All Hamburg Brushes are guaranteed to meet or exceed your expectations! Until recent protection bans were enacted, Mongoose hair brushes were a long-time favorite workhorse brush of the oil painter. Mongoose was thirsty and supple enough to absorb and lay down large quantities of glaze but had the durable strength to manage heavy-bodied paints with ease and mastery, with a hair texture evenly between hog and sable. We enlisted the help of a world-class German brush maker after the ban was enacted to develop a brush with the superb qualities of natural mongoose. It became a passion and a true labor of love to create the perfect brush, tirelessly testing multiple prototypes, tweaking and correcting each time. When testing the resulting line of brushes developed with a stable of well-known professional painters, all feedback was incredibly positive, and created an air of excitement among them! Most believed it not only matched but actually improved on natural Mongoose, providing better heft, absorbency, and shaping of the bristles. Our proprietary, carefully balanced blend of both multiple-diameter synthetic filaments and natural hair varieties produced more reliable pointing and cleaner brush edges than Mongoose had been able to provide, while being absorbent and durable. Brush bellies trap more thinned paint and glazes with this formulation, allowing for glazing while maintaining detailed precision. The balanced blend, just like Mongoose, provides the hair strength to paint with heavy-bodied paint for more impasto applications. Yet, unlike mongoose, cleans easier and more completely due in part to the synthetic filament content, easily coming back to shape for the next painting session. Hamburg Professional Synthetic Blend Brushes from Creative Mark are skillfully crafted by hand by a world-class German brush maker. Each brush is created with an 8-step process. First, hairs are carefully blended exactly by a skilled brush dresser, painstakingly pinching the shape into an exact bundle for the shape and size. The bundles are hand-tied, shaped, and measured. They are then placed into a nickel-plated brass ferrule and secured with polyurethane glue. After drying, the ferrule is glued to the handle and double crimped extra deep to permanently secure the brush. The handles of the Hamburg brushes are hardwood Birch and are sustainable control harvested from Bavarian and Baltic forests (FSC Certified). Fashioned to provide a perfectly balanced feel, each handle is primed and then passes through multiple applications of lacquer coating, giving the handle a smoothly polished, deep black color.
