Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Close to the Koh-I-Noor but softer I have drawn with 5.6mm sanguine drawing leads for over 25 years, back when they were manufactured (or marketed) by Koh-I-Noor. For me, they offer the perfect amount of control and tone value. These are a bit softer than I'm used to--and it could be just this 'batch'-- but they are still better than any alternative. If the product was as 'hard' as it used to be I'd give it 5 stars!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from My Personal Favorite Leads Cretacolor Drawing Leads are a dream to use. The holders are ergonomic, the leads flow smoothly. They come in various colors and shades. My drawing is better when using these leads. I would use nothing else to draw with, however and there is unfortunately a big however, with these leads. Quite often the leads come broken. Most often it is the sanguine dry. I would suggest not buying this or the variety package, as they have always contained many broken, unusable bits when purchased. At best I have only managed to save half of the leads in the box. I like these leads so much and I am so disappointed not to be able to get them in usable form I contacted the manufacturer in Austria. They referred me to their US distributor, who said basically find a local retailer. I have found a substitute for the sanguine dry, that is ok and order the others from Jerrys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from There is no competition Cretacolor Sanguine (dry) is the closest thing to red chalk that I can find. It has very consistent color and texture. Personally, I use the Sanguine with oil binder because it glides more smoothly and doesn't demand fixative.

This product is the purple-brown variety (which is similar to one type of natural red ochre and is actually closer to the color of dried blood than red bole), a color that can be had from many other sources, including Conte. For the orange-brown-rust color, try polychromos sanguine pastel 188.
