Gamblin Burnt Plate Oil #000 8oz BottleSave Up to40%Off listBrown True to historic working properties. Safer. More Permanent. Gamblin Oil Painting mediums offer a great deal more than simply extending oil colors. Mediums modify the working properties of oil color from the tube – from a fluid consistency for expressive mark making to a stiff paste for creating thick, crisp marks. Painting mediums also broaden the visual qualities of our colors – from increasing the transparency of paint layers, to creating a range of surface qualities, from high gloss to matte. Gamblin’s family of Galkyd painting mediums and Cold Wax Medium are formulated with Gamsol. We recommend only Gamsol for thinning these materials. Alkali Refined Linseed Oil - Processed from flax seeds. This linseed is the purest and lightest industrially produced variety. Cold Pressed Linseed Oil - Made from the first pressing of flax seeds without heat or chemicals of any kind. Cold Wax Medium - Made from natural white unbleached beeswax. Mix directly into colors. Cold Wax creates an ultra-thick, matte impasto. For greater shine and flexibility mix with Galkyd medium. "G-Gel" - Made from alkyd resin, Galkyd Gel is a colorless oil color additive that accelerates the drying rate of oil colors and enables artists to create thick transparent paintings with a moderate sheen. Galkyd Painting Medium - Alkyd based resin painting medium that thins oil paints and maintains a strong flexible paint film. Galkyd speeds the drying rate and is excellent for glazing providing an enamel like finish. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Painting Medium Lite No.2 - This low viscosity alkyd resin painting medium is a good replacement for traditional damar/ linseed oil/ turpentine combination mediums. Galkyd Lite dries within about 3 hours to a subdued gloss, and will maintain your brush strokes. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Slow Drying Medium - Especially formulated to thin oil colors and give painters extended working time. To use mix equal portions of medium with oil colors to paint wet for at least a day. Since this product should not be diluted you may want to purchase the larger size. Gamsol - Quality solvent and medium and for general oil painting. Gamsol is also an excellent studio and brush cleaner. Odorless Mineral Spirits -Gamsol is the safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise. Primary Uses for Gamsol - Thinning oil colors, Modifying painting mediums, Studio clean up.Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Gamvar - Conservation quality varnish for oil, acrylic and alkyd paintings. This resin varnish may be removed with a mild solvent and contains a UV stabilizer. Developed in association with the National Gallery of Art. Package makes enough varnish to cover 80 sq ft. Once varnish is applied surface will have a uniform gloss apperance. Neo-Megilp - When mixed into oil colors Neo-Megilp makes them richer and deeper and finished paintings have a luminous glow! Neo-Megilp will not darken or crack over time. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Oil Painting Ground - For strong, bright foundations of oil paintings. Requires only 2 coats. Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide and barium sulfate. Stiffer than traditional gesso. PVA Size - Use as a barrier size between linen or cotton canvas instead of rabbit skin glue. Remains flexible and won't yellow, shrink or swell. Poppy Oil - Poppy Oil's slow drying time may be useful for painters using "wet into wet" techniques. Adding 10% by volume poppy oil slows down the drying time of Gamblin Galkyd Painting Mediums. Rabbit Skin Glue - Gamblin's Rabbit Skin Glue is the traditional size for fabric support on panels. It seals porous fabric and isolates it from ground or oil paints. Stretching the canvas is easy, because the size shrinks as it dries. Safflower Oil- Gamblin's Safflower Oil is a pale, slow-drying oil. Safflower oil increases flow of oil colors and slows dry time. Use sparingly or mix with an equal amount of Gamsol to create a traditional slow-drying, low-viscosity painting medium. Solvent-Free Gel Medium - This unique, non-toxic blend of safflower oil and alkyd resin gives colors more flow and transparency, yet holds brushstrokes well. It has a moderately fast drying rate, increases gloss, and supports the broadest range of painting techniques with the least compromise across color, dry time, texture and mark-making. Contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Solvent-Free Fluid Medium- Gamblin's Solvent-Free Fluid Mediumgives oil colors more flow and transparency, It has a moderately fast drying rate that increases gloss. Made from safflower oil and alkyd resin, this medium is non-toxic and contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Stand Oil - Vacuum bodied heavy oil which can be used in painting and glazing mediums. Dries to an enamel like finish. Traditional Gesso - Gamblin's Traditional Gesso is a dry mixture of rabbit skin glue, gypsum, marble dust, and titanium dioxide. Paintings on gesso are more matte because of the high absorbency of traditional gesso. Wax Pastilles - Small beads of naturally white unbleached beeswax.* See More

