the fiber, the weave cannot be woven into a completely precise, machined-look texture like cotton, which creates a unique painting surface many artists covet. Long revered for their fine linens with their incredible surface priming, ArtFix combines time-honored European manufacturing methods of priming with modern chemistry. All linens (even unprimed) are double sized for protection against acids in oil paints, which allows uniform breathing of the linen under the painting to reduce paint film stress once the work is completed. Primed up to 4 layers (depending on the roll style), each layer is applied by hand and sanded. This effort of labor prevents peeling, flaking, and cracking of the primer, and makes for the most bond with fresh paint. This time-consuming process produces an unbelievable primed surface that painters become devotees to! Select from pre-sized raw, universal, and oil primed conservator’s grade linen rolls, and indulge in the ArtFix experience. Can’t decide? Try cut pieces of different styles to learn which is your favorite! Canvas Style Notes: "C" Styles - Lead-style Oil Primed: ArtFix’s specially formulated oil priming gives the traditional qualities of lead priming, without its toxicity. the unique absorbency allows oil paints to bite into the surface, increasing adhesion and depth of color. Colors glow from within when glazed on the surface. “C" Style rolls are highly recommended for all oils and alkyd paintings. "U" Styles - Universal Primed: ArtFix’s “U" style’s carefully formulated acrylic universal priming emulates many characteristics of oil-based primers, but maintains the durability and elasticity of acrylic priming. Unlike glossy acrylic primers, the surface is more matte and a bit more absorbent to promote exceptional adhesion to a variety of media. Excellent for works in oils, acrylics, and even drawing media (oil stick, pastels, charcoal, graphite), due to the absorbent surface. When mounted to a stiff surface, even brittle media like egg tempera and caseins work beautifully on the universal primed surface and smooth polyester texture. "G" Styles - Absorbent Ground: ArtFix’s “G" style priming is a single layer of an absorbent grey ground primer. Absorbent ground linen can be used to work with oils and acrylics where wash and staining effects are desired, as they will absorb into the ground. This style primer also works well with liquid acrylics, oil pastels, and other media that has absorbent needs to create proper adhesion. Unprimed: Pre-sized, ArtFix unprimed rolls are ready to accept whatever form of custom priming you desire, from clear or colored gessoes, oil priming, pastel primer, etc. Please see tech notes on each individual line item canvas for information on canvas type, weight, surface texture, media, priming information, and best uses for each canvas style to find what roll best suits your artistic techniques and needs. Key Features: * Conservation grade French Linen * hand-primed by skilled artisans * Universal, Oil, Absorbent Ground Primers * Pre-Sized Raw Linen options Perfect For: * Oil and Acrylic Painters * Professional and discerning Artists * Conservation Specialists * Devotees to ArtFix’s Priming Formulas See More
