GOLDEN Gloss Medium is a general-purpose liquid medium useful for creating glazes, extending colors, enhancing translucency, and increasing film integrity. The medium has a unique oil-like feel and resinous nature that promotes flow and leveling. GOLDEN Gloss Medium is also the best product for blocking Support Induced Discoloration, also known a SID, which is when contaminants are drawn into paints and mediums as they dry. You can protect your canvas or board from this phenomenon by applying GOLDEN Gloss Medium before starting an acrylic painting. SID contamination often goes undetected. In most cases, paints contain a strong enough color to conceal the yellowing. However, in a transparent glaze and especially in thick gel layers, SID becomes obvious. Gloss Medium medium works best when two or more coats are applied directly onto the support. Once dry, the canvas can then be primed and finally painted with less potential for discoloration. You can treat pre-primed canvases with Gloss Medium as well. Apply two coats to the surface, and follow with at least one layer of gesso to regain tooth. Key Features: * General-purpose liquid polymer * Oil-like and resinous viscosity * Promotes flow and leveling * Perfect For: * Creating thin, fast-drying glazes * Extending colors, enhancing gloss, and increasing film integrity * Blocking Support Induced Discoloration (SID) See More -

GOLDEN Acrylic Varnishes are professional, archival, and most contain ultraviolet light filters and stabilizers (UVLS) to provide archival protection to inhibit light damage. Available in spray or brush-on varnishes. Sheen options are available in gloss, satin, and matte final protective finishes to seal the painting. Be sure to read descriptions of each varnish to find the perfect fit for your artwork's optimum protection! Key Features: * Protects against dirt and dust * Provides moisture resistance * Gloss, Satin, and Matte finishes * Ultraviolet Light Stabilizers (UVLS) Perfect For: * Protects against UV light * Final varnishing and protective layer * Providing dust resistance * Archival Fine-Art Protection GOLDEN Waterborne Varnish - is a water-based acrylic polymer that protects interior acrylic paintings from dust and ultraviolet light. The varnish contains Ultra Violet Light Stabilizers [UVLS] that protect your art from light exposure. Waterborne Varnish can be thinned and cleaned up with water, eliminating the need for harsh solvents, and you can remove it from a painting with household ammonia. GOLDEN Isolation Coat - is a ready-to-use sealing coat for acrylic paintings. Previously acrylic artists’ only recourse was to dilute Soft Gel Gloss with water (our former and still acceptable recommendation) before applying it to completed acrylic artwork. Isolation Coat eliminates the need to measure and mix while increasing flow and leveling. Isolation coat is a permanent acrylic medium that seals surface absorbency and allows for improved varnish application and easier varnish removal. Apply one or more layers before varnishing. What does golden isolation coat do? Isolation coat serves two purposes: Seals any absorbent areas in order to create an even surface on which to apply the varnish. Protects the painting if/or when the varnish is removed by separating the pigmented area of the painting from the solvents used in removal. GOLDEN Polymer Varnish with UVLS (Ultraviolet Light Stabilizers) - available in Matte, Satin, and Gloss finishes. A waterborne acrylic varnish that dries to a protective flexible and dust resistant surface over acrylic paint. Removable with ammonia. Health Labeled (HL) product, please read and follow instructions and guidelines. Not for use by children. Recommended for interior use only. See More -

