Fredrix Canvas and Accessories
Founded by E.H. Friedrichs in 1868, Fredrix has more than 140 years of canvas making experience. Although Fredrix develops and produces some machine-made canvas, Fredrix still produces its finest canvases by hand—picking cotton, pumicing, and priming in time-tested, old-fashioned methods. Fredrix attributes much of their success to the unique way they prime their canvases. With over 10 million square yards of canvas primed each year, we can take their word for it. But that is not the company’s only contribution to the world of canvas: E.H. Fredreichs developed the first tongue and groove design for stretcher bars in 1875. Much has changed in canvas manufacturing since the 1800’s, but the canvas Fredrix makes today is still of the same utmost quality.
