Ampersand Duoframes for Painting Panels & Artwork

Ampersand Duoframes are ready-made frames for artist panels and artwork, featuring a versatile St. Ives style design. Display flat or cradled painting panels traditionally inside the frame window or float mount artwork on the frame face for a contemporary gallery look. Made from high-quality FSC-certified maple, one Duoframe can accommodate multiple artwork sizes and presentation styles.

Frame Artist Panels with Ampersand Duoframes

Ampersand Duoframes provide artists with a flexible way to frame paintings on flat and cradled panels. Their distinctive St. Ives style design supports two presentation methods: place artwork within the frame window for a traditional framed appearance, or mount artwork on the face of the frame to create a contemporary floating presentation.

Window Mounting vs. Float Mounting

Window mounting displays artwork within the Duoframe opening for a classic framed presentation. Duoframes accommodate artwork up to 1/4" thick when flat or up to 7/8" deep when cradled.

Float mounting places artwork larger than the frame window directly on the face of the frame, creating the appearance that the artwork is floating over the frame. This presentation works especially well for artist panels, small paintings and artwork where you want the edges to remain visible.

Please note: Float mounting requires adhesive, and glue residue may be difficult to remove from the face of the frame after the artwork is removed.

Choosing the Right Ampersand DuoFrames Size

Choose your Duoframe size based on the dimensions of your artwork and whether you plan to window mount or float mount it. For window mounting, the artwork fits within the frame opening. For float mounting, the artwork must be larger than the frame window so it can be mounted on the frame face. Use the Duoframe Size Chart to compare frame and artwork dimensions before selecting your frame.