GAC (short for Golden Artist Colors) Specialty Acrylic Polymers are based on 100% acrylic polymer emulsions. GAC mediums can be used to extend acrylic colors, to regulate transparency, create glazes, increase gloss, reduce viscosity or improve adhesion and film integrity. The GAC polymers can also be used for binding pigment solids for various effects and surfaces. Unlike the other GOLDEN Mediums and Gels, GOLDEN GAC Acrylic Polymers have only a minimum amount of thickeners, levelers, defoamers and surfactants to ensure good film formation. The consistency of the GAC polymer medium is very fluid, and thinner than other GOLDEN Mediums. Since they do not have thickeners added, these polymers will reduce the thickness of most GOLDEN Acrylic Paints. Fluid Acrylics are slightly thicker than the GACs, but will be the color line least changed in viscosity with any addition of a GAC polymer. Each GAC medium represents a unique polymer that offers certain specific attributes. Therefore, each GAC medium will have its own unique benefits and applications. * GAC 100 Primer Extender Acrylic Polymer Medium: Universal acrylic polymer. Is a thin, translucent, gloss medium. Useful for thinning or extending colors as well as increasing flexibility. Wets out solids more readily than other polymers and is useful for creating homemade paints. GAC 100 provides basic protection from Support Induced Discoloration (SID) * GAC 200 Hard Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium: Promotes adhesion and film hardness. Hard acrylic extender for non-porous surfaces is the hardest and least flexible polymer we offer. It is Ideal for mixing with acrylic colors to increase film hardness, reduce dry film tack and to increase adhesion to many non-porous surfaces. Dries to a clear, high gloss, finish. GAC 200 is not recommended for flexible supports. * GAC 400 Low Crazing Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium: Stiffens textile fibers. Stiffens natural fibers and fabrics and is useful for stiffening unprimed canvas or sculpting and shaping fabric. Fibers saturated with GAC 400 will dry to a hard, stiff film. * GAC 500 Self-Leveling Acrylic Polymer Medium: Extends fluid acrylics. Gloss extender for Fluid Acrylic Colors is a unique balance of film hardness and flexibility offering increased leveling, increased mar resistance and decreased dry film tack. GAC 500 is particularly useful for extending Fluid Acrylic Colors with minimal property change. It can be mixed with Airbrush Transparent Extender for a fast-drying, sprayable isolation coat. * GAC 800 Low Crazing Acrylic Extender Polymer Medium (Pouring Medium): Reduces crazing. GAC 800 is a medium specifically produced to modify paints for pouring, such as when pouring a puddle onto a paint surface Is a low-crazing extender for pouring acrylic colors. "Crazing" is the formation crevices in surfaces that develop as acrylic paints and mediums dry. The addition of GAC 800 promotes drying with a smooth, even film, good gloss and flexibility, but with moderate clarity. GAC 800 is also useful for adhesion to chalky surfaces. * GAC 900 Fabric Medium: Fabric painting medium. Heat set fabric painting medium, offers a very soft hand and laundering stability. Mix with High Flow Acrylics to produce "tie-dye" effects, or blend with GOLDEN Heavy Body, Matte or Fluid Acrylics for brush or screen application.* See More -

Polypaste can be used to bond polymer clay and finished Liquid Polyclay elements in any combination. Polypaste is exceptionally malleable; this makes it great for creating textured surfaces and embossing. After curing, adhesion is permanent. Polypaste can also be used as a softening agent if your clay is hard to condition. Repel Gel: Repel Gel is a water-soluble, non-toxic medium that prevents Kato Polyclay from sticking to itself during the baking process. The water-soluble gel is easy to use and easy to clean-up. Use a paintbrush to apply a thin coat of Repel Gel to the areas of the Polyclay were you want to avoid adhesion during the curing process. Follow baking instructions and separate the clay where you applied the Repel Gel. You can rinse off any residue with cold water. See More -

