You can use watercolors on any surface with Daniel Smith's Watercolor Ground! After applying the Ground you can paint with watercolors on wood, plaster, metal, plastic, glass, and fabric! Simply brush the Watercolor Ground on and within 24 hours the surface will be transformed into an exciting absorbent ground for watercolor! If you make a mistake, rescue your painting with Titanium White Watercolor Ground the “white out” for artists that allows you to cover up and start over with a fresh white surface. You can use one of the colored Grounds to create surface texture or use the Transparent Watercolor Ground which allows the surface of your substrate, for example, wood grain or decorative paper, to show through when you paint over with watercolors. DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground creates a soft, absorbent watercolor surface with a slightly cottony texture that’s similar to cold press paper. With this breakthrough archival-quality ground, artists can create new work on any surface, rescue flawed paintings, lift and scrub without damaging the painting surface, and frame without glass. There’s really no end to what can be done! Key Features:* Absorbent watercolor ground* Works on multiple surfaces* Archival and acid-free.* Holds up to vigorous scrubbing Perfect For:* Watercolor Artists* Mixed media applications* Framing without Glass The beauty of watercolor is transparency and transparency is what gives watercolor paintings their distinctive clarity, luminosity, and realism. Now, with DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground, artists can get this unique visual quality on any surface they choose: * Wood & Plaster* Canvas & Masonite* All types of paper* Fabric* Glass & Plexiglass* Metal* Plastic* Stone & Masonry Preparation Absorbent or semi-absorbent surfaces require no special prep before brushing on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground. These include paper, canvas and other fabrics, wood, plaster, shells, and hardboard. Non-absorbent surfaces such as metal, plastic or glass should be lightly abraded with sandpaper or steel wool before brushing on the Watercolor Ground. Application We recommend using Watercolor Ground straight from the container. It has a thick, brushable consistency. Use a soft-haired synthetic brush, foam brush or foam roller for a smoother finish, or a hog bristle brush for a more textured finish. The ground is highly pigmented so one coat will cover most surfaces; very absorbent surfaces such as unfinished softwood may require two coats, allowing the first coat to cure before adding the second. Wash brushes immediately after use. TIP – when using the Watercolor Ground to Rescue a Painting, thin some Watercolor Ground in a small dish with up to 10% of water and use a soft brush like a hake brush to blend the edges. Curing Let Watercolor Ground dry and cure for at least 24 hours. This allows it to attain the right degree of absorption. Painting DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground works beautifully with watercolors and thinned acrylics. Because it creates a surface more absorbent than paper, you will want to use less water with your paint. Experiment and see what works best for you. It also works beautifully with DANIEL SMITH Masking Fluid. Finishing As with all watercolors, your work on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground will need to be fixed if it will not be framed behind glass. We suggest spraying with a high quality, Archival Aerosol MSA Varnish with UVLS to protect your painting. DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Grounds give artists more freedom to paint with their watercolors; on any surface, rescue a watercolor painting and add more creative opportunities for painting with watercolors! Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylic Mediums - White Gesso Primer, 1 LiterSave Up to30%Off listWhite Push the performance of Galeria Acrylics further with Galeria Acrylic Mediums! Winsor & Newton’s Galeria Acrylic Mediums are designed to work with their Galeria line, allowing you to explore the full range of acrylic property possibilities, from thinned fluid media effects with Flow Improver to heavy, carvable paste that can be tinted and built up. Slow drying time with Retarder, thin and extend acrylic color, and even Varnish Galeria works for final shine and protection. Galeria Extender - A highly economical medium, Galeria Extender increases volume of paint and maintains opacity. Color will dry to a matte finish. A great product for those on a limited budget. Galeria Flow Improver - Additive that loosens the surface tension of water within the acrylic paint, increasing the flow and allowing the application of areas of flat color evenly without changing the color strength. Increased flow is ideal for masking application, flowing gestural watercolor-like techniques, and “staining" applications. Should be used only in the amount needed to achieve the desired effect. Galeria Fluid Retarder - and additive for extending the drying and working time of acrylic colors. Small amounts (a few drops) will allow for extended blending and manipulation. Fluid Retarder does not contain sufficient acrylic resin to act as an additional “binder" and should be used only in the amount needed to achieve the desired effect. Galeria Gloss Medium - high clarity and even flow, Gloss Medium boosts the brilliance and transparency of the color as well as improving adhesion and durability. Ideal for glazing or applying thick, highly transparent layers of brilliant color for depth and “stained-glass" effect. Galeria Gloss Varnish - A unique, removable gloss varnish of the protection of finished acrylic works. Can be mixed with Galeria Matte Varnish to vary the final varnish. Galeria Heavy Carvable Modeling Paste - Tough and fully carvable, it remains flexible on a variety of surfaces and is suitable for multiple layers. Formulated to have the least effect on color shift from wet to dry. May be overpainted. Acrylic color may be added directly into paste during application (note it will become lighter and ‘chalky’ and the resulting paste will have reduced body). Galeria Iridescent Medium - Developed to provide pearlescent effects when added to color. Most effective when used with transparent colors over dark under layers. Galeria Matte Medium - Creates a flat, even finish. Maintains brilliance of color while boosting transparency, adhesion and durability. Galeria Matte Varnish - a uniquely removable matte varnish which may be mixed with Galeria Gloss Varnish to vary the final finish. Galeria Satin Varnish - A uniquely removable satin varnish for the protection of finished acrylic paintings. Galeria Modeling Paste - a lighter weight, flexible modeling paste for use on canvas (to minimize sagging). Finely textured with a soft sculptural consistency. Suitable for building multiple layers. May be overpainted, color may be added directly to paste (will become lighter and more ‘chalky’, and give paste a reduced body). Matte finish. Galeria White Gesso Primer - made from high quality acrylic resin with a good level of pigment strength, can be used straight from the container and provides excellent tooth for adhesion. To reduce absorbency and boost film integrity of the film a minimum of two coats is required if working with oils. Key Features: * Retarder for Wet-in-Wet * Flow improver for fluid techniques * Mediums to improve flow * Economical Mediums Perfect For: * Students and budgeting artists * slowing drying with retarder * Thin and maintain paint integrity * Extending paint with mediums See More
