This wax medium has a higher content of Damar Resin than Enkaustikos Wax Medium, giving it a thicker consistency when liquified. It also has a sticky tack while drying for easy texture build-up and will stay pliable for longer than Wax Medium. Once cooled, however, XD Wax Medium is resistant to surface alterations and offers a glossy finish.

Enkaustikos blends their highest quality pharmaceutical grade beeswax with a translucent white microcrystalline wax to produce Impasto Wax. This allows artists to add dimension and sculptural effects to encaustic paintings. Microcrystalline wax is more flexible than paraffin wax, making it ideal for building up layers of textures. Microcrystalline wax melts at a higher temperature of 170°F - 180°F. When exposed to UV light, this wax surface will yellow, so it is important to paint over and encapsulate the impasto wax layer.

Enkaustikos Soy Wax is a natural by-product of soybeans and is an eco-friendly wax for cleaning brushes. Soy Wax is sold in an easy-to-melt flake form and has an off-white opaque appearance. Soy wax melts around 120°F, but heat below smoking temperatures. Do not overheat. Please note: Soy Wax is not for mixing with encaustic paints.
