If ever there were super tricky mediums that required some know-how to frame, pastels and charcoal would be it! These dry mediums dust, flake, and power everywhere and can be just a mess to create, let alone with how to frame them where pigmented dust won’t stick to the glass, the mat, and more inside the frame after it has been sealed and hung. Sam Buie, the Director of Retail Framing for Jerry’s, instructs us on how to create a trough to catch excess dust and keep the pastel work spaced far enough from the glass so it is beautifully presented, but maintains the integrity of the work archivally.