Gamblin Burnt Plate Oil #000 8oz BottleSave Up to40%Off list
Starting At: 4.50
Brown True to historic working properties. Safer. More Permanent. Gamblin Oil Painting mediums offer a great deal more than simply extending oil colors. Mediums modify the working properties of oil color from the tube – from a fluid consistency for expressive mark making to a stiff paste for creating thick, crisp marks. Painting mediums also broaden the visual qualities of our colors – from increasing the transparency of paint layers, to creating a range of surface qualities, from high gloss to matte. Gamblin’s family of Galkyd painting mediums and Cold Wax Medium are formulated with Gamsol. We recommend only Gamsol for thinning these materials. Alkali Refined Linseed Oil - Processed from flax seeds. This linseed is the purest and lightest industrially produced variety. Cold Pressed Linseed Oil - Made from the first pressing of flax seeds without heat or chemicals of any kind. Cold Wax Medium - Made from natural white unbleached beeswax. Mix directly into colors. Cold Wax creates an ultra-thick, matte impasto. For greater shine and flexibility mix with Galkyd medium. "G-Gel" - Made from alkyd resin, Galkyd Gel is a colorless oil color additive that accelerates the drying rate of oil colors and enables artists to create thick transparent paintings with a moderate sheen. Galkyd Painting Medium - Alkyd based resin painting medium that thins oil paints and maintains a strong flexible paint film. Galkyd speeds the drying rate and is excellent for glazing providing an enamel like finish. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Painting Medium Lite No.2 - This low viscosity alkyd resin painting medium is a good replacement for traditional damar/ linseed oil/ turpentine combination mediums. Galkyd Lite dries within about 3 hours to a subdued gloss, and will maintain your brush strokes. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Galkyd Slow Drying Medium - Especially formulated to thin oil colors and give painters extended working time. To use mix equal portions of medium with oil colors to paint wet for at least a day. Since this product should not be diluted you may want to purchase the larger size. Gamsol - Quality solvent and medium and for general oil painting. Gamsol is also an excellent studio and brush cleaner. Odorless Mineral Spirits -Gamsol is the safest solvent that allows oil painters to utilize all traditional painting techniques without compromise. Primary Uses for Gamsol - Thinning oil colors, Modifying painting mediums, Studio clean up.Gamsol is a petroleum distillate but all the aromatic solvents have been refined out of it, less than .005% remains. Gamvar - Conservation quality varnish for oil, acrylic and alkyd paintings. This resin varnish may be removed with a mild solvent and contains a UV stabilizer. Developed in association with the National Gallery of Art. Package makes enough varnish to cover 80 sq ft. Once varnish is applied surface will have a uniform gloss apperance. Neo-Megilp - When mixed into oil colors Neo-Megilp makes them richer and deeper and finished paintings have a luminous glow! Neo-Megilp will not darken or crack over time. For thinning, Gamblin recommends using Gamsol or a small amount of Refined Linseed Oil. Oil Painting Ground - For strong, bright foundations of oil paintings. Requires only 2 coats. Formulated from alkyd resin, titanium dioxide and barium sulfate. Stiffer than traditional gesso. PVA Size - Use as a barrier size between linen or cotton canvas instead of rabbit skin glue. Remains flexible and won't yellow, shrink or swell. Poppy Oil - Poppy Oil's slow drying time may be useful for painters using "wet into wet" techniques. Adding 10% by volume poppy oil slows down the drying time of Gamblin Galkyd Painting Mediums. Rabbit Skin Glue - Gamblin's Rabbit Skin Glue is the traditional size for fabric support on panels. It seals porous fabric and isolates it from ground or oil paints. Stretching the canvas is easy, because the size shrinks as it dries. Safflower Oil- Gamblin's Safflower Oil is a pale, slow-drying oil. Safflower oil increases flow of oil colors and slows dry time. Use sparingly or mix with an equal amount of Gamsol to create a traditional slow-drying, low-viscosity painting medium. Solvent-Free Gel Medium - This unique, non-toxic blend of safflower oil and alkyd resin gives colors more flow and transparency, yet holds brushstrokes well. It has a moderately fast drying rate, increases gloss, and supports the broadest range of painting techniques with the least compromise across color, dry time, texture and mark-making. Contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Solvent-Free Fluid Medium- Gamblin's Solvent-Free Fluid Mediumgives oil colors more flow and transparency, It has a moderately fast drying rate that increases gloss. Made from safflower oil and alkyd resin, this medium is non-toxic and contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates. Stand Oil - Vacuum bodied heavy oil which can be used in painting and glazing mediums. Dries to an enamel like finish. Traditional Gesso - Gamblin's Traditional Gesso is a dry mixture of rabbit skin glue, gypsum, marble dust, and titanium dioxide. Paintings on gesso are more matte because of the high absorbency of traditional gesso. Wax Pastilles - Small beads of naturally white unbleached beeswax.* See More -

