You can use watercolors on any surface with Daniel Smith's Watercolor Ground! After applying the Ground you can paint with watercolors on wood, plaster, metal, plastic, glass, and fabric! Simply brush the Watercolor Ground on and within 24 hours the surface will be transformed into an exciting absorbent ground for watercolor! If you make a mistake, rescue your painting with Titanium White Watercolor Ground the “white out” for artists that allows you to cover up and start over with a fresh white surface. You can use one of the colored Grounds to create surface texture or use the Transparent Watercolor Ground which allows the surface of your substrate, for example, wood grain or decorative paper, to show through when you paint over with watercolors. DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground creates a soft, absorbent watercolor surface with a slightly cottony texture that’s similar to cold press paper. With this breakthrough archival-quality ground, artists can create new work on any surface, rescue flawed paintings, lift and scrub without damaging the painting surface, and frame without glass. There’s really no end to what can be done! Key Features:* Absorbent watercolor ground* Works on multiple surfaces* Archival and acid-free.* Holds up to vigorous scrubbing Perfect For:* Watercolor Artists* Mixed media applications* Framing without Glass The beauty of watercolor is transparency and transparency is what gives watercolor paintings their distinctive clarity, luminosity, and realism. Now, with DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground, artists can get this unique visual quality on any surface they choose: * Wood & Plaster* Canvas & Masonite* All types of paper* Fabric* Glass & Plexiglass* Metal* Plastic* Stone & Masonry Preparation Absorbent or semi-absorbent surfaces require no special prep before brushing on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground. These include paper, canvas and other fabrics, wood, plaster, shells, and hardboard. Non-absorbent surfaces such as metal, plastic or glass should be lightly abraded with sandpaper or steel wool before brushing on the Watercolor Ground. Application We recommend using Watercolor Ground straight from the container. It has a thick, brushable consistency. Use a soft-haired synthetic brush, foam brush or foam roller for a smoother finish, or a hog bristle brush for a more textured finish. The ground is highly pigmented so one coat will cover most surfaces; very absorbent surfaces such as unfinished softwood may require two coats, allowing the first coat to cure before adding the second. Wash brushes immediately after use. TIP – when using the Watercolor Ground to Rescue a Painting, thin some Watercolor Ground in a small dish with up to 10% of water and use a soft brush like a hake brush to blend the edges. Curing Let Watercolor Ground dry and cure for at least 24 hours. This allows it to attain the right degree of absorption. Painting DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground works beautifully with watercolors and thinned acrylics. Because it creates a surface more absorbent than paper, you will want to use less water with your paint. Experiment and see what works best for you. It also works beautifully with DANIEL SMITH Masking Fluid. Finishing As with all watercolors, your work on DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Ground will need to be fixed if it will not be framed behind glass. We suggest spraying with a high quality, Archival Aerosol MSA Varnish with UVLS to protect your painting. DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Grounds give artists more freedom to paint with their watercolors; on any surface, rescue a watercolor painting and add more creative opportunities for painting with watercolors! It creates a toothy surface similar to papers used with pastel and chalk. For an even rougher texture, Fine or Coarse Pumice Gel can be added. GOLDEN Pastel Ground for Pastel can also be tinted with acrylic colors for colored grounds. (Golden acrylics). GOLDEN Pastel Ground is a 100% acrylic medium designed to prepare surfaces for the application of pastels, charcoal and other art media where a coarse tooth is desired. It contains finely ground sand (silica) in a pure acrylic emulsion. Pastel Ground can be applied to paper, canvas, wood or any primed support. This allows almost limitless applications for media typically confined to standard papers. Key Features:* Sizes: 8oz, 32oz & 1 Gallon* Creates toothy surface similar to papers* Acrylic preparation for pastels* Fine or Coarse Pumice Gel can be added* Can also be tinted with acrylic colors Pastel Ground can be used as a toothy, gritty ground for many different media, including: Dry Media:* Soft Pastels* Graphite Pencils* Colored Chalks* Charcoal* Powdered Charcoal Water-based Media: * Water-Soluble Pastels* Colored Pencils* Pastel Pencils* Wax Crayons* Watercolor Pencils* Acrylic Paints Oil-based Media: * Oil Pastels* Oil Sticks* Paint Sticks* Ink Sticks* Pigment Sticks* Oil Paints GOLDEN Pastel Ground Application Thinning Due to the weight of the solids in Ground for Pastels, it is produced very thick, and does not come ready to brush-apply. Thin 20-40% with water to desired consistency. Application Apply with brush, paint-roller, spray equipment, squeegee or palette knife. Mix up only as much as is needed for one day"s work, as the solids will settle rapidly and be extremely difficult to mix back into suspension. Surface Preparation Non-absorbent