With a robust weight and 4 professional coats of priming over a rabbit skin glue sizing, the roll features a rich, smooth surface of unequaled beauty. Made in Italy, the preparation of the canvas is all done by hand in traditional Old World Fashion, but with modern equipment for continuity. The 4 primed coats are applied to a rabbit skin glue sealer (applied to washed, dried, picked and pumiced linen). When dry, two coats of acrylic gesso are applied to give the canvas elasticity and prevent sagging of the surface. Finally, two coats of fine professional oil primer are applied, creating a most receptive surface for oil colors. Raphael Premium Archival Oil Primed Linen Panels, smooth, rich texture inherent in any professional portrait canvas. White Claessens Oil Primed Linen Rolls Feature Meticulous Craftsmanship for Techniques needing a smooth surface! Claessens Linen Rolls provide artists with optimal professional quality in painting surfaces and craftsmanship. Each specific primed linen type is passed through its own set of manufacturing steps and quality control, resulting in premium painting surfaces Claessens is renowned for. After receiving the raw linens, quality control carefully inspects the entire surface for weaving faults. Abnormally thick threads are scrupulously removed. Next, two layers of synthetic adhesive are applied. Each layer is dried on the canvas in a warm-air oven. For oil primed canvases, zinc white is used as the first coat, bound with linseed oil; carefully applied to the glued linen with trowel-like knives. Then the canvas is sanded and a layer with a titanium white base is applied in the same fashion, then placed in a drying room for 3 days to air dry naturally. Double primed canvases undergo the same process again, as do additional primings. After the final coating is applied, the canvas is moved back to the drying room for 10 days. The finished canvases are then again carefully inspected one last time before they are place on rolls and stocked in the warehouse. There, the rolls are put into boxes or tubes for shipping. These stringent, painstaking steps create a archival, exceptional linen canvas worthy of your finest masterpiece!
