Museum Series Hardbord is an ultra-smooth, non-absorbent uncoated panel. Prepare your own unique painting grounds and textures on Ampersand Museum Series Hardbord™, the ultra-stable, professional artist-grade hardboard support. The high-density fiber core is engineered for stability, eliminating the warping and bowing issues that can be noticed with other substrates. Moisture resistant and formaldehyde-free, Hardbord is the substrate used to manufacture all Ampersand Museum Series pre-coated panels. Panels also contain no harmful VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) that other hardboard panels and MDF boards at the hardware store contain.

All wood panels should be sealed with some sort of sealant and primed before painting. Perfectly suited to all acrylic gesso and oil primers, most any media can be used, depending on the primer used.  Perfect for traditional and water-soluble oils, acrylics and acrylic gouache, inks, oil and soft pastels, and most any drawing media. Hardbord can either be used to paint on directly after priming, or as a support on which to mount watercolor papers, photographs, fabrics and prints. 

The cradled panels are made with 13-ply birch plywood strips that are attached flush to the back edges of each panel. Stain, paint or wax the cradle edges and eliminate the cost of framing altogether!  Archival, eco-friendly and made in the USA!

1/8" Flat Panels - ideal for plein air and studio painting— slips easily into pochade boxes. Flat panels allow for standard framing.

1.5" Cradled Panels- for even more support; can be left frame-free for gallery presentation or used with deep floater frames.

2" Deep Cradle Panels - for maximum support and frameless presentation, all in one.