…leaving minimal brush strokes. Stand oil is an inappropriate vehicle for making oil paint, but it makes an outstanding painting and glazing medium when diluted with turpentine and damar varnish. It yields a tough paint film without the yellowing tendencies of refined linseed oil. Available in 8oz. Improve transparency and gloss! Painting with buttery oils requires a medium that helps alter paint consistency for color mixing, blending, and glazing. DANIEL SMITH Oil mediums improve transparency and gloss and, depending on the formula, can decrease drying time. DANIEL SMITH Oil Mediums allow artists to extend their oil paints and waste less paint; this is especially true with DANIEL SMITH Original Oils, which are highly pigmented. With DANIEL SMITH Oil Mediums, you can expand the value of your highly pigmented paint event farther! Key Features: * Accelerate or slow drying time * Improve transparency and gloss * Outstanding working properties * Extend oil paints and use less paint * Available in 3 different sizes Perfect For: * Traditional oil paints * Blending and glazing * Maintaining consistency * Preserving gloss * Speeding up drying time * Increasing the flow of oil paint Refined Linseed Oil- Its capacity to add gloss and transparency and yield a tough, strong paint film has made linseed oil the most conventional binder in oil paint for centuries. It may cause some yellowing with age. Cold-Pressed Linseed Oil- The simplest form of natural oil, cold-pressed linseed oil, is lighter in color and yellows less than hot pressed or solvent extracted oils. DANIEL SMITH Cold-pressed Linseed Oil also creates a stronger film. Stand Oil– Stand oil, thicker than Linseed oil, prompts oil colors to gradually self-level as they dry, leaving minimal brush strokes. Stand oil is an inappropriate vehicle for making oil paint, but it makes an outstanding painting and glazing medium when diluted with turpentine and damar varnish. It yields a tough paint film without the yellowing tendencies of refined linseed oil. Available in 8oz. See More -

The difference is that additives don't contain acrylic binders (like mediums do), so you must follow the label and use them in correct proportions. Most mediums can be added to the paint in any amount until you've achieved the desired effect, but additives can weaken the color and adhesion of the paint when overused. GOLDEN offers these two additives, which are a useful addition to any painters studio. Wetting Agent: Formerly known as Acrylic Flow Release - an additive used to reduce the surface tension of the water in the acrylic emulsion, thereby increasing the slickness and flow of the paint. It is useful for achieving rich stains on a porous surface. Not for use by children. Retarder: an additive used to increase the open (drying) time of acrylic paints. Useful for wet on wet techniques and reducing skinning on the palette. Key Features: * Increase open time * Reduce the surface tension of acrylic emulsion * Improve the slickness and flow of paint * No acrylic binders * Use them in correct proportions * Click the yellow circle icon for product information Perfect For: * Acrylic painting * Minimizing paint waste * Classroom, home, and studio * Teachers and students * All acrylic-friendly surfaces The retarder does not contain binding agents. To ensure adhesion, the addition of Retarder should not exceed 15% (1:6)when mixed with colors or mediums. See More

