Painter's Color Diary® Review "Over the decades, I have continued to make tests of a diverse and ever-growing collection of oil paints, taking note of how they respond to the addition of white paint to analyze tinting strength or adding a glaze medium to note how the pigments react transparently. Sometimes I will test one color, such as Raw Sienna, from different paint manufacturers to determine which version will be best for my needs. Before using The Painter's Color Diary®, I did these tests on my painting or palette and wiped them away. With this wonderful tool, I now keep a record and note each color and company. For me, The Painter's Color Diary® is the perfect color tool for artists working in oils. Printed on high-quality canvas paper and protected by vellum sleeves, this pad allows for the testing and recording of colors with no bleed-through. I highly recommend the Painter's Color Diary®, not only for students but for professional artists. My color struggle now will be to decide whether to keep the pages in the book or post them on the studio wall!" John Wellington - Painter and teacher See More

Winsor & Newton Oil Painting Primer, 1 Liter CanSave Up to43%Off listWhite Ready-to-use primer in a non-yellowing oil-modified alkyd resin medium Winsor & Newton Oil Painting Primer is a ready-to-use primer in a non-yellowing oil-modified alkyd resin medium. No thinning or stirring is required. Oil Painting Primer can be applied directly to metal or porous surfaces (glue-sized canvas, untreated wood, hardwood, plywood, paper) with virtually no sinking in. A small amount of oil colour can be mixed into the Oil Painting Primer for tinted priming. The treated ground then accepts oil colours easily and without chalkiness or absorbency.Key Features:* Size: 500ml & 1000ml cans* Ready-to-use primer * Non-yellowing oil-modified alkyd resin medium* Can be applied directly to metal or porous surfaces (glue-sized canvas, untreated wood, hardwood, plywood, paper)* Used to prepare a surface before painting* A small amount of oil colour can be mixed into the Oil Painting Primer for tinted priming Oil painting primer imparts a traditional oil base. Some artists prefer this and may find a slight increase in gloss and smoothness. Oil primed canvases may slacken off less than acrylic primed canvases. A coat of warm glue size is required first. As a result of their formulation, Winsor & Newton acrylic primers are also suitable for oil painting. They are popular because they dry quickly and do not require any sizing underneath. See More

Gamblin PVA Sizing 33.8oz, Artists' Oil Painting MediumSave Up to40%Off listWhite PVA Size - Poly Vinyl Acetate- Contemporary size for fabric support Gamblin PVA Size- Use as a barrier size between linen or cotton canvas instead of rabbit skin glue. Remains flexible - won't yellow, shrink or swell. PVA Size is made from PVA that has a neutral pH and does not yellow. Retains its flexibility and does not emit harmful volatiles. Key Features:* Sizes: Sizes: 8.5 Oz, 33.8 Oz* Use neutral pH PVA size on linen and canvas instead of rabbit skin glue* Does not swell and shrink like rabbit skin glue does* Seals the fabric but does not re-absorb atmospheric moisture* Neutral pH and does not yellow* Retains its flexibility* Does not emit harmful volatiles Diluted with distilled water, PVA size (Poly Vinyl Acetate) is a contemporary size for fabric support. Conservation scientists recommend painters use neutral pH PVA size on linen and canvas instead of rabbit skin glue. Gamblin PVA provides a good size layer that seals the fabric but does not re-absorb atmospheric moisture, swell and shrink like rabbit skin glue does. There are hundreds of different formulae of PVA. We acknowledge and appreciate the research of the Canadian Conservation Institute that helps painters and conservators identify the best PVA to use. PVA Size is made from PVA that has a neutral pH and does not yellow. It also retains its flexibility and does not emit harmful volatiles. See More

Gamblin Oil Painting Ground 32oz CanSave Up to40%Off listWhite Makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings Gamblin Oil Painting Ground makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings. Gamblin Ground is formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide, and calcium carbonate – titanium dioxide gives opacity, while calcium carbonate gives tooth for strong adhesion. Gamblin Ground makes a brighter and less-absorbent ground layer compared to acrylic “gesso” – meaning that oil paint layers on top will better retain their color saturation. In addition, the lower absorbency allows for “reductive” underpainting techniques when painters need to wipe back to the white of the Ground. Key Features:* See video - Ground Application* Makes a strong, bright, non-absorbent foundation for oil paintings* Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide, and calcium carbonate* Brighter and less-absorbent ground layer * Oil paint layers on top will better retain their color saturation* Lower absorbency * Thicker than acrylic gesso* Can be applied on top of acrylic gesso Because the percentage of pigments is so much higher than in acrylic “gesso”, painters need only apply TWO coats of Gamblin Ground instead of the recommended four coats of acrylic. Fabric supports should be sized with PVA Size before applying Gamblin Ground. Also, Gamblin Ground can be applied on top of acrylic gesso for a brighter white, less-absorbent ground layer. Gamblin Ground is thicker than acrylic gesso, and requires different application techniques See More