surfaces should be abraded for increased adhesion. Prime with GOLDEN Gesso or other suitable primers (depending on substrate). Apply one or more coats of GOLDEN Pastel Ground to achieve the desired tooth. On paper, use heavier weight stock to avoid buckling. Allow ground to fully dry before applying media. Color Additions Pastel Ground can be blended with GOLDEN Acrylic Paints to achieve colored grounds. However, add minimal amounts of color since all additions of paint to Ground will decrease the tooth. GOLDEN High Flow Acrylics and Fluid Acrylics blend easily into the ground without thickening the product. High Load Acrylics have the highest pigment load and therefore provide the most color in the least amount of paint. Unless transparency is desired, select paints that are inherently opaque, such as the Pyrroles or earth colors. This will allow lower additions as well. Airbrushing thin layers of color after the ground has dried will give the strongest saturation of color to the ground without affecting the gritty surface. See More

GOLDEN Silverpoint / Drawing GroundSave Up to30%Off list…GOLDEN Silverpoint / Drawing Ground offers a metal receptive ground, applicable to a range of drawing supports. Developed for easy application, the ground has a very fluid consistency that will level as it dries. A Single coat of Silverpoint / Drawing Ground provides a smooth, durable surface,… Allows greater fineness of line with diverse drawing media Silverpoint, or metal point, drawing as an art form has changed little over the centuries of its distinguished history. Formulated to meet the unique needs of metal point artists, GOLDEN Silverpoint / Drawing Ground offers a metal receptive ground, applicable to a range of drawing supports. Developed for easy application, the ground has a very fluid consistency that will level as it dries. A Single coat of Silverpoint / Drawing Ground provides a smooth, durable surface, ideal for mark making with a silverpoint stylus or other metal, such as brass, gold, copper, or even a steel paperclip. It is a low viscosity fluid that contains high levels of titanium dioxide and prepares surfaces to readily accept marks from a metal stylus.Key Features:* Size: 8oz Bottle* Formulated with 100% acrylic polymer emulsion* Designed for the achievement of fine, detailed lines * Permanent, lightfast* More flexible over time than traditional preparations* Silverpoint / Drawing Ground offers a metal receptive ground* Developed for easy application* Very fluid consistency that will level as it dries* Provides a smooth, durable surface* Allows greater fineness of line with diverse drawing media such as graphite, colored pencil, ink, and some markers The artist working in silverpoint today has an intimate connection to the work of such revered artists as da Vinci and Rembrandt, as well as more recently, Picasso and Joseph Stella. As tiny particles of metal are left behind on a slightly abrasive ground, metal point drawing offers the ability to achieve lasting, exquisitely detailed lines that won't smudge. If different types of metal are used within a piece, over time oxidation of the different metals will impart subtle shifts in the tonality of the lines. As the time honored art form of metal point drawing experiences a resurgence, Golden Artist Colors responds to the requests of practicing artists by introducing Silverpoint/Drawing Ground. Designed for the achievement of fine, detailed lines, Silverpoint/Drawing Ground is permanent, lightfast and more flexible over time than traditional preparations. While many artists enjoy the fineness of line and delicate qualities achieved with a metal stylus on Silverpoint/Drawing Ground, the scope of this product should not be limited to a singular use. When used as a general drawing ground, other media may be intermixed with metal point drawing or used alone to create new effects. It is possible to adjust the absorbent qualities of substrates with Silverpoint/Drawing Ground. By putting a very thin layer of the ground over the entire surface, the substrate's absorbency is decreased. This allows greater fineness of line with Perse drawing media such as graphite, colored pencil, ink, and some markers. In addition, small amounts of other GOLDEN Fluid Acrylic colors can be added to this ground for tinting purposes without a significant drop in performance. GOLDEN SILVERPOINT/DRAWING GROUND APPLICATIONS GOLDEN Silverpoint / Drawing Ground is designed for thin applications only. When applied too thickly the film may crack upon curing. A single thin coat is typically sufficient. Silverpoint / Drawing Ground can generally be tinted with a maximum of 15% GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics without negatively affecting its performance It can be brush or spray applied to paper, primed canvas, wood or any surface that will accept a water-based coating. The most common substrate for metal point drawing is heavy weight hot pressed watercolor paper. Note: Because lower weight papers are susceptible to buckling from the moisture in the Silverpoint / Drawing Ground, some artists may find taping the edges down will help prevent extensive warping. Artist Testimonial and Review Great Medium--Just Apply It Quickly! "This medium sets up very quickly, and can be colored with acrylic paint if desired. Ensure that a less absorbent paper or surface is used, as you will have more time to apply it before it dries (you will also use less of it). Great product-I will definitely purchase this again."