GOLDEN Gloss Medium is a general-purpose liquid medium useful for creating glazes, extending colors, enhancing translucency, and increasing film integrity. The medium has a unique oil-like feel and resinous nature that promotes flow and leveling. GOLDEN Gloss Medium is also the best product for blocking Support Induced Discoloration, also known a SID, which is when contaminants are drawn into paints and mediums as they dry. You can protect your canvas or board from this phenomenon by applying GOLDEN Gloss Medium before starting an acrylic painting. SID contamination often goes undetected. In most cases, paints contain a strong enough color to conceal the yellowing. However, in a transparent glaze and especially in thick gel layers, SID becomes obvious. Gloss Medium medium works best when two or more coats are applied directly onto the support. Once dry, the canvas can then be primed and finally painted with less potential for discoloration. You can treat pre-primed canvases with Gloss Medium as well. Apply two coats to the surface, and follow with at least one layer of gesso to regain tooth. Key Features: * General-purpose liquid polymer * Oil-like and resinous viscosity * Promotes flow and leveling * Perfect For: * Creating thin, fast-drying glazes * Extending colors, enhancing gloss, and increasing film integrity * Blocking Support Induced Discoloration (SID) See More

We recommend using a natural oil-based soap and warm water afterward to complete the brush cleaning, moisturize the brush hairs and help preserve them. Ventilation: All essential oils/solvents should be used appropriately and with ventilation. Skin contact: As with all essential oils, you should always avoid skin contact, especially if you have skin issues. Skin contact for some people will not cause any problems, but because of the high concentration please be aware and take precautions when using Spike Oil or any other solvents. Allergies: Spike Lavender, in rare cases, can be considered an allergen, as are many essential oils like Tea Tree Oil, etc. So all products containing Spike (the solvent, mediums, and varnishes) see warnings regarding safety and clear directions for usage. The main reason this solvent is considered “safer” is because there are no known carcinogens or a lot of the health issues associated with Turpentine or Petroleum Mineral Spirits. However, like with all solvents when used in oil painting, you should have ventilation and limit skin contact. See More

Gamblin Oil Painting Ground 8oz CanSave Up to40%Off listWhite Makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings Gamblin Oil Painting Ground makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings. Gamblin Ground is formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide, and calcium carbonate – titanium dioxide gives opacity, while calcium carbonate gives tooth for strong adhesion. Gamblin Ground makes a brighter and less-absorbent ground layer compared to acrylic “gesso” – meaning that oil paint layers on top will better retain their color saturation. In addition, the lower absorbency allows for “reductive” underpainting techniques when painters need to wipe back to the white of the Ground. Key Features:* See video - Ground Application* Makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings* Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide, and calcium carbonate* Brighter and less-absorbent ground layer * Oil paint layers on top will better retain their color saturation* Lower absorbency * Thicker than acrylic gesso* Can be applied on top of acrylic gesso Because the percentage of pigments is so much higher than in acrylic “gesso”, painters need only apply TWO coats of Gamblin Ground instead of the recommended four coats of acrylic. Fabric supports should be sized with PVA Size before applying Gamblin Ground. Also, Gamblin Ground can be applied on top of acrylic gesso for a brighter white, less-absorbent ground layer. Gamblin Ground is thicker than acrylic gesso, and requires different application techniques See More

It creates a toothy surface similar to papers used with pastel and chalk. For an even rougher texture, Fine or Coarse Pumice Gel can be added. GOLDEN Pastel Ground for Pastel can also be tinted with acrylic colors for colored grounds. (Golden acrylics). GOLDEN Pastel Ground is a 100% acrylic medium designed to prepare surfaces for the application of pastels, charcoal and other art media where a coarse tooth is desired. It contains finely ground sand (silica) in a pure acrylic emulsion. Pastel Ground can be applied to paper, canvas, wood or any primed support. This allows almost limitless applications for media typically confined to standard papers. Key Features:* Sizes: 8oz, 32oz & 1 Gallon* Creates toothy surface similar to papers* Acrylic preparation for pastels* Fine or Coarse Pumice Gel can be added* Can also be tinted with acrylic colors Pastel Ground can be used as a toothy, gritty ground for many different media, including: Dry Media:* Soft Pastels* Graphite Pencils* Colored