Gamblin Ground is formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide, and calcium carbonate – titanium dioxide gives opacity, while calcium carbonate gives tooth for strong adhesion. Gamblin Ground makes a brighter and less-absorbent ground layer compared to acrylic “gesso” – meaning that oil paint layers on top will better retain their color saturation. In addition, the lower absorbency allows for “reductive” underpainting techniques when painters need to wipe back to the white of the Ground. Key Features:* See video - Ground Application* Makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings* Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide, and calcium carbonate* Brighter and less-absorbent ground layer * Oil paint layers on top will better retain their color saturation* Lower absorbency * Thicker than acrylic gesso* Can be applied on top of acrylic gesso Because the percentage of pigments is so much higher than in acrylic “gesso”, painters need only apply TWO coats of Gamblin Ground instead of the recommended four coats of acrylic. Fabric supports should be sized with PVA Size before applying Gamblin Ground. Also, Gamblin Ground can be applied on top of acrylic gesso for a brighter white, less-absorbent ground layer. Gamblin Ground is thicker than acrylic gesso, and requires different application techniques See More

This allows for excellent brush strokes as well as being ideal for glazing. The Charvin oil collection is mixed using a blend of linseed and non-yellowing poppy oils, giving them smooth, even handling, perfect for artists like me who like to build up an image in layers. They are also fine enough to create sharp detail without sacrificing any pigmentation. As an artist who prefers to work in a non-toxic studio, this palette has been carefully chosen to include only colors free of any dangerous heavy metals or hazardous materials.” These specially curated sets are hand-picked by Annie Stegg for your painting pleasure to help you get the colors and supplies you need that go along with the photos and paintings seen on this page.About Artist Annie Stegg Gerard Annie Stegg Gerard has a special love for the 18th century Rococo painters who have had a large influence on her own method. She finds inspiration in their imagination, and the dreamlike palette and lively brushwork that combine to create a wonderful atmosphere of enchantment. She believes that they sought to transport us to different worlds and fantastic places though their works. In her own work, known for it's beautiful, enigmatic figures and lively creatures, Annie strives to depict this same transportive effect to the viewer. Her work is an exploration of the small hidden worlds that exist in our own backyards and the drama that unfolds with their unseen inhabitants. The secrets that are waiting to be discovered, and the mystery in a hidden moment of time. Annie exhibits her work in galleries and has done notable publishing work for clients such as Disney, Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast, Easton press, Ballistic Publishing and more. Her work is found in private collections all over the world. Remains flexible - won't yellow, shrink or swell. PVA Size is made from PVA that has a neutral pH and does not yellow. Retains its flexibility and does not emit harmful volatiles. Key Features:* Sizes: Sizes: 8.5 Oz, 33.8 Oz* Use neutral pH PVA size on linen and canvas instead of rabbit skin glue* Does not swell and shrink like rabbit skin glue does* Seals the fabric but does not re-absorb atmospheric moisture* Neutral pH and does not yellow* Retains its flexibility* Does not emit harmful volatiles Diluted with distilled water, PVA size (Poly Vinyl Acetate) is a contemporary size for fabric support. Conservation scientists recommend painters use neutral pH PVA size on linen and canvas instead of rabbit skin glue. Gamblin PVA provides a good size layer that seals the fabric but does not re-absorb atmospheric moisture, swell and shrink like rabbit skin glue does. There are hundreds of different formulae of PVA. We acknowledge and appreciate the research of the Canadian Conservation Institute that helps painters and conservators identify the best PVA to use. PVA Size is made from PVA that has a neutral pH and does not yellow. It also retains its flexibility and does not emit harmful volatiles. See More
