When thinning more than 25%, create an equal mix of water and matte medium. * Sand slick surfaces first. Apply a thin coat with a flat brush and let dry for 24 hours before painting. * To create a smoother base, sand the dried gesso and reapply. * Acrylic painters should apply at least two coats. * Oil painters should apply 2-4 coats and sand between applications. * To create a colored background, gradually add acrylic paint to the gesso until you reach your desired tone. Claessens Linen Rolls provide artists with optimal professional quality in painting surfaces and craftsmanship. Each specific primed linen type passed through its own set of manufacturing steps and quality control, resulting in the premium painting surfaces Claessens is renowned for. After receiving the raw linens, quality control carefully inspects the entire surface for weaving faults. Abnormally thick threads are scrupulously removed. Next, two layers of synthetic adhesive are applied. Each layer is dried on the canvas in a warm-air oven. For oil primed canvases, zinc white is used as the first coat, bound with linseed oil; carefully applied to the glued linen with trowel-like knives. Then the canvas is sanded and a layer with a titanium white base is applied in the same fashion, then placed in a drying room for 3 days to air dry naturally.