Chalks* Charcoal* Powdered Charcoal Water-based Media: * Water-Soluble Pastels* Colored Pencils* Pastel Pencils* Wax Crayons* Watercolor Pencils* Acrylic Paints Oil-based Media: * Oil Pastels* Oil Sticks* Paint Sticks* Ink Sticks* Pigment Sticks* Oil Paints GOLDEN Pastel Ground Application Thinning Due to the weight of the solids in Ground for Pastels, it is produced very thick, and does not come ready to brush-apply. Thin 20-40% with water to desired consistency. Application Apply with brush, paint-roller, spray equipment, squeegee or palette knife. Mix up only as much as is needed for one day"s work, as the solids will settle rapidly and be extremely difficult to mix back into suspension. Surface Preparation Non-absorbent surfaces should be abraded for increased adhesion. Prime with GOLDEN Gesso or other suitable primers (depending on substrate). Apply one or more coats of GOLDEN Pastel Ground to achieve the desired tooth. On paper, use heavier weight stock to avoid buckling. Allow ground to fully dry before applying media. Color Additions Pastel Ground can be blended with GOLDEN Acrylic Paints to achieve colored grounds. However, add minimal amounts of color since all additions of paint to Ground will decrease the tooth. GOLDEN High Flow Acrylics and Fluid Acrylics blend easily into the ground without thickening the product. High Load Acrylics have the highest pigment load and therefore provide the most color in the least amount of paint. Unless transparency is desired, select paints that are inherently opaque, such as the Pyrroles or earth colors. This will allow lower additions as well. Airbrushing thin layers of color after the ground has dried will give the strongest saturation of color to the ground without affecting the gritty surface. See More

Formulated to meet the unique needs of metal point artists, GOLDEN Silverpoint / Drawing Ground offers a metal receptive ground, applicable to a range of drawing supports. Developed for easy application, the ground has a very fluid consistency that will level as it dries. A Single coat of Silverpoint / Drawing Ground provides a smooth, durable surface, ideal for mark making with a silverpoint stylus or other metal, such as brass, gold, copper, or even a steel paperclip. It is a low viscosity fluid that contains high levels of titanium dioxide and prepares surfaces to readily accept marks from a metal stylus.Key Features:* Size: 8oz Bottle* Formulated with 100% acrylic polymer emulsion* Designed for the achievement of fine, detailed lines * Permanent, lightfast* More flexible over time than traditional preparations* Silverpoint / Drawing Ground offers a metal receptive ground* Developed for easy application* Very fluid consistency that will level as it dries* Provides a smooth, durable surface* Allows greater fineness of line with diverse drawing media such as graphite, colored pencil, ink, and some markers The artist working in silverpoint today has an intimate connection to the work of such revered artists as da Vinci and Rembrandt, as well as more recently, Picasso and Joseph Stella. As tiny particles of metal are left behind on a slightly abrasive ground, metal point drawing offers the ability to achieve lasting, exquisitely detailed lines that won't smudge. If different types of metal are used within a piece, over time oxidation of the different metals will impart subtle shifts in the tonality of the lines. As the time honored art form of metal point drawing experiences a resurgence, Golden Artist Colors responds to the requests of practicing artists by introducing Silverpoint/Drawing Ground. Designed for the achievement of fine, detailed lines, Silverpoint/Drawing Ground is permanent, lightfast and more flexible over time than traditional preparations. While many artists enjoy the fineness of line and delicate qualities achieved with a metal stylus on Silverpoint/Drawing Ground, the scope of this product should not be limited to a singular use. When used as a general drawing ground, other media may be intermixed with metal point drawing or used alone to create new effects. It is possible to adjust the absorbent qualities of substrates with Silverpoint/Drawing Ground. By putting a very thin layer of the ground over the entire surface, the substrate's absorbency is decreased. This allows greater fineness of line with Perse drawing media such as graphite, colored pencil, ink, and some markers. In addition, small amounts of other GOLDEN Fluid Acrylic colors can be added to this ground for tinting purposes without a significant drop in performance. GOLDEN