Golden Color Pouring Medium Matte opens the door to new creative possibilities, allowing artists to create pours with a velvety matte surface. Color Pouring Medium Gloss also known as GAC 800 is an excellent medium for creating glossy pours of acrylic colors. In addition to extending colors for pouring, this versatile medium is useful for improving adhesion to chalky surfaces like plaster or weathered paint. Tips for use: * Gently mix 10 parts Golden Color Pouring Medium Gloss or Matte with 1 part acrylic color, allow mixture to sit covered (ideally overnight) to eliminate air bubbles. * Pour close to the surface to reduce air bubbles. * Paintings may need to dry for a few days before moving. Do not pour thicker than 1/8” (3mm) or attempt to accelerate drying. Key Features: * Does not craze or crack * Designed to be poured in layers or puddles * 100% acrylic medium * High acrylic solids and reduced water content * Matte or glossy uniform surface * Use to adjust transparency or opacity Perfect For: * Acrylic paint * Dirty pour * Flip cup pour * Multiple color pour * Adhesion to chalky surfaces Color Pouring Medium may craze, but this is usually the result of too much paint being added and in turn, countering the acrylic solids level or the pour has been applied in too thick of a layer. This medium retains a slight cloudy quality making it a poor choice as a clear top coat or even transparent color layer. See More -

Painting with buttery oils requires a medium that helps alter paint consistency for color mixing, blending, and glazing. DANIEL SMITH Oil mediums improve transparency and gloss and, depending on the formula, can decrease drying time. DANIEL SMITH Oil Mediums allow artists to extend their oil paints and waste less paint; this is especially true with DANIEL SMITH Original Oils, which are highly pigmented. With DANIEL SMITH Oil Mediums, you can expand the value of your highly pigmented paint event farther! Key Features: * Accelerate or slow drying time * Improve transparency and gloss * Outstanding working properties * Extend oil paints and use less paint * Available in 3 different sizes Perfect For: * Traditional oil paints * Blending and glazing * Maintaining consistency * Preserving gloss * Speeding up drying time * Increasing the flow of oil paint Refined Linseed Oil- Its capacity to add gloss and transparency and yield a tough, strong paint film has made linseed oil the most conventional binder in oil paint for centuries. It may cause some yellowing with age. Cold-Pressed Linseed Oil- The simplest form of natural oil, cold-pressed linseed oil, is lighter in color and yellows less than hot pressed or solvent extracted oils. DANIEL SMITH Cold-pressed Linseed Oil also creates a stronger film. Stand Oil– Stand oil, thicker than Linseed oil, prompts oil colors to gradually self-level as they dry, leaving minimal brush strokes. Stand oil is an inappropriate vehicle for making oil paint, but it makes an outstanding painting and glazing medium when diluted with turpentine and damar varnish. It yields a tough paint film without the yellowing tendencies of refined linseed oil. Available in 8oz. See More -

