About Artist Tawnee Corning
Currently working out of her studio in Northern Minnesota (about 20 miles from the headwaters of the Mississippi River), Tawnee Corning's artistic concentration center's on large-scale figurative oil paintings set in colorful, psychedelic, and sometimes obscure backgrounds. Psychedelic light shows, 60’s/70’s gig posters, music and fashion are a constant inspiration to her work. Inspiration also comes from philosophy books, nature and science documentaries, and images from NASA’s Hubble Telescope. At first glance, Tawnee’s paintings are vivid and playful with the use of color, but after studying the works, there is often a much heavier underlying story behind them.
Actively displaying her work since 2012, Tawnee has shown her paintings at numerous businesses and galleries, completed countless commissions, live-painted at several music festivals, and has been featured in local and regional magazines and newspapers.In 2014, she was awarded an Individual Artist’s Grant from the McKnight Foundation, and in 2018, an Individual Artist’s Grant from the Region 2 Arts Council.