SILVERPOINT/DRAWING GROUND APPLICATIONS GOLDEN Silverpoint / Drawing Ground is designed for thin applications only. When applied too thickly the film may crack upon curing. A single thin coat is typically sufficient. Silverpoint / Drawing Ground can generally be tinted with a maximum of 15% GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics without negatively affecting its performance It can be brush or spray applied to paper, primed canvas, wood or any surface that will accept a water-based coating. The most common substrate for metal point drawing is heavy weight hot pressed watercolor paper. Note: Because lower weight papers are susceptible to buckling from the moisture in the Silverpoint / Drawing Ground, some artists may find taping the edges down will help prevent extensive warping. Artist Testimonial and Review Great Medium--Just Apply It Quickly! "This medium sets up very quickly, and can be colored with acrylic paint if desired. Ensure that a less absorbent paper or surface is used, as you will have more time to apply it before it dries (you will also use less of it). Great product-I will definitely purchase this again." GAC (short for Golden Artist Colors) Specialty Acrylic Polymers are based on 100% acrylic polymer emulsions. GAC mediums can be used to extend acrylic colors, to regulate transparency, create glazes, increase gloss, reduce viscosity or improve adhesion and film integrity. The GAC polymers can also be used for binding pigment solids for various effects and surfaces. Unlike the other GOLDEN Mediums and Gels, GOLDEN GAC Acrylic Polymers have only a minimum amount of thickeners, levelers, defoamers and surfactants to ensure good film formation. The consistency of the GAC polymer medium is very fluid, and thinner than other GOLDEN Mediums. Since they do not have thickeners added, these polymers will reduce the thickness of most GOLDEN Acrylic Paints. Fluid Acrylics are slightly thicker than the GACs, but will be the color line least changed in viscosity with any addition of a GAC polymer. Each GAC medium represents a unique polymer that offers certain specific attributes. Therefore, each GAC medium will have its own unique benefits and applications. * GAC 100 Primer Extender Acrylic Polymer Medium: Universal acrylic polymer. Is a thin, translucent, gloss medium. Useful for thinning or extending colors as well as increasing flexibility. Wets out solids more readily than other polymers and is useful for creating homemade paints. GAC 100 provides basic protection from Support Induced Discoloration (SID) * GAC 200 Hard Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium: Promotes adhesion and film hardness. Hard acrylic extender for non-porous surfaces is the hardest and least flexible polymer we offer. It is Ideal for mixing with acrylic colors to increase film hardness, reduce dry film tack and to increase adhesion to many non-porous surfaces. Dries to a clear, high gloss, finish. GAC 200 is not recommended for flexible supports. * GAC 400 Low Crazing Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium: Stiffens textile fibers. Stiffens natural fibers and fabrics and is useful for stiffening unprimed canvas or sculpting and shaping fabric. Fibers saturated with GAC 400 will dry to a hard, stiff film. * GAC 500 Self-Leveling Acrylic Polymer Medium: Extends fluid acrylics. Gloss extender for Fluid Acrylic Colors is a unique balance of film hardness and flexibility offering increased leveling, increased mar resistance and decreased dry film tack. GAC 500 is particularly useful for extending Fluid Acrylic Colors with minimal property change. It can be mixed with Airbrush Transparent Extender for a fast-drying, sprayable isolation coat. * GAC 800 Low Crazing Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium (Pouring Medium): Reduces crazing. GAC 800 is a medium specifically produced to modify paints for pouring, such as when pouring a puddle onto a paint surface Is a low-crazing extender for pouring acrylic colors. "Crazing" is the formation crevices in surfaces that develop as acrylic paints and mediums dry. The addition of GAC 800 promotes drying with a smooth, even film, good gloss and flexibility, but with moderate clarity. GAC 800 is also useful for adhesion to chalky surfaces. * GAC 900 Fabric Medium: Fabric painting medium. Heat set fabric painting medium, offers a very soft hand and laundering stability. Mix with High Flow Acrylics to produce "tie-dye" effects, or blend with GOLDEN Heavy Body, Matte or Fluid Acrylics for brush or screen application.* See More
