Germany's Finest Watercolors – over 145 years of experience and innovation!
In the year 1862, the year LUKAS was established, one of the first artists' watercolors made in Germany was developed according to the recipe of the company's founder Dr. Fr. Schoenfeld. Hence the name of the line: LUKAS Aquarell 1862 Watercolors. Carefully developed over time to include the most recent scientific research and artistic knowledge, this premium watercolor paint continues to satisfy the needs of demanding artists across the globe.
LUKAS Aquarell Studio Watercolors provide the same high quality as Aquarell 1862 paints, but at a fraction of the price! This series of color is formulated with high-quality substitutes replacing the more costly – and sometimes toxic – natural pigments.
No matter your skill level, we know you will love both of these watercolor series! Compare your favorite concentrated artists' watercolors and then try LUKAS... like Laurie Humble you'll be impressed!
"I find LUKAS watercolors to be highly pigmented which produces vibrant color. This paint has a smooth consistency, even among the granulating colors, making it easier to create even washes. LUKAS adds a special wetting agent to their paint which makes it possible to re-constitute dried paint using less water. This also allows the paint to lift more readily.
I love the primary Cyan, Magenta, and Lemon Yellow. These three colors mix beautifully, forming pure-looking secondary colors. LUKAS Cobalt Turquoise is one of my all-time favorite colors, it looks opaque but is wonderfully transparent. The large tube size and great price also make LUKAS an excellent value."