Add to oil painting medium in drops as opposed to adding directly to oil paint. Cobalt Drier is a powerful additive for oil paints and should be used sparingly. Test medium before applying it to an oil painting. Overuse may cause cracking of paint film when drying. Copal Painting Medium: has a resinous consistency perfect for glazing and wet-on-wet techniques. Copal painting medium is an oil paint additive that speeds drying time. This medium increases paint flow and imparts a high gloss and hardness when dried. Copal painting medium may cause yellowing or darkening of colors over long periods. Only dilute with turpentine or Grumtine as petroleum-based solvents, and odorless thinners are not compatible with this product. Damar Varnish: A final varnish for oil painting that imparts a high gloss finish. Processed with pure gum damar, Damar Varnish protects oil paintings from dirt and scuffing. Japan Drier: A solid alkyd resin-based liquid drier for artists' oil colors. Japan Drier is used primarily for oil gilding. It is an alkali based drier that may cause yellowing or darkening of colors over time. Odorless Thinner: is a clear, organic solvent for thinning oil colors, cleaning brushes, and painting accessories. Oil Painting Medium No. 1: Use when a matte finish is desired, especially on absorbent gesso grounds. Made from poppy seed oil, copaiba, balsam, and solvent. Oil Painting Medium No. 2: For use with oils to retard drying time. It contains poppy seed oil, mastic resin, alkyd resin, and grumtine. Oil Painting Medium No. 3: Accelerates drying time. It contains copaiba, balsam, stand oil, mastic resin, alkyd resin, cobalt, and manganese driers. Pale Drying Oil: Accelerates drying time of oil colors. Consists of linseed oil and manganese drier. Poppy Seed Oil: An excellent quality, slow drying, purified oil that retards drying time. It provides superior color retention and resistance to yellowing. PreTested Linseed Oil: Linseed oil has several uses in oil painting. It can be used as a paint binder ingredient when mixing colors from powdered pigments, in oil painting medium recipes, and added directly to oil paints to make colors glossy and fluid. This oil is made from the finest quality purified alkali-refined linseed oil. Retouch Varnish: For brightening uneven areas of oil paintings. An excellent varnish for protecting pictures until the final varnishing. Stand Oil: A flexible, very heavy-bodied purified oil for use in preparing mediums—excellent resistance to yellowing. Sun-Thickened Linseed Oil: Sun-thickened linseed oil is heavier in body and can be appplied directly to paint or used in glaze mediums, clear varnishes and emulsions. It is an extremely flexible medium derived from purified oil and can be pre-diluted with turpentine, Grumtine or Pre-tested odorless thinner. The linseed oil lends an enamel-like quality to oil color. See More -

The difference is that additives don't contain acrylic binders (like mediums do), so you must follow the label and use them in correct proportions. Most mediums can be added to the paint in any amount until you've achieved the desired effect, but additives can weaken the color and adhesion of the paint when overused. GOLDEN offers these two additives, which are a useful addition to any painters studio. Wetting Agent: Formerly known as Acrylic Flow Release - an additive used to reduce the surface tension of the water in the acrylic emulsion, thereby increasing the slickness and flow of the paint. It is useful for achieving rich stains on a porous surface. Not for use by children. Retarder: an additive used to increase the open (drying) time of acrylic paints. Useful for wet on wet techniques and reducing skinning on the palette. Key Features: * Increase open time * Reduce the surface tension of acrylic emulsion * Improve the slickness and flow of paint * No acrylic binders * Use them in correct proportions * Click the yellow circle icon for product information Perfect For: * Acrylic painting * Minimizing paint waste * Classroom, home, and studio * Teachers and students * All acrylic-friendly surfaces The retarder does not contain binding agents. To ensure adhesion, the addition of Retarder should not exceed 15% (1:6)when mixed with colors or mediums. See More -

We recommend using a natural oil-based soap and warm water afterward to complete the brush cleaning, moisturize the brush hairs and help preserve them. Ventilation: All essential oils/solvents should be used appropriately and with ventilation. Skin contact: As with all essential oils, you should always avoid skin contact, especially if you have skin issues. Skin contact for some people will not cause any problems, but because of the high concentration please be aware and take precautions when using Spike Oil or any other solvents. Allergies: Spike Lavender, in rare cases, can be considered an allergen, as are many essential oils like Tea Tree Oil, etc. So all products containing Spike (the solvent, mediums, and varnishes) see warnings regarding safety and clear directions for usage. The main reason this solvent is considered “safer” is because there are no known carcinogens or a lot of the health issues associated with Turpentine or Petroleum Mineral Spirits. However, like with all solvents when used in oil painting, you should have ventilation and limit skin contact. See More